Lets be honest the people running this club over the last decade have NFI when it come to developing young talent. Another sh*thouse selection week from Sanderson.

No premierships for you.

It's why so many players leave, and why we can't convince big names to join. No clue.

haven't gone through the whole thread... anyone commented on the fact the Jessie White got picked for the swannies?
No surprise. The way he was treated here was absolutely appalling. Big chance for him and you can bet his team mates will be switched right on to feeding him as much as possible

Surely the fact Lyons is NOT an in for Glenelg puts a different slant on this selection and makes many of these reactions massively unfair.

He is young, it is not uncommon for players in his situation to be rested. Better than than an injury that derails his season (eg 4 weeks with a hammy, 3 weeks to regain his spot and suddenly the season has gotten away from him.

The club/selectors need benefit of the doubt here.

Harper said he will likely return in the next 2 weeks, which was met with sceptecism on here, but given he will play no football this week then this may be true. If that happens (e.g. he replaces porps after he plays this week as sub) would you be unhappy?

I say hold fire til after the bye.

The way he was treated here? o_O Sydney tried to off load him and we preferred to bare our arse naked and get reamed by the AFL just so we didn't have to take him. Token inclusion.

Haha! Not this time.

The difference is that I think Porplyzia is a good footballer and worth persevering with. I know he's been crap but I also saw him step up in the finals when some of his more currently in-form team mates didn't give much of a yelp and got exposed by the occasion.

Previously we have seen kids miss out when players I consider average get games ahead of them. That shits me no end because there is no upside - the kids don't get games, the average players remain average. And what it means is it guarantees that our team can't be good now or in the future. That's where the rants come in.

I think no one on here Carl will deny Porps has/had the talent (Jury is out), but how long can we carry him? The question I want answered is how long do we persevere with him and hope he recaptures his old form? and will this be to the detriment of the development of one of our kids. The problem i see with Porp's is if he's not getting the pill, than he is effectively valueless, he can't tackle, he provides little to no forward pressure, there has to be a tipping point.

What exactly is wrong in sending him to the SANFL, letting him find form there, and then recall when in tip top shape?

Harper barely knows how to spell his name so don't show too much faith in what he says. You could understand it if he wan't playing better football than Reilly, Mckay, Van berlo and porplyzia.

How many games has Lyons played? He doesn't need a rest. That's a cop out.

Maybe the coach, who sees him every day, has assessed the situation and thinks he needs a rest? Or maybe he'll play for Mackay. Either way, why don't you wait to see what happens?

If that was even close to being remotely true, the Crows would be down in Melbourne territory.

And wait for all the information to be at hand? Screw that, my outrage demands satisfaction NOW!

that is a stupidly uninformed comment. YOung body, tough game last week. Could have niggles (e.g. hammy tightness) that could appear from 1 game let alone a number. How many had Crouch played before injury. Also, he has played just a handful of AFL games but played SANFL before that so plenty of time to develop general soreness, the body doesnt reset when you get an afl game.

Regardless what you think of him, the fact he isnt named for Glenelg still stands. If a player is dropped they play SANFL. IF they dont play at all its a rest (unless held back as an emergency but Glenelg play Monday so this doesnt apply as he can do both).

Not knocking Crouch but wonder why so many say he has a much greater future and should be in team rather than Lyons when Lyons although little older would have only played a few less SANFL games than Lyons and about same AFL.
Lyons SANFL has had much greater impact than Crouch and AFL would be on a par where opinion only difference.
Is it because he is high draft or because Sando says going to be a star or do posters really see something that says should be in ahead of Lyons this week .

@Jenny69 and Tex Danger, so which Adelaide official has said he needs a rest? That's just pure speculation you guys are using to justify his non selection.

The fact he's an emergency and we have 2 suspect players is more likely the reason why he hasn't been named for Glenelg rather than needing a rest.

Maybe young body? Last week's game was an absolute bruiser so it may just be a great time before the bye to give him a rest, particularly with the Crouch inclusion. Given that there's doubt if Mackay/Thommo will get up, he may be a late inclusion anyway.

I don't mid the changes tbh. Good to see Hendo back and Smack was a no brainer. I would have liked to see Porps go back to the SANFL as many have echoed. Surely his free passes to find some form would be running out soon.

I probably shouldn't have used that wording, but Porps was not EASILY worse last week, they were on par at worst. Mackay went off injured and it definitely affected him for 1.5 quarters, so it's not really a fair argument. Smith and Kerridge have plenty of points in the bank, and have far better form this season than Lyons. Since when was selection based off one game?

Reilly was bad last week, but he plays a completely different role. Do you want Lyons as the distributor off HB?

Crouch is a much much more talented player than Lyons, and he's the best young player to come into this club in a long time. I don't care if he doesn't fully deserve selection, his development is the number one priority. His form was quite good before getting injured too.

Sorry but Porplyzia was EASILY the worst player in the game last week he's fortunate there were players like Gumbleton with one clanger handball for the match before being subbed about in the league he was in the top 20 or so worst performances in the league which will of included subbed out and injured players as well as players in teams who were flogged in a very lop sided round and because of MacKays injury he had all match to have his most out of it game ever and I honestly think it may have to of done with the late changes.
There is no way but up from here.
I was trying to defend his game in the first quarter since he was okay the week before getting some handy link touches but as the game went on it was a train-wreck. Honestly I think he's due this week.

Smith was less clean then Lyons, but both played relatively well. You can't dance around the situation that Adelaide have some untouchables and some players Sando clearly has in his supercoach team.
The selectors are closer to the players, the stories they give us are off the cuff honestly there would be more then one factor for dropping given players.

Lyons didn't set the world on fire, we have a stronger side this week IMO as Martin had no business coming in and Brown did make some rookie mistakes. Just not sure how we match up down back on certain Swans forwards that have killed us in the past.

No senior player ever goes back to the SANFL/VFL, finds form over a period of weeks, then returns to have a significant impact at AFL level again. There just aren't the examples out there.

What's far more common is the Johncock situation. I've said before that senior players don't lose their spot in the team. They get retired.

So the decision is not whether to give Porps a couple of weeks at Westies. It's whether he gets a line put through his name permanently. It's a big call on a class player, particularly after he showed up a number of more fancied Crows in September which seems like ages ago but has really only been 10 games.

Realistically, I reckon he'd have maybe 2-3 more chances tops. If he doesn't give us something soon it is the end of his career. Time at West would do nothing.

EC, all these threads are pure speculation. Unless of course you are Bickley?? ;)
See my edit. We've got posters arguing he's been rested because he needs a rest and shooting down others for dismissing it. It's okay to speculate but at least be right ;)

Props selection does baffle me, but i think Spackler has a point about the older players going back to the magoos.

Porps played very well in finals and we need those sort of players in case we make it again. Performers in the big games
