I know it’s a different game these days but I preferred the days when forwards kicked goals. Small ones medium ones or big ones.

Tory Dickson busted a gut for the team, every game, but he still found the odd moment to kick a goal. See also Clay Smith.

One way or another this is going to be a smashing. Either we absolutely destroy them in the middle/ground ball, or if they neutralise that battle then Lynch, Riewoldt and Balta could kick about 12 between them.

Better hope our mids come to play.

Got to think recruiting a solid KPD is a matter of urgency at this year. Can't rely on Keath playing full seasons any more. Poor KPDs seem far more detrimental than poor rucks

It's Gardner and first-game-at-the-club-and-not-exactly-a-top-liner-anyway O'Brien to intercept and contest. And the I/C is Libba, Scott, Williams and Butler. Options?

Not exactly. It’s predicated on us having absolutely no KPD depth.

Williams goes to Riewolt (not a horrendous match up) Gardener to Lynch (pretty good match up actually) O’Brien to Balta (he could rip us a new one.)

The problem is if any of our three are not on the ground and they keep the three talls, we are in trouble.

I still prefer it over Zaine attempting to play on Lynch last year. At least Gards has the height and speed.

Would have been the perfect occasion to select another ruck. At very least that gives more flexibility to English to push forward/back to assist our undersized side.

Imagine English or Naughton getting injured midway through the game. Stuff of nightmares.
