Pathetic Vader. To think I used to respect you as one of the better posters on the board; you've lost the plot.

I'm confident I have a better understanding of those things than you, but we're here to discuss the footy, not have irrelevant and useless dick measuring competitions.
Maybe I should rephrase...

You and I (and the AFC coaches) have a very different definition of leadership from each other. Under your definition, VB has no hope of being regarded as a good leader. Under the definition that the club uses (and which I agree with), he's one of the best leaders in the entire competition - and the best leader at the club by a comfortable margin. I and the club believe that he's not our best player, he is, however, our best leader.

There is no hope of me convincing you to change your mind on this subject (and equally you have no chance of changing my mind either), so there's not a whole lot of point in continuing to debate it.

Look, I'm pretty down after our loss, but I think you're taking it a bit far, in the past 5 weeks we've won 3 and lost 2, and our 2 losses have been against 1st and 4th, and both losses by less than 2 goals. It's not the end of the world and I don't think we're going to achieve anything with wholesale changes.
If you're going to use the "our only losses were to 1st and 4th" then you also need to note that our wins were over teams currently ranked 14th, 16th & 18th.

Quite frankly, it's almost impossible to get a lead on where we really stand. We've lost every game we've played to teams ranked above us and we've beaten all those below us (except for the Showdown). We really haven't played any of the middle-of-the-road clubs yet, other than Carlton (who beat us).

Vader, that isn't true - I've got no doubt he's a good leader, but I believe we have better ones now.

One of the best in the competition is your opinion, so far, without any justification.

Do you expect him to be our Captain next year?

It's strange that you would agree with that given that in my recollection you've never been anything but critical of him as captain.

Wouldn't go quite that far. He wasn't my first choice, and I wasn't thrilled when he was appointed, but, at the time, he was probably the best option, especially given Craig's ideas and themes. I did always have concerns about his ability to be an on field leader, given, at the time, he was a good player, but not in our best half a dozen. From memory, Truck or Thommo were my preference - Truck would've probably been alright, but, in hindsight, Thommo, probably not.

As you say, when we went through the difficult times ending the Craigy era, he did a good job of keeping the team together, and transitioning to the new Coach.

But we're past those times, and we need more from our Captain. We've also got half a dozen quality young players who are developing well, and, if they continue to do so, should overtake him in the next 18 months.

He was the best option at the time, but we now have other options, who I believe are better ones.

Yes, I do. I wouldn't be overly surprised if Dangerfield or Sloane replaces him, but my gut feel is that VB will be Captain for at least 2-3 more years. I would be shocked if Thompson were named Captain.

Hahaha Shitsnake! thats the second funny thing ive read on the Crows board tonight, I should read this more often. What do you guys think the response to Tippett will be when he makes his debut against the Power? Do you think the Port crowd will unload on him? Will Crows fans go to the game just to chuck their 4 and 20 pie at the back of his head? It will be interesting regardless. The AFL should have made him available for this weeks game, it would have been grand stand viewing, surely someone would have jumped the fence?

I honestly believe if he was not suspended (if his suspension finished last week) he wouldn't have played this match....

I missed the freo game as it clashed with my league (won't be watching the replay either). Will be heading down to Adelaide for my first game live in about 4 years this week!

The Commissioner has never attended a losing crows game! (About 7/7)

Mckernan to come back in, only change.

Hey guys, can you do us a solid and send a choir to the airport to greet the team when they arrive?;)

Because of lack of match practice or he is scared that someone will jump the fence and stab him?

These are delusions of grandeur masquerading as opinion. You do not share the views of the AFC coaches, and you do not adhere to the definition the club uses, because you are not privy to any of this information. That you would go beyond the extent of your very simple, straightforward supporters' view - that you agree with van Berlo as captain - to having some sort of...proximity and shared knowledge with the club, you and upper management in the same spa together, it's like a frilled neck lizard trying to make himself look bigger.

Your opinion doesn't become more valid by falsifying commonalities between your views and those of the club. The only commonality is who is captain versus who you think should be captain. The rest is insecurity.

Love Thommos efforts over last few years and some times our only player getting the ball , but really he is unbelievable in the dumb things he does week in week out .
Like the dive into the pack for no reason to give away in the back call . Did at least 2- 3 again on Sat.
Danger is next captain just a matter of when but dont think it will be next year.

My gut feel is that Sloane will be Captain, not Dangerfield. Don't ask me why though. I think either would do a fantastic job.

Thommo has somehow escaped any real criticism compared to Jacobs, Reilly, Porps and now VB despite being poor all year. Shocking skill errors, constant frees against and can't seem to win a clearance to save himself. He still gets his 25 touches but has had little impact in a lot of games including Saturday. He's not even getting the hard tag now that Danger is copping it.

The frees against are becoming killers.

Thommo isn't even in the discussion.

But VB is clearly the best leader at our Club (indeed, one of the best in the AFL), yet you wouldn't be surprised if he was replaced?

Way to hedge your bets Vader.

If he's as good as you claim, why would there be any consideration towards replacing him?

Nothing would surprise me greatly. I may be misreading the tea leaves.

I don't expect VB to be replaced for at least 2-3 years, but I can't totally dismiss the possibility.

Hes a good Club Captain. Does everything right. Speaks well. Clean Cut.
He isn't a good leader on field that is. Doesn't win a lot of tough contests, kick big goals, and inspire team mates

Only one change I want to see this week:

When Sydney run out onto Footy Park, the big screen people need to show the Balfours ad featuring He Who Must Not Be Named.

That should get the blood pumping.
