Lmac with a hard tag on serong lol
Dont think Lmac has the firepower to go with him but sheesh he is in good form, gonna cause some headaches in our relatively inexperienced midfield, he is fast, strong and sure footed. will be a real balancing act to keep him in check without negation our midfields creativity we are trying to foster with norfball. i would be inclined to possibly run will phil with him for 2 reasons, Will has a bit of strength and would also be a good learning experience for him, otherwise have wardlaw sit of him a bit and see if he has the closing speed to at least pressure Serong so he isnt putting them down Amiss's throat,

If X can carry his form of last week in at least they wont be getting complete Silver service, Walters was lurking as well which will test the mobility of the defence, i think Colby might need to pay him a bit of attention as he seems to have the wheels to go with one of their more mobile forwards. Pink gets another go manning Jye however heing a lot more efficient shot at goal that hogan could kick a bag with fewer opportunities as he is comparable to larkey come conversion efficiency.

Luckily we're not playing GWS away every week, I guess.

They'll pants better teams than us at home.

I know we're sick of losing "wah wah poor me I'm so sick of it"..but expectations should be kept realistic. 6 wins with the holes we have would be an achievable result hopefully.

I don’t think people understand my point. If it was as simple as “we only lost by 39 points” then I’d be the happiest man alive. However, they more than doubled our scoring shots hence we should’ve lost by significantly more. They ran through our team at will due to the lack of pressure, defensive running and our papadum backline.

I think more people will see what I’ve seen over the next few weeks. I’m trying my best to remain positive but my expectations are much higher than simply finishing above west coast again. I want genuine improvement. So sick of being s**t.
possession chains were indicative of this, firstly as you allude lack of pressure allowed them to execute some fats accurate passages of play, i really think they are being coached better under Kingsley than Cameron, they seem to have very well drilled running patterns, alternatively we have a few weak links in our roster that result in unforced errors turning the ball over when we were most vulnerable, really hard to defend against that.

good summary, we are about 5 players off being a balanced side, possibly 4 could be filled with development hoping Goad, Hardiman come on and possibly a surprise or 2. but we are really going to have the get the check book out in the next year or 2 and get at minimum another Ruck and KPF/KPB. if we have to trade a surplus mid in the process so be it.

We showed genuine improvement on the weekend. Just in the way we played. Our backline was a shambles but they've never played together and apart from Corr (who was obviously underdone) have about 50 games experience between them, with Sheezel up there for the most experience at the level.

Neither side (Freo/Lions) yesterday ran with the speed and co ordination of the Giants. They are well drilled and switched on and have absolute confidence in each other (which is why we opened them up at times too.)

The biggest issue for mine is lowering the eyes going into 50.

If we'd lowered our eyes going forward instead of reverting to long bombs to their defense we'd have been better off on the forward line. One of those stat plots Enigmal posted shows our f50 entries and they from a long way out, another short kick moving forward would be so much more effective imo.

I think we need to some improvement before our cheque book comes into play. Right now, we're in the market for the Fishers and Stephens of the world looking for opportunity.

W Dawson and Goad were a good start. Need to keep bringing more of them in.

Hopefully Hardeman and George kick on to release McKercher and Sheezel.

sadly this has been an issue for some time,

For a defensive unit with Taylor in it, thats easy pickings also. Its shorter inside 50’s against gws.. or pagans paddock
angles play a role ass well, see how well other teams slice off a bit of angle going forward to create some space for the leading player to run into going round the rebounding defenders such as taylor.

i agree however it is inevitable we will need to recruit for need before we challenge.

I really think there is a choir of posters who seem to have NFI about how deep the f***ing hole is that we are digging ourselves out of.

Sure we have a lot of young talent on the list but there is an amount of time that it will take to go from where we are to the point where they win consistently.

We need to be bigger, fitter, stronger, taller, have more experience all over the ground, have core that has played enough footy together that they are actually cohesive on the ground.

We will see glimpses of what we can become this year. We will win more games than last year. There is still hard road ahead.

Yep:

-genuine pressure small forward
-contested marking key forward
-big bodied inside mid
-lockdown small/general defender.

-genuine pressure small forward - (Paul Curtis (needs to pull his finger out)
-contested marking key forward Charlie - (Comben has all the physical attributes to be one).
-big bodied inside mid - (The bull has had 5-6 years to get a tank to play there).
- lockdown small/general defender - (Hardeman & George have been playing hat role in the VFL)

still a little bit of doubt on combens set shot kicking.

Seems to be a fair bit of drama about who will relieve Xerri for a bit if CCJ is dropped, pretty sure i saw Marlion Pickett do this, not ineffectively v Carlton, Greenwood is more than capable if needed, and adds good defensive pressure too, not the big drama it's being talked up imo.

"Scoring Shots" are a really overrated way of judging onfield dominance, if a team has a really bad scoreline it's usually because they've been denied quality entries. Conversion is part of it, there are always going to be weird outlier days where a side just can't kick straight to save their lives (see Hawthorn this weekend) but usually if a side kicks a lot of behinds it's because their forward entries were pushed wide or they had to take running shots under pressure, which does come down to gameplan. We definitely made the most of the shots we had in comparison but they were all shots that competent players can kick close to every time, and GWS didn't miss many of the gettable shots they had, their behinds were mostly from far out, on the run or tough angles. The difference between us and them is most of our messy forward entries just got completely shut down rather than making it to the behind line.

Paul Curtis just doesn't have the pace for that role.

We should have the premiership in the bag…

My point is that while technically we have young, unproven talent, these options are recently acquired and represent the shallowest depth possible in areas we really do struggle in (and have done so for far too long).

Compare our direct peers for example (Hawthorn, WC and Adelaide). While some of these teams have much more experience in the spine and key positions, they have continued to recruit for talented depth, while we have mostly been recruiting for mids.

We still have many gaps to fill to create a premiership list (as apposed to a team).
