Changes vs the Lions :(

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

this week our match committee faces the difficult task of fitting in
Trengove, Moloney and Junior... all three of whom have been fantastic when playing for us this year and undoubtedly deserve to be slotted straight in... the problem is who do we drop???

After a 73 point win things are looking good, especially with the numerous players to come in (also Blease, Tappy, Strauss, Fitz, GAWN, etc.)

all three players MUST come in, i reiterate.... who for???

this was our team:

B: Colin Garland, Jared Rivers, Clint Bartram
HB: Jordie McKenzie, James Frawley, Joel Macdonald
C: Jamie Bennell, Cameron Bruce, Brad Green
HF: Lynden Dunn, Cale Morton, Tom Scully
F: Colin Sylvia, Jack Watts, Liam Jurrah
Foll: Mark Jamar, Rohan Bail, Aaron Davey
I/C: Nathan Jones, Paul Johnson, Addam Maric, Austin Wonaeamirri

if i had to make changes it would be...

In: Moloney, Trengove (if uninjured), Junior
Out: Jones (needs to find some form but will be in our best 22 moving forward), Bail (if Trengove is injured) :(, and one of Bennell/Maric :(

i dont like any of those changes but those three players deserve immediate recalls...

to deal with it i think Moloney and Trengove will rest for another week (or play VFL ala Junior)

and Jones goes out for Junior...

Changes will be minimal.

In: Moloney or Mcdonald (whoever is more fit)
Out: Bennell
Bailey praised Bennell's chasing and pressure on OTC Aus, doubt he will drop him personally, but certainly some tough decisions for the match committee

Can anyone make a case for Warnock coming in to play on Fev?

I'm not sure Rivers is tight enough to play on Fev or Brown, so we might be best to go back to Warnock on Fev and Frawley on Brown.

I was thinking the same thing, Warnock has to come in to play on FevLOLa and Rivers is the most suitable player to drop.

I have heard talk of Scully and Watts to be rested. Not totally against this. Lets hope Macca, Trengove and Beamer are ready to rip the Gabba up. Maric, Bail, Jones or Bennel and the possible out if Scully and Watts do play.

Just wondering when you all think they should play Tapscott. I would suspect they would want to give him a game this year and he is playing good football.

This is a pretty hard week to pluck out some changes, especially if the conflicting opinions on Demonland are anything to go by.

I feel that I have to resort to ifs, buts and maybes because there are no really obvious options here.

I'm thinking if Dunn doesn't pull up (apparently finished on crutches) then either JMac or Moloney (Moloney is apparently 50/50) and Sylvia takes on a more attacking role.

Also if Scully is "rested" then Trengove is an obvious in.

I think Warnock for Rivers also makes sense given our opposition.

Yes you can make cases for some of the less regular players to be dropped eg Maric but I see no harm in playing them and I think circumstances may dictate.

There is also talk of "resting" Watts so tbh it's all too complicated as far as I'm concerned. If Dunn pulls up then replace with Watts.

This is more a guess than an opinion...

In: McDonald, Trengove, Warnock

Out: Dunn/Watts, Scully, Rivers

What? No offence but Bennell out? No chance he started the onslaught and as dean bailey said "was still chasing even with four seconds to go".
Bad Call.

I think Moloney for Bail, although Dean loves him. he calls him "the running machine"
Junior will go in for Dunn if not fit. Seriously cannot take out Jonesy. He kicked two goals and added constant pressure to the opposition.

I honestly don't think trengrove will come straight back into the side. I think he play VFL first.

I'm not sure if Dunn is out that we'd also rest Watts,I also think that we need to keep the pace of Bennell, Bail, Wonna, Maric etc against the Lions. Some tough calls to be made no doubt. Maybe just McDonald for Dunn if injured or maybe Scully or Jones... Jeeprs it's tough.

Watching Fev's last few games i'm not sure he's such a threat. Maybe we drop Riv play Warnock on Brown and let Frawley run off Fev and work him over. Be good to se if Fev's groin is really up to it.

.

No , they must not.

NO CHANGE

Interesting times, but Rivers wasn't dropped even when he wasn't playing all that well, hard to see him being dropped now. He's not in the leadership group for nothing, and especially in the absence of Grimes, is something of a backline general.

Trengove should come straight back in, he's too good to be getting cheap kicks at Casey. Junior is, after all, the captain and would be straight back I would imagine. Some good suggestions re Warnock, but then .. who do you drop?

And if Moloney comes up ....

Why would Watts be dropped?

He doesn't need resting, he needs game time.

I don't think resting him for this game would be too disruptive to his development. I'd like to see him playing as many games as possible, but there is talk of giving him a rest. This is a perfect chance to do so. We have 3 or 4 players who deserve to come into the side and Watts on form probably deserves to miss. Bring him back in the following week and play him regardless for the rest of the year.

IN
McDonald(skipper automatic inclusion)
Trengove
Warnock(must come in to play on Fev as we have no one else who can)

OUT
Watts(rested)
Dunn(injured)
Bail

Moloney has a bad corky and i believe will not come up for this week and possibly next. Dunn will miss due to injury and Bail is stiff to miss but I'd rather Trengove in the side. If Scully is rested, then Bail retains his spot, but i highly doubt we will rest Scully in anymore games this season.

You could also argue Rivers could be dropped for Warnock which is a possibility, but Bailey seems to like Rivers in the side rather than not. Maric deserves to play for the rest of the season, and tbh, i think he played well enough to keep his spot. Same with Bennell and Wona who combined with Jurrah could be formiddable in the final 5 matches...

Anyone considered that Moloney and Trengove might not be ready, or at least the comittee may be in no rush with them? Also, Junior may not come straight back in due to the travel factor and may play another at Casey.

Personally I don't think there will be any non-forced changes, except possibly Warnock as a match up on Fev, as others have suggested.

Why make a change. Everyone was a winner on Sunday (except Sydney). And Maric and Bail will only improve with more games under their belt and gel with the team. We need stability if anything.

No change.
McDonald may get another week in the VFL, alongside Moloney.
Get the feeling Trengove will be put on ice, to get him 100% for next season.
No change, unless there's an injury, in which case - McDonald in.

I love these types of problems. Even players like Maric, Bennell, Bail, Wona, Bartram and MacDonald had solid to very good games, and they would be your typical dropping candidates.

I don't think taking both Watts and Dunn out of the team for a midfielder and a fullback is such a good idea.

Assuming Trengove is right which judging by the article on the MFC site seems like a good bet, he should deifnitely be straight back into the team. He was one of our best last time we played Brisbane and has clearly earnt a spot in our best 22. Maric out for mine.

Don't think Moloney will come up.

I think Bailey has generally given the youngsters a minimum of two consecutive games before making a change, and I totally agree with that line. So I'd like to see both of Wona and Maric to play against Brisbane.

i know it is a dilemma, but please do not drop maric or especially benell. Their forward line pressure was first class and made ball users like kenelly, mattner, shaw and grundy look fairly ordinary.

I would make no changes and give junior one more week in the vfl then bring him back next week to play in victoria.
