Alex

It was more than that missed mark, go back and watch the replay to see how many times Otto made a choice to go to ground instead of keeping his feet.... Very soft in my books

However with that said his strong season form saves him from an absolute woeful performance

You know it was wet... Right? o_O

Porps back to sub and his stay at the last chance saloon is extended another week.

Why?

We know he can play as the sub, why not send him back to Westies, get some touch or at least some match fitness. Dmac to the sub (if he isn't injured) and bring in one of Hendo, Grigg, Riley, Callinan, Stiffy (in the backlines) or Matty J in depending on match ups with Sydney.

Look, I'm just thinking out loud here and there may be countless examples of this succeeding. But has any senior player ever succeeded after having a run of games in the reserves to combat poor form?

IMO senior players don't get dropped to the reserves. They get retired.

So Porps is going to continually float from Sub to the field until 1 of 2 things happen?

1. He hits some form and keeps his spot on the field.

or

2. He finally gets dropped and that is for him?

Twenty Four hours ago many posters couldn't find a spot for Crouch.

I think a saw a couple today:D. We can't bring him in however because he is pioneering the 10 week recovery program from a hammy twinge.

Did anyone notice that a player that has struggled for confidence for three years finally had a breakout game, so we dropped him.

Is Brodie Martin officially in front of Brad Crouch in the pecking order?

We lost today's game 14 months ago when we decided to pump games into Doughty, Callinan, Johncock, Porplyzia (even Symes and Tambling) and ignore Kerridge, Brown, Lyons, Lynch, Laird etc

Can anyone explain why we promoted Callinan from the rookie list this year and left Laird on the outer?

Out - Any chance of winning a flag in the next couple of years

In - One final, I really mean this is it, I am really serious this time, this is the last chance saloon for Porps

People think he isn't providing enough offensively. Look at the big picture. We are too slow and defensive with Rutten/Talia/Otten back there.

i reckon Otten is a chance to be a Bock type defender after the Truck gives it away.

he's a pretty big lad that seems to be playing against smaller/more agile players every week.

i think there's a 2 stage move to be made to our defence.

Now - Laird to be upgraded forever
2013 - Reilly to be "rested" and Otten give a go as the intercept defender.
2015 - Truck to retire (speculating) and Otten to take his place as a tall defender.

my theory is ultimately that Truck and Talia are great defenders against most teams that usually have 2 talls, so Truck shouldn't be pushed out prematurely.

but the trend of the game now seems to allow for key defenders to be smaller than their key forward opponents. IMO Otten could fill that spot.

Yep, and we're nearly at 2 as it is

We might run into the same problems next week as far as match ups for Talia/Rutten go.

No Sam Reid, no Roberts-Thompson, no Tippett. Even Tommy Walsh got injured this week.

Just Mumford and Pyke.

No decent match ups for them - Mitch Morton, Adam Goodes... no thanks.

C'mon Sando - this might be the week to give Truck a well-earned rest.

Do some people who post on this board understand that we are no longer a premiership thread?

As soon as we lost Tippett for nothing, we lost that mantel of being a top 4 side and had to rebuild. Even if we added a fit (and in form) Callihan, Stiffy and Porplizia doesn't change that.

We need to persevere with Kerridge, Lyons, Brown, Jenkins, smack, lynch, Crouch and Laird and they will have some really good games and some really bad games. It's about having some patience and continuing to persevere with them.

Then when they have played about 30 games we will start getting some consistent performances from them. Next year will be another up and down year with Grigg and one or two more younger players should come in and add a returning Tex Walker who will need 12 months to get back to his bast and gain that confidence in his knee.

2015 is the year where everything comes together, until then, it will be very inconsistent with how we perform.

I hope we win next week but I'm thinking the swans will win by 6 to 8 goals.

bolded part is WRONG! if you add Tippett to the Callinan, Stiffy and Porps we've seen this year it makes no difference. because those 3 (actually 4) have been of no use to us at all this year.

Add Tippett to Kerridge, Lyons, Brown etc etc and i dont think we change our place either.
This is because those guys you mentioned are doing just fine.

I can't put my finger on whats missing this season. (and it's not Tippett because he wasnt that effective last year in the games he played)

I think most are pretty happy with what Kerridge, Brown, Lyons, Laird, Lynch have provided this season and i dont think their output has been less than those they've replaced. yet we find ourselves in a much worse place, plaing no-where near as good as we once did.

is it effort?

in typing this, it's suddenly not lost on me though that maybe we got a much greater contribution from Callinan, Stiff, Hendo, Porps and DOgga than i have previsouly accepted.

or it could be that our A graders are playing at A-?

The last.

Thommo is down, Danger is down, Tex is out, Wright is down, - Jacobs is a shadow of himself, and that hurts more than the rest. Mackay is down, Vince is down, Porps should've been dropped a month ago, Stiffy has been dropped.

I think Otten is too big. He looks pedestrian at present, like he's running in sand.

Porps, Reilly out
Smack and Grigg in

I reckon that chance is buckleys

Not good enough defensively. He can provide the run & rebound not the stops

Well it's a change from every other comment about Otten in this board, which say he's good defensively but provides no offensive run...

In: McKernan, Crouch
Out: Mackay (injured), Martin (omitted)

Porps back to sub and his stay at the last chance saloon is extended another week.

I reckon now that he's in, Martin should stay in at least 1 more week. The conditions did not suit him today, and he's at a point in his career when the club needs to make a decision about whether he stays or goes. The extra game to prove himself, and the extra evidence with which to decide his future should be enough reasons to keep him in at least once more.

It does make selection difficult, as I would like to see both McKernan and Crouch back in next week.

Can't agree with you, I'm afraid. He wasn't in the original 22 selected and only came in when the weather forecast made McKernan's position untenable. Assuming a return to sane weather conditions next week then he should be straight back to the SANFL. He did nothing to warrant further selection and doesn't have the right to be regarded as an incumbent.

Catch 22 for you Martin out McKernan in :)
