Maybe. Or Brisbane have the option covered and turn it over. He should have just kicked the goal.
Imagine the heat Petracca would have copped had he tried to kick backward and turned it over lol.

Did the right thing.

There's no way after they let the first one slide through to Petracca that Brisbane hadn't manned up after that. You'd have to be an awfully bad or team full of players that didn't care to allow uncontested marks in a close game to happen twice. Brisbane are off form, but they are not that undisciplined or lazy to correct that mistake

Goal or no Goal, i'd rather our players be encouraged to back themselves anyway.

If this was 21 no one would be complaining because everyone would feel a lot more confident in our ability to defend the oppositions transition from a point. Or like in that final against Brisbane Petracca just kicks the door shut anyway. The real problem is you're worried we can't defend the ground when the opposition have the ball because we rightfully can't a lot of times

but he did turn it over. he gave the ball straight back to Brisbane who rebounded it quickly. it was very low footy iq. the common sense thing to do is to find another short option. Sure if it's not there obviously not force it but he wasn't even looking to do so.

Would you prefer a turn over closer to Brisbane's goal?

We keep Warner and Heeney quiet we win. My fear is that Oliver and Viney will get destroyed by their pace and in Heeney's case aerial talents. Gawn v Grundy will be interesting. Swans own us so we'll start outsiders but genuine chance to win next 2 and be 6-6. Realistically probably win 1 of our next 2.

tell me the last time a dees player has missed a 15m pass going sideways or backwards around the 50m line? As Bartel alluded to, getting 1 more mark wins the game. We don't need a goal.

Let's crunch the maths. The odds of petracca turning it over having a shot on goal = 9/10. The odds of petracca turning it over going 15m to a player standing on his own (backwards or sideways) is 1/50. I'll take the 1/50.

Even if he misses the target and it doesn't get to the dees player on the full, that player can then kick it to the top of the square. Taking 10s off the clock. Still in a much better position.

This stuff is common sense and really should be second nature to professional athletes.

We were 8 points up with a minute to go, he kicks a goal we win. If not still in a good position to defend.

exactly, a goal is not needed. a chip pass = we win. what's harder to execute, a chip pass or a goal from the worst set shot in the afl over a 4 year period?

And we didn't defend the behind anyway. They slingshotted.

I could be wrong but didn't the same logic lose us the game versus GWS? If AJ goaled, we win. he didn't. they slingshotted, they goaled and game over.

No, because the AJ situation there was less than a goal the difference. Trac misses Brisbane still have to score twice in a minute. Doesn't matter anyway because nothing came from it. More things to worry about, plenty of others missed easy chances throughout the game too.

Basically just selected himself lol...
Sounded like he's all but been told he's playing this week. Also why they'd roll him out for the presser. But yeah sounded more than a bit smug haha.

Thought Disco was really good against the Lions. Sucks that he and Lever are similar types otherwise May would be in the gun IMO.
Could roll him forward but don't think you can play all of he, AJ and Petty there and we need a relieving ruckman.

Fritsch probably comes back in for a full game too so maybe Turner becomes the sub and we drop Spargo or something.

Think AJ's ruck ability will keep him in for another week and I hope they don't roll with the 3 tall forwards again now that our forward pressure has picked up.

You're right, they'd be itching to get Fritsch back in to the 22, but personally I'd give him another week as sub to see if he can bring that intent for more than 1 quarter.

I'd be disappointed to see Turner make way for Lever. Would prefer him forward than not in the 22.

IN: Lever, Viney, Laurie
OUT: AJ, Spargo, Sharp

I actually don't mind what Sharp brings in terms of speed but his disposal and decision making was poor on the weekend. Spargo had a shocker and his usually high standard kicking i50 has deserted him this season. A third of his disposals on Sunday were clangers!

Dare I say it's time to at least see what Laser can bring in a full game of football. Also wouldn't mind seeing Viney play the Spargo role. He has always had a knack for finding the goals and hunts the ball like a mongrel. I really don't think we can play Oliver and Viney in the same CB set-up.

also, since Petracca's brain fade of having a shot with 80 seconds left, Brisbane had 2 inside 50's. It's just not good enough. He needs to be smarter.

Bartel called it out, the commentators on the night called it out. It shouldn't even need explaining. Its obvious.

Anyway, I don't think Lever should come back in. I don't think he's best 22 atm. He's only as good as the goals he concedes from clangers and he's giving 2-3 goals away per week. Absolutely no coincidence that our best footy has been without him. I'm sure he'll come in though.

If Turner stays please play him back.

Is Howes in the team? Could swap him out for Lever?

I think Viney is an auto in but you can't play him and Oliver midfield so do what canary said and what I've been saying for a while - play him as a defensive forward and turf Spargo who clearly needs to go and find form in the reserves.

As for sub I'd keep Fritsch in it again and keep him hungry. Sharp can stay in because I think Laurie is a spud and if he isn't Micho will be vindicated and we will never hear the end of it.

It's not a brain fade to take a shot at goal with a minute to go and your 8 points up. Nothing happened they didn't score, so I think you should relax on that, just enjoy the win.
