I think both.

We are playing a higher percentage of kids recently compared to last year. Makes some on this board happy, but it will be a bumpier journey til we get more in the 50-100 game bracket.

The issue is I don't think its the kids that caused the loss last week. So many of our senior players did nothing (we cant expect the kids to dominate when our older guys cant hold thier own) The loss on the week was not due to a lack of experience it was due to a lack of leadership/talent in our senior players.

Does anyone think we would have played better with Mackay, Stiffy, and tambling in the side? We would have been more experienced but we still would have got pantsted.

Impossible to predict what will happen at the selection table this week. I just hope the kids don't get scapegoated for last week. We need to accept that we were hammered by a much better team, that the whole team collectively panicked and that while guys who panic under pressure at the 20 game mark of their careers might learn to deal with it better in the future, guys who panic at the 200 game mark will always panic.

Having said that, if Kerridge needs a rest I can deal with that - just want Crouch to stay in as although he was poor overall, he geniunely looked to adjust to the level as the game went on last week. My stab:

In: Mackay, Brown, Wright, Lyons
Out: Petrenko, Callinan, Kerridge, Henderson

Crouch stepped right in to a game of AFL football where the pressure was that high that our senior players couldn't deal with it. Relative to how poor we were as a team, he was fine, and should absolutely be playing against Richmond.

He really wasn't though. I don't want him dropped, but he was in the worst 3 players on the ground (or close to).

It'll be at least

OUT: Kerridge and Petrenko
IN: Brown and Mackay

With Callinan, Henderson and Crouch as the other potential guys to be dropped for Johncock, Wright and Lyons as the potential ins. Shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic at the moment.

Anyone else thinking that Tambling will get a run this week against the old club. In Sando's presser he seemed convinced that Tambling has done enough in the SANFL to request another shot in the side. And with a 6 goal haul to Stiffy, could he be a straight swap for Petrenko as Sando also mentioned that Stiff's running pattern has improved since being out of the side, and is working hard on the track to get back to peak fitness.

As much as I love Stiffy, I don't want to see him, Callinan and Porps all in the same side- we need to play for the future and use their spots to get games into players who are a part of it. These guys won't win us a premiership. Their chance was last year. We need to move on.

Yes, but currently the players who are "a part of it" aren't winning us games. And our season is on the line. Why not reward good form with senior selection?

He did his knee and lost his pace.

Tried to slim down this preseason to regain his quickness, but obviously hasn't worked.

Is still playing very well as a lockdown defender but providing absolutely nothing for us offensively. With Rutten/Talia/Otten all being good shut down defenders, but providing no run is a big reason why we are so stagnant bringing the ball out of the defensive 50.

I've been pretty happy with the younger guys who've been given a shot this year. It's more the older, "senior" players who are the issue- Reilly, Porps, Thommo, VB etc. I'm fine with good form being rewarded with selection, as long as it goes the other way as well and applies to all players. Porps should've been dropped at least a month ago and Reilly has to be on the edge.

THe only category he was in the bottom three for (stats wise) was DE%. The rest he was pretty much mid range (9th for disposals in the team). Considering how our senior blokes went I think we could cut him some slack.

I don't care who comes in. Except Lyon should be a definite (especially with keeping him out of the SANFL on the weekend). I just want to see our older guys held to account. A statement needs to be made. And dropping Otten is not going to make it.

Jacobs/Reilly/VB/Thommo(bit harsh) would be making a statement.

But I'm not too naive to think this will happen when Sando talks about Mackay as though he has been tearing it up.

The kids will get the blame, and we will win on the weekend end and mask the truth for a little bit longer.

Can't believe so many are calling for Kerridge and Crouch to be dropped. These 2 are going to be a big part of our future and we need to get games into them. yeah sure they had bad games, kids will do that. We need to persist with them and players like Lyons, Brown and Laird. Lets face it 2013 isn't going to be our year, get something out of it. Drop a few of the under performing senior players and run the kids.

I'd be very surprised if Danger played off half back. Dangers strength is his run not his disposal. What happens if he has one of his runs, butchers the ball, turns it over and his opponent his left standing there at half back free? It's okay t have gun midfielders in defence, but they've got to be elite ball users.

What about Bernard...... Off half back I mean.

I reckon Kerridge will be be omitted, if not this week then very soon simply to manage him for the season. Brown and Laird both picked up "convenient" minor injuries which has left them out of the team for a week or two so far this season giving both of them a rest prior to the bye. Lyons has now also been rested for a week too. Perhaps the bye will come at the right time for Kerridge and he won't require an additional week off. But I wouldn't be surprised or disappointed to see him omitted for a week to enable him to play the season out, form permitting.

The young boys, Brown, Laird, Lyons, Kerridge all need to be managed throughout the year. It's a long season and after some gruelling games, their body's have taken a beating. I agree with you that Rielly, Porps, Makay and VB all should be dropped from the side due to bad performances. We have too many players in form in the SANFL to let that go to waste. Surley bring those players with form into the side and get back on the winners circle, while the players out of form can go back to the SANFL and get back some mojo.
Therfore when ready, can come slot back into the side and keep the momentum going... It's not rocket science... match selection should be the easiest part of the job!

Not saying we should drop Kerridge/Crouch but I do find it somewhat amusing some posters here saying they should stay in because they are our future/young etc.

Are these the same posters that slam the AFC 'gold pass' strategy? Because to me, gifting games simply due to age rather than form is the exact same thing.

Play your best team every week or play for specific reasons, but you can't have it both ways.

The issue is their form hasn't warranted dropping. Crouch was not our worse and Kerridge was a match winner two games ago. Where as VB and Reilly have done a lot less in the same stretch of time.
