Not many other teams run with a designated tagger. Wouldn't it be better for our mids to win the ball and end up being the ones that are tagged? Having a defensive player in your midfield basically means you are running a midfield one short imo. It's just seems a bit defeatist to setup on the presumption you aren't going to win the ball. Instead of running Keays in there we should be looking at how ROB can do his job better and improve his connection with our mids. That seems to be the major problem along with how the mids position themself at times. If ROB is the problem we need to be looking for a better ruck.
He’s averaging 25+ possessions a game in last 2 weeks , are you even watching games ?

Willem Drew plays mid , doesn’t mean Butters Rozee and JHF can’t play mid even though wines is there

The issue is Sloane’s mid minutes currently

RUCK WARS 2023:
Once upon a time, in a BigFooty thread far, far away ...

Versus
I don't think Thilthorpe can be your number 1 ruck. He's simply not competitive enough. He avoids contact in the centre bounce and is easily moved on ball ups/throw ins.

I don't want Sloane or Keays in our midfield. They weren't in there earlier this year but Nicks has gone back to type. Tbh I don't want Sloane in the team but if they must play him play him across half forward or half back. As for Keays he has major limitations but he does give plenty of effort. He's best as a link up player and forward due to his running ability. A quiet game by a young mid and Nick's jumps at shadows and moves them to a graveyard spot. He doesn't act the same way with underperforming seniors.

Spot On !!

Thilthorpe shouldn't be exposed to potential knee knock injuries in the RUCK .....as a FWD though, he can be special, and is already showing snippets of aerial brilliance

We need a forward more than a ruck. Don't get me wrong we need to move ROB out and get in a better ruck but rucks are a lot easier to find than key forwards. We need to be thinking post Tex as Tex isn't going on forever. We still need to find ourselves an elite 3rd tall to pair with Thilthorpe and Fogarty. Luko would be good.

Very hard for young mids to also keep up a full season playing pure mid... these guys are in their 2nd and 3rd years. Getting bashed and crashed into by mature bodies while running out entire games takes a toll eventually. Not like they were playing outside bruise free mids also.

The Eagles have been cooked with injuries for a while, but one of their better players for the year is also now out (Duggan). Hurn out. Couple of promising younger players out (Hewett and West). Their midfield and forwardline still looks ok on paper (Allen and Kelly are having a good season in particular), but their defence is fairly average. Given it's his 250th Tex could honestly kick 6+ this week, also a good chance for Fog to kick a proper bag. Have our usual good start and this game blows out to 12 goals+ quickly I reckon (especially with everyone up and about for Tex), we can pile them on quickly.

Reckon we'll come out seriously flat in this game. We'll be fatigued also, like the Bulldogs were after their Darwin trip.

We won't be in any danger of losing but will probably only end up winning by 30 points.
Nah, this is Tex's 250th, club legend and everyone loves him. I think we come out firing and the crowd will be up for Tex too, especially with the bye next week. Otherwise, I probably agree with you.

That’s have a bob each way Baccs😂
Haha, I am simply saying without the motivation of Tex's 250th, there is a chance we could have been flat coming off a tough game in Darwin. I just don't see it happening though due to the occasion and it's also why I think there is no chance of Sloane resting this week, it's Tex's best mate. Crowd should be decent and will be more up and about due to the occasion too, otherwise it was a chance of a sub 30k crowd and would have been fairly flat.

I was kind about the Eagles defenders earlier, they are honestly so thin down there (doesn't look like Barrass is back this week either). Restrict Oscar Allen and they have almost no other avenues to goal. Gaff can't even make the distance from a 35 metre set shot these days, he's cooked and was a player that used to kill us in the past. I don't see how the Eagles win another game this year.

Maybe Gollant, if he can get that ball to stick .....spills a few too many ATM

Don't forget, Worrell has demonstrated in U18's he can be adept as a FWD

I think the problem is we are picking at least three and usually four from this list each week:

Sloane
Keays
Murphy
Ned

I’d say it should 2 from that list each week, maybe 3 if one of them is the sub. We need to find a better midfield mix and these guys are in the way.

My preference would be this, in order of games played from here on, most to least:

1. Ned
2. Keays (as defensive fwd)
3. Murphy
4. Sloane (but not in the square)

You know I think this has been discussed before, quite a few reckon we didn’t need more rucks on the list. Another one would be handy right about now…..

I don’t think it’s as simple as just having an extra ruck. We’d be less likely to play a developing or mature backup than we are Strachan. We know ROB responded brilliantly last year to his dropping. The certain home demolition of the Eagles is a perfect chance to send a message. But it’s an opportunity to let your locked in bloke enjoy an easy kill. With finals a realistic opportunity, I know where my money would be going.

Kingy, you still overseas? Because I can only think this is the reason for your worst post ever!!!!

Crouch is done, a waste of time and list spot. He’s gone at the end of the year and we shouldn’t waste another minute on him, it’s been a sad end to his career

If it’s a choice between Crouch and Sloane right now, I’m happy to give Crouch a go.

I would have preferred it last week Darcy
Yeah, can hardly make much of a statement against the spooners who are getting flogged most weeks with a big injury list.

I think there may be some fatigue after the Darwin trip and possibly some “looking towards the bye”. But given the capability of your forward line, even a moderate level of supply should see a very big score posted.

5 goals is the very minimum, fully expecting 10+.

There is no requirement of any statement to be made, a normal AFC 2023 performance will see a comfortable victory.
