Any doubt, rest him,

Injury fears for star Crow after training mishap

Adelaide star Izak Rankine is still expected to face West Coast at home on Saturday despite leaving training early with an arm issue.

Rankine stayed down on the ground momentarily after a marking contest during match simulation at West Lakes on Wednesday, before walking off the field, accompanied by trainers, nursing his left arm inside his guernsey.

The 23-year-old goalsneak received a knock to his shoulder and neck area, leading to arm pain, but was said to be fine.

“He just got a little stinger on his shoulder,” Adelaide veteran Taylor Walker said.

“I spoke to him just before and he said he’ll be fine.

“Those stingers usually recover pretty well.”

Rankine has kicked 21.17 from 12 games this season, his first at the Crows since arriving from Gold Coast.

However I think the decisive factor is that Keays' output was drying up at half forward so we did what was best for him; shunting him back into his personally preferred role.

The impact this had on our younger mids is not a consideration for us.
Ben's "personally preferred role" is to be given a job by Nicks, several of which he has done well. He said as much in a presser not long ago, adding that he's prepared to play wherever the team needs him.
He can't do any more than that.
Keays doesn't decide where he plays. Nicks does.
Both Coaches thought Keays was our best player last week. The GBU thread Poll votes suggest same.

Even when he plays well, Keays cops crap in here week after week.
Either he's garbage, or hindering the development of "our younger mids" (none of whom have got his tank and two-way running power).
He busts his gut, every week, and our young mids could learn a lot from him about fitness and effort.
I have wished again and again that Ben Keays had a right foot and showed more composure when NOT under pressure, but I have nothing but admiration for him.

Not many other teams run with a designated tagger. Wouldn't it be better for our mids to win the ball and end up being the ones that are tagged? Having a defensive player in your midfield basically means you are running a midfield one short imo. It's just seems a bit defeatist to setup on the presumption you aren't going to win the ball. Instead of running Keays in there we should be looking at how ROB can do his job better and improve his connection with our mids. That seems to be the major problem along with how the mids position themself at times. If ROB is the problem we need to be looking for a better ruck.
That's as nifty a sideways dance as a Milera baulk :sneaky:.
Did you read the excellent post by NSolis, below?
He's not 'failing', he hasn't just been 'put back there' because he was 'not performing at half forward', he's playing a different role which sometimes has him running through the midfield. As discussed earlier in the thread, he's only had 3 games this year where he attended the majority of centre bounces and they were all games where he was tagging a midfielder
Keays ends up in the midfield most often when the bloke he's assigned to goes there.
It's. His. Job. Assigned by Nicks.
Your reply (side-step) above shifts the blame to RoB (who played really well vs Brisbane, but was awful vs GCS, inexplicably).

Please don't blame Keays or even RoB. They're doing what Nicks tells them to do.

Same posters each week. unfortunately.

A 26 yo mid keeping their best mids quiet and beating them or breaking even at worst

Sounds dreadful , this is all we should be worrying about

All we need to do is reduce Sloane time and keep building Pedlar ( and get Soligo back in there more or freshen … use Schoenberg if needed too )
Read an article on Rachele recently where he said he was too sore to play midfield.

On SM-F926B using BigFooty.com mobile app
Burgess etc would be all over Rachele’s numbers and his drop off with his kms

Continuing to play him in mid if he’s cooked doesn’t help him or the teams development , needs to get his running going next pre season with Peds and Taylor so they can be next Gen midfield

Agree re. Keays.

ROB has generally been decent but he completely phoned it in on the weekend, after his early goal.

About the only ruckman that's been competitive with Jarrod Witts this season is Goldy, also completely obliterated Tim English the week before in Darwin

The occasion sometimes means more than the game and this week is an example of that. Tex would want his best mate out there in a major milestone game.

Tex's reward for his 250th is that he plays in it. He doesn't get to select the team, what nonsense is that.

Eagles to get Shuey and Darling back for this match.

Is it a bit sad that I'm actually nervous about potentially losing 😆
Shuey is absolutely cooked as a footballer. Even if he plays, he doesn't concern me.

No offense to the horrific injury quagmire that our bird brothers West Coast are in, but is anyone else struggling to give a single s**t about this game. Putting aside the milestone, that isn't even 300 games, I am not really interested in watching the Crows downhill ski in a back slapping romp papering over crevices.
Maybe try lightening up a bit and you'd be more interested? The Crows haven't played either of the bottom teams yet this year, and have shown plenty of signs of genuine improvement against tougher opposition. If you're right and it ends up being a one-sided stomp, it will at least be well deserved as evidence of improvement of the side. And hey, as a bonus it's also in a milestone game for a club icon. Walker probably isn't going to play 300 so this will be it, you'd think.

On the other hand maybe the team shits the bed and loses to a bottom side at home, in which case there will be plenty to complain about on this board. It's win/win.

My Shuey highlight.
September 2017, Shuey kicked a goal after the siren against Port Adelaide to win the first elimination final. I was standing in Rome waiting to get into the Colosseum and met a Crow supporter. We watched that goal on his phone. You should have heard the scream from both of us.

Shuey has had injuries so understand the decline, what I can’t believe is the decline of Gaff. The best winger in the comp for years. Never a super long kick, but could certainly make standard 35 metre set shots, which he can’t even make the distance on now. He’s not that old either is he? Wouldn’t be playing on form if they had more than 5 people to choose from.

Yeo is the surprising one for mine. Has been basically finished since the age of 27. Awesome player before injuries struck.

Injuries have hurt him too. Has Gaff had any major injuries that have led to such a rapid decline? He’s got zero kicking power in his legs anymore and also struggles to find the ball like he used to. Yeo played his best game for a while last week.

He's had repeated ankle injuries since the start of 2022.
