We have been worked out, and it has exposed our biggest flaw which cost us games at the start of the season.
Going inside 50 we have plan 1a and plan 1b.

Plan 1a is bomb it to the goalsquare, where our KF is sitting. Sadly, there are usually 2-5 other forwards standing next to him with their defenders and we turn it over, or the extra defender flies in from the side for a mark.

Plan 1b is when we are on the turnover and everyone hasn't floated back, and we can hit up petracca or someone on the loose. This happened so much during the first Adelaide game where we didn't bomb it, and we had a good win.

We have to assume that now, for a majority of the time, our forward 50 is going to be flooded. Bombing it inside 50 does not work, is the definition of insanity, and is pure torture for fans to endure.

We need plan 2. I'm not exactly sure what it could be. Maybe we need to play keepings off, get everyone to lead out of the goalsquare and free up space all over the place - then go to either a lead or a 2 on 2 in the goalsquare.

Our forward 50 entries have been diabolical all year, it was just masked by our high intensity high press allowing us to capatilise from the chaos balls. Those few weeks where TMac was good was the only time we had what you'd call a normal looking setup with the tall forward leading up at the ball-carrier with some space ahead of him. Otherwise, Plan A is get the ball down there quickly and bomb it on the heads of a three-on-one or four-on-two in an open forward line, which gets quickly run out by the opposition. Plan B is to hold the ball up until there are 30 players inside our 50 then try and pinpoint targets, fail miserably, then try and get the groundball, work it around through a half a dozen handballs until someone can get a shot. I'm not sure whose responsibility that shambles is, but I'm sure the rest of the coaching department is aware of it. :rainbow:o_O:drunk:

God I hope it doesn't happen, but there is a big part of me thinking we will win the next 2 and lose to the Pies in Round 23 to miss a chance at playing a final. It would be a very Melbourney thing to do. We can't possibly do any damage on current form in September but how good an experience would playing a final be for the whole side..and then have a serious shot at it next year. To miss out on September action by a game or two will hurt so much, especially when we think back to the North Melbourne, Hawthorn and Freo losses throughout the year. A stupid part of me is holding out hope but I don't know why... I should have lost all faith in this side by now.

Bernie Vince got a mark on the 50 when we were 3 goals up. He tried to play on too quickly and the ball was smothered and GWS went up the other end and scored the first goal and we never recovered. Just retire mate
That's one of my favourites from our set play book. The ole 'going inside 50 but end up conceding a goal from it' play. We have nearly perfected it over the years.

Sounds eerily similar to St Kilda's forward set up as well... :drunk:

You know what **** this, i'm not calling quits just yet. Been over to ladder predictor, even if we lose to the saints but win our last two we can still cling to 8th. Just need to thump brisbane to get a good percentage clear of West Coast and Essendon.

Win all three and we'll be there.

This ******* season is weird though. If the hawks beat richmond and win their next three they could be in
Yep I agree. We can still make it even if we only win 2 of the next three. Just have to not get flogged in the loss. The dogs still have GW$, Port in Ballarat and Hawthorn. WCE have Carlton, GW$ away and Radelaide at home. Certainly not out of it yet, but most certainly need 2 wins.

What did Melksham do that made it seem like he was going to get weeks? Haven't seen any footage but noticed he didn't even get a fine for whatever it was he did
Ran past the contest and clipped Hopper (I think) with an elbow to the head.
Hopper standing his ground probably helped and I think Melksham has a good record.
Force and act not too different to Mumford on Gawn but Gawn went to ground and Mummy has previous bad record.

Elected to bump and clipped Hopper in the head with his elbow. He was looking straight at him too. Hopper's concrete head has saved him.

Is it just me or does watts seem to play well against the saints, well if he holds his spot I'm hoping it's true and he fires up.

If he plays I hope he dominates. I think sometimes people misconstrue player bashing as the 'bashers' WANTING the player to fail. I've never wanted a single player in our jumper to fail, just I have confidence in some and not much in others. Right now Watts is at the crossroads imo, getting dropped this late in the year is a horrible look.

Mate - there is no crossroads.

He came back underdone and probably needed a VFL run first.

Very dramatic

In. Hannan
Out. Harmes

Keep Jack in please. I know he probably doesn't deserve another run but it's a critical game and he's a match winner. Harmes isn't, as I said last week you know what you're getting with him.

Gus back would be great but don't think it will happen.

Milkshakes free to play... somehow.
I never thought I'd say this, but thank God.

I'm on board with Milkshakes. Its always going to be love or hate. I'm choosing to love.

So how much longer do we leave him in the side? No doubt he should have played VFL first but now we're just hoping it randomly turns around (I hope it does!).
Its not really randomly. Dropping him won't give him the confidence he needs to turn it on like he did pre-injury, it'll just fire up the circus whilst not serving the purpose of returning through the VFL which is fitness. Just got to back him in now that he's got run in his legs.

Either way I hope the club has learnt its lesson with bringing back injured players straight into the AFL.

Interested in what you fellas reckon on the matchups in our front half?? Bruce, Membrey, Roo, Billings and Gresham?

Fwiw we are only just going form wise as well.. should be a close one!
