In a game against Sydney, we need the bigger bodies, so it is a shame that Jonas should be rested.

Ryder comes in for Jonas, with Westhoff down back. We need a second tall tall.

Wrong game to take Bobby out, but if he is not fit then ?

Replace Schultz with Butcher of Harvey. Either Butch is in the future or not. If he is, play him.

Moore should stay because of the big body.

I don't think we have anybody to replace Mitchell's run. But given it is a small ground, I would bring in Young and as sub.

Monfries, Monfries Monfries. His apprentice is Amon. Monfries on notice.

Out: That syphilis riddled bald headed ****knuckle

In: An umpire who is incompetent towards both teams

As others have said Ah Chee must not be sub. He adds something that we need in the contests especially against a team like Sydney - a hard tackler who's not afraid of throwing his weight around. He's got a nice pair of hands too. Took a nice pack mark in our forward line in the 3rd qtr. Just a pity he didnt convert. And his handball is a weapon. He's a promising player who needs to be given more game time.

The Sydney game is two weeks away so time to look at 'possible' inclusions. On present form we won't beat Sydney in Sydney as long as our arses point to the ground so maybe it is time to experiment and look at some potential.

Please note, I am not suggesting we make all of these changes, simply that we look at them ...

It is a tough game to blood Harvey but who knows, some great players have had their first taste against tough opposition. I am reluctant to drop Schulz but he is way out of form and looks like he needs a couple of weeks off to re charge.

I would make the straight swap of Clurey for Jonas. Tom is simply not doing enough and Clurey is the future plus Clurey is no slower than Jonas and has 5cm on him. If Carlile is out then the height of Trengove, Hombsch, Clurey and Westhoff will be needed.

I don't give a rat's for Mitchell's pace, the guy is not an AFL footballer. Maybe we should experiment with Impey in a running role. To be honest I am not sure how Ken sees Impey's future role but he looks to be groomed as the small man in our defence. Maybe it is worth moving Colquhoun back to defence and having a look at Impey further up the ground? We also have Krakouer in the 22 to play small in defence if needed but I would like to see Krak given a run up forward just to take some attention away from Wingard.

Ryder has to come in so given our lack of impetus at the stoppages maybe he plays as the no 1 ruckman. Given the height of Sydney in attack we are probably going to need Westhoff and Trengove in defence so Ryder and Lobbe should do the ruckwork. There maybe a case for giving Lobbe an additional weeks rest. If Redden is miles ahead of Lobbe in the ruckman stakes, as some suggest, we should probably revisit him sometime in 2015.

I am not sure how many chances Andrew Moore gets but he must be using them up fast. Moore has played 50 games and thus far we have not found a spot for him. Along with Kane Mitchell, Moore has shown the gulf that exists between the SANFL and AFL competitions. Moore possibly deserves an extended crack at it but if he doesn't impact this year we should look at trading him if we can.

One guy who has had the cold shoulder is Cam O'Shea. Two years ago Cam was close to our best defender but now he cannot get a game in an average side. I know that O'Shea's SANFL form has been down but unlike Moore, Mitchell and Young this guy has shown he can do it at AFL level. It seems a bit tough to drop him on the strength of one ordinary performance against Brisbane. I, for one, will be disappointed if Cam walks due to lack of opportunity in a side that is not going well.

John Butcher, where does he stand? Against Westies Butcher was finally given an extended run in defence and apparently it worked. Maybe we should give Butcher a couple of weeks in defence in the SANFL them give him a final crack at AFL? Butcher may benefit from the confidence boost if he can put a couple of good defensive games in the SANFL behind him. Then again he may be a better defender than attacker.

Guys like Amon, and Ah Chee have to be persevered with and we would do well to get as many games under their belt as we can in 2015.

We won't make all these changes against Sydney and if the past is any guide Ken will trade on the week's rest and only make a couple of obvious changes. I hope though that we are at least thinking about experimenting a bit and giving players a chance to show what they can do before decision time at the end of the year.

Postscipt: Since I posted the above I have had a look at Ford Fairlane's 'Dishonest Football' thread. It got me thinking that it doesn't matter who we put in or who goes out if the players don't take 'honest' football out on the the park. Supporters talk about dropping this guy and picking this guy but will that change anything if the playing group is not getting the fundamentals right?

My 2cents worth.
I have no hope for this game no matter what hinckley does he needs to seriously re think where he is going imo.

Come on people. We are not going to drop Jay Schulz who's been our leading goalkicker for about the last 5 years straight and who is currently 12th in the Coleman for a guy who's never even kicked more than 3 goals in a game at SANFL level to make his debut against Sydney at the SCG with a 4 day break from his last game. I know this is a forum and we're all sharing our own opinions, but at least try to include some semblance of realism.

4 day break? On track record, we're more likely to debut Harvey. After all, soccer players have 3 day breaks do they not?

Too early at this stage but I'd want Clurey getting a game, even if it's at the expense of Jonas.
That seems to be the one position where we can't do any worse, which often is what selection committees look at rather than can we do better. The only reason I can see for the retention of players like Monfries is that if he has a half good game Monfries could kick three or four, whereas someone like Moore or Mitchell does not have that same upside to them. Seeing as Ken put games into Sam Gray even though it was obvious even before his selection that he would be a total loss, I would afford Andrew Moore the same courtesy. He was not much against Carlton but he had a lot of friends and it was his first AFL game for a while. He may have disappointed as a high draft pick but there is still a chance to get something out of him and keep him on our list as a useful backup.

Am swayed by the Harvey argument but wouldn't want people complaining if we got hammered and he didn't contribute too much.

In 2011 Johnny Butcher debut kicked 1.1 had 4 kicks, 4 handballs, 6 marks, 3 tackles and went close to kicking a goal with his first kick at AFL level. We lost by 165 points that day. I dont recall anyone pissing their pants and screaming for Butcher to be dropped for the next game. I guess we will find out if we are still a mature footy forum if your scenario plays out.

Not sure if serious? What would Brett Ebert add to our current set up?

I just had a thought. Now all this losing may have gotten to me but hear me out.

We're officially at the lowest ebb of our season so far. We've lost to both Brisbane and now Carlton. Many are saying our season is shot. We're hopeless.

Do you guys remember a time when we were at our lowest, with no hope. We needed a hero, a saviour. Who was it that filled us with hope? Gave us a light in our darkest hour?

John. Freaking. Butcher. 'The Future'

It's his time.
