Soligo is a bit in no man's land at the moment.

Sholl and Jones are getting the bulk of the wing time.

Murphy, Rachele, Rankine, Pedlar the small forwards/half forwards.

Keays, Sloane, Laird, Dawson the bulk of the centre square time.

He's getting bits and pieces of everything around the edges when others are off.
Jones has been almost exclusively in defense the last two weeks.

The West Coast game at home is the promised land

Anyone who's been struggling a bit just needs to get across the line into the 22 this week and churn out a good un. Book their spot.
Unless the players have a mindset like this

I agree with this:
Time to try something different against the Eagles who have no decent ruckmen.

This is the week to bring in new players not reward poor performances.
RoB's form is bewildering to me.
Last week he played really well against Brisbane, producing some of his best tapwork to (our) mids on the run. Good around the ground too.
Last night he was woeful. I can't explain it (his inconsistency).
Give yourself an uppercut if you think ROB put in an acceptable performance!
I think dropping RoB would be a good move. I don't think his performance was acceptable.
Where we differ is with EH, who has proved time and again he is not of AFL standard.

"Give yourself an uppercut" was used in jest, just like "wash your mouth out". No offence intended.

With Doedee confirmed out for the season (and out for at least the first half of 2024, and possibly having played his last game for the club regardless of a potential return date), it’s time for Josh Worrell to play every single game that he’s ever available for, for the next 8 years. That’s an exciting prospect.

It’s also time to stop pretending Lachie Sholl is an AFL player just because he can hit targets 35m away. He’s treacle slow (nobody seems to focus on this, he looks like he’s running in quicksand), he’s soft, he cannot tackle an 8 year old child and he goes missing when games get tight. GET IT OUT OF THE TEAM.

Seems to me like the West Coast game would be the perfect time to debut Nankervis, or at least give a season debut to Cook. Let’s find out what we have in these guys. Cook has never played at AFL level on a half back flank. Let’s try it. Maybe Nankervis is a better AFL wingman than Sholl (spoiler alert: he definitely will be).

Butts doesn’t have a viable role against West Coast IMO. Murray on Oscar Allen. Worrell at 196 can easily cover the resting ruckman (Jamieson/Williams). Hinge on Waterman. We were badly exposed at ground level in defence against Gold Coast, and this change addresses that issue.

Pedlar needs to play a higher percentage of midfield time this week. The time has come. I don’t mean 90% midfield time. But I do mean 50%, which he’s never done before. Sloane out for an extended rest to enable this. No I don’t give a shit about Sloane missing Tex’s 250th, and neither should any club that takes itself seriously.

Out:
Doedee (inj), Sholl (omitted for rest of season), Butts (omitted for matchup reasons), Sloane (managed)

In:
Worrell, Cook, Nankervis, (McHenry into 22)

Sub:
Parnell or Schoenberg

Was obvious on the weekend that we aren't ever winning finals with ROB. He's just not good enough. He's reactive. He waits for his opponent to run at the ball in a throw in, follows close and hits in the SAME direction the other ruck is already hitting. No wonder he doesn't have hits to advantage.

Might as well give Strachan 5 weeks and see what he can produce.

While at it, maybe we should FINALLY accept that Sloane as a full time mid is done. His first halves are awful. Play him forward in the first half and then rotate him on ball in 3rd quarter, before full time last qtr.
Soligo then should be back in the middle. We are killing his development burying him in his current role.

Week by week, I'm liking Pedlar more and more. Natural talent, very focused and calm, creative, high impact. His smother-collect-goal (kicking under the defender's attempted smother) was footballing genius.
Only 21; could be anything. Exciting.

Agree. They can have a beer after the game and will probably bring their growing families together for a BBQ sometime, anyway.

Strauchan is horrible

Waste of time

If we don’t rate ROB we need to recruit a ruck and delist Strachan

Even if we rate ROB, he's at the age where it's time to start developing his eventual replacement.

Sloane is done as a mid. Play him up forward and give him a week off every 3 to keep him fresh. That way he can go out this year still playing some food football. Pedlar, Soligo, Rachele must be prioritised in the middle with Laird and Dawson as the mainstays. I hope Reid is scouting the league for a decent mid that we can trade in year's end as well. We need more depth as Schoenberg, Berry, Hately, Brown don't look they are gonna be long term players with us. Dowling looks promising so Nicks needs to get some games into him too.

Why go to those lengths to protect a guy that has no upside and offers little now?
Main reason is that he does offer something now, as he's shown a few times this year. Was very important to some of our wins, particularly against Port and Hawthorn. Does seem like his workload needs to be managed though, so it makes sense to manage it.

I agree and wouldn't play him myself but I can't see Adelaide doing that. I mean the fact that they are neglecting out future in the middle and instead playing Sloane in there shows you they can't make hard decisions

Can't be bothered dissecting, but let me make a few points in the wash-up:
  • Relax. It's never as bad as it seems. We continue to show a lot in every game bar 1. This year is infinitely better than previous years, and we're only improving from here.
  • I didn't like how Doedee was getting talked down recently. He's a fine player. So terrible for him :(
  • Sloane should have been rested weeks ago. It's getting tiring being right about obvious stuff.
  • People calling for Schoenberg are bloody desperate. No need to get desperate. It's not quite "back the boys in" stuff, but panic stations aren't helpful

Out:
  • Doedee 🪦
  • Sloane
In:
  • Worrell
  • Whichever of Cook/Nankervis/Dowling is in best form
But most importantly, and maybe this will work if I bold it...
Nicks: it's not the Sloane/Keays/Crouch show. Don't do that ever again you muppet.

Need to look at Jones and Milera in the middle, I'll keep saying it til it happens

Schoenberg has been our best performing. mid in the SANFL. The problem is that it doesn't transfer at AFL level. I would give him another opportunity before putting the line through him but I'm not confident about him. Dowling looks to be the player to get games into.

We need to give Schoenberg a month playing mid at afl level as the best performed sanfl mid

Wear some errors and see if he can get going

Now or never pretty much for him

Start this week against west coast
