Glad he is back training as reckon he may be needed this week to replace the injured Thompson.

The reason we don't have enough 100 gamers now is because we didn't blood enough players previously. We were too busy chasing rainbows while Dogga, Shirls, Stevo, Biggles and the gang kept losing us finals.

How are we the 4th youngest team now? That's ridiculous. Goodwin, McLeod, Burton and Edwards gave it away in 2010. And it wasn't as though we didn't have time to plan for their departure. Unless we thought they would all play til they were 40.

They may have performed on field, but they were not leaders on field.

By your definition, every player over a number of games is a leader, which may work for leading teams, but in reality is crap.

Some players are leaders, others will never have the attributes.

My point is that the age profile and experience of our teams this year is similar to last year so why did we perform so much better last year? It can't all be due to the Dogga Factor.

The key problem is the poor form of many of the more experienced players (e.g. Reilly, Mackay, van Berlo, Thompson, Porplyzia with average cameos from Stiffy and Nutta). An average age of 24 years, 9 months is not remarkable, as is 73 games per player experience.

Many on this board under-rated Dogga ... but yes, our biggest problem has been the lack of form of our mid-age players.

I think both.

We are playing a higher percentage of kids recently compared to last year. Makes some on this board happy, but it will be a bumpier journey til we get more in the 50-100 game bracket.

But the only way to get to 50+ AFL games is to play them, we need to keep blooding youngsters espiecially when our senior players are not performing up to standard. Unfortunately our team is actually better when we play the kids over Tambling, Johncock, Porplyzia, Reilly, they have a much larger scope of improvement. Look at teams like Geelong who have senior players like Johnson, Kelly, Corey, Chapman, Enright, Bartel, Mackie, our senior players Thompson, Rutten, VB and the ones I mentioned above are nowhere near the quality. Our best players Sloane, Danger, Talia etc are all still young and it is unrealistic to expect them to carry the team and provide the leadership we need. We are missing senior players that are genuine leaders and have been lacking in this department since we lost the likes or Roo, McLeod, Burton, Edwards and Goodwin

I knew i missed someone, yep Kerridge over Callinan with an eye on the future, but Callinan is the best small forward we have and if he gets his hands on the ball, he seems to set up lots of scoring opportunities

Last year we averaged 7 players with under 50 games experience, this year we average 10. Since the Bulldogs game it's been an average of 11, so half the squad for 3/4s of this season has been <50 games. In 10/11 we averaged around 3.6/6.5 respectively.

So we've definitely been blooding the kids this year. But the form drop of the players with 50+ games is the worrying bit.

yeah its the "getting the hands on the ball" part..

If Callinan is "still" an option for some it's beggar's belief that Johncock doesn't come into calculations at this point, far better defensively, far more aggression at both the ball and the ball carrier, can really lay a serious bump and has far more "presence" in relation to opposition players than Callinan, and his SANFL form is better than Callinan by all reports. Stiify would have come in real handy against the Swans with his hardness when we were being "ragdolled" by their far more aggressive tactics.

All true, except Stiffy can't crumb a three week old pound cake. Also, he is one sided.

He's a defender and will always be.

Are u refering to players or staff? If its staff they should start right at the top

I was referring to staff, ones higher up the tree.
It's also a worry if players aren't happy about selection, lose the players and you are in deep trouble!!

We've also brought in Laird and Brown. Brown has been steady and getting the job done whilst Laird has been a revelation.

Douglas has improved significantly but Callinan has not played.

Basically we've got too many players down all across the board. But we really hurting with no Tex, Jacobs stinking it up, Thommo being down and Reilly not getting away with not having a man and being exposed as an average footballer.
