It's a combination of both . We are lacking talented players who are experienced . Guys that can put the team on their shoulders week in week out.

The only guys we have that can do that have played 100 games or less. Therefore the capacity to do that becomes inconsistent.

Losing Davis/Bock/Tippet doesnt help.
These guys would have been leaders on the field for the club

Does everyone agree the team is lacking experience and leadership?
I think the problem is that our on field leaders don't have experience and our experienced players don't show good leadership. That along with the fact that these experienced players aren't playing well enough. I don't care if you've played 300 games if you're not doing your job and can't help out your team mates you're of no benefit to anyone.

The only person who I think has both and is in form at the moment is Rutten.

its lacking talented players
too many solid players

Other than Tippett and Tex, which is obviously significant, it's virtually the same side that beat Sydney at the SCG last year.

Of the rest of those who played in that game last year, three are missing by choice of selection (Lyons,Wright Johncock), one is retired (Doughty), and one is injured (McKay). The rest is the same team.

So by these talented players missing, are you referring solely to Tippett and Tex?

If not, there is much more at play here than what you've cited.

Sydney Now >>>>>> Sydney this time last year

Tippet makes a huge diff whether we admit it or not.

I was referring to overall on field leadership.
Bock Davis Tippo are leaders on the field we havent replaced them

Tex and Tippett are a huge loss in terms of pure talent and structure. Without them our forward line is one of the weakest in the AFL. Swapping them for Jenkins and Smack cannot be understated.

I don't disagree, I'm just saying the call that we need more talented players is just scratching the surface of the analysis of this season's performances.

There is a lot more to it.

In brighter news, Trigg is back in minus 18 days and counting.

I agree with you.

I was just referring to on field leadership, we dont have many leaders on the field but our performances this season have alot to do with off field issues.

I would agree off field issues would have had some impact.

I know you are close to either people or a person at the club so I will ask you, do you know if there are people at the club that aren't happy with Sando?

Im sure there are. We know certain players havent been happy with his selection process and his stubbourness
Seems like you know more than i do.

Are u refering to players or staff? If its staff they should start right at the top

Very under-rated post.

Geelong managed 8 players under 50 games but still had an average age of 25yrs+. We has 10 players under 50 games, including Callinan and still had an average age of <25yrs. This just goes to show that playing older players is not evil and that with the right mix of age and experience you can achieve with kids in the team. We only have Rutten and Thommo at 200+ games, and Thommo's form has been down on last year too. Then in the next tier we have Reilly struggling badly with form and Mackay has been bobbling about from average to poor. Porps is struggling with ulcers and it is impacting his fitness, hence his 4 quarter footy. With too many older players out of form suddenly our depth is exposed. We have ok depth and can cover 1 or 2 players out of form by playing kids, but more than that is just not possible. On top of that, Wright hasn't played well an we would have hoped he could build on his form from last year.

I have been saying for a while now that thrashings are a risk when a side lacks experience. Now we have had a thrashing and as a board we do a whole lot of soul searching and wailing and gnashing of teeth. We can't have it both ways. Mind you I do expect better than what we got even from kids, they are professional footballers after all.

Lack of experience is our main issue - half the team under 50 games, we are going to get sporadic performances, particularly when we have many of our 50+ game players out of form.

I think we miss Tex's leadership in the forward line & Porps can't give much in the green vest. Think we are OK for leadership down back & in the midfield.

The reason we don't have enough 100 gamers now is because we didn't blood enough players previously. We were too busy chasing rainbows while Dogga, Shirls, Stevo, Biggles and the gang kept losing us finals.

How are we the 4th youngest team now? That's ridiculous. Goodwin, McLeod, Burton and Edwards gave it away in 2010. And it wasn't as though we didn't have time to plan for their departure. Unless we thought they would all play til they were 40.

Davis has leadership qualities, but the other 2 don't!

Doughty & Walker (injured) is where we have lost the most leadership over the past year... & of course Bailey on match day...

Out:
out Porps, in D.Mack
out Petrenko, in Stiffy (kicked 6 for pies with 20 poss 6 tackles)
out Otten, in Grigg (21 kicks, three handballs, seven clearances.)
out Reilly - in Wright

B: Rory Laird, Ben Rutten, David Mackay
HB: Brodie Smith, Daniel Talia, Ricky Henderson
C: Bernie Vince, Patrick Dangerfield, Rory Sloane
HF: Mathew Wright, Shaun McKernan, Sam Kerridge
F: Graham Johncock, Josh Jenkins, Tom Lynch

RUCKS: Sam Jacobs, Richard Douglas, Scott Thompson

INTERCHANGE: Brad Crouch, Mitch Grigg, Nathan van Berlo SUB - Ian Callinan

Disagree that tippo and bock arent leaders on the field
What makes you think they are leaders? Both are quiet types who prefer to stay out of the lime light.
