I'm tending to the view that we should play English as a fwd ruck for the rest of the year and flog Trenners as the primary ruck.

I agree - it gives us the second tall forward we desperately need, allows English to develop at the highest level and chop out as second ruck.
It will require one of Le Young or Gardiner to step up into a KPD role as we simply can't play Wood as a tall, especially if Crozier is out as we lose his intercept capability.

As it stands with Wally & Crozier out I'd bring in Young give Rhylee his chance as a pressure forward, although I'd even be tempted by Porter given he has been tracking under the radar and laid 8 tackles on the weekend. We need to find out if the kid can play sooner or later.
Shame that Vandermeer is still building his tank as he's the most exciting kid we have at VFL level.

30 Hit outs in the VFL last week, I reckon it’s time to give the big boy a go. English showed a bit forward last week and I’d like him to stay there 1) because he takes the pressure of Naughton and becomes a focal point for our forward ball movement and 2) because it allows Bont to play full time midfield where he’s elite as opposed to forward where he’s average at best.

Sweet from all accounts is a very aggressive, competetive player, a taller Cordy if you will. The knock is his fitness but English is fit enough to give him a sizeable rest and continue to build his ruck game long term.

I’d like to see what he’s got to offer. This keeps Trengrove in the backline to try and quell Kennedy as well.

You've been saying English forward for a while. I agree. Last four games of 2018 we played Trengrove ruck and Roughead forward. Let's try that structure again. Won us three games and should have beaten a full Richmond line up. (Admittedly we had the luxury of Morris and Naughton back).

Would probably help gowers also, playing as a medium tall instead of kpf. He was effective in that role.

Trengove to beat on Vardy and help our mids limit supply to Kennedy and co.

How people want Gardner straight in is beyond me. His form is average and has no where near the potential of Schache. Why wouldn't we tell Schache you have the whole year to show us what you have. Give him some confidence by backing him in.
Or if the coaches think he wont make it swing him to CHB and see what he has to offer there

Because we gave Schache a run of games earlier in the season and took the p**s with his effort. He needs to earn his recall. Sounds like he getting closer.

Losing Croz is a real blow. Hes been fantastically consistent since mid last year and one of the first nowadays I reckon.

Maybe Williams steps up to cover his role.

Ive gone round in circles on Naughts. Initially I thought he should and would stay back, then warmed to the idea of him forward but now Im back to defense again. I suppose my thinking is that hes so incredibly talented that when hes out of the game and starved possession as a forward it really hurts us coz in all likely were getting towelled up at the other end.

As a defender, if hes starved of possession then were having a day out and putting on a score so happy days. If hes busy as a defender hes probably still having a positive impact, or at least significantly reducing the damage and keeping the peckers of those around him up.

Basically Im getting to Naughts back, English fwd ruck and Trengove primary ruck set in stone. Schache fwd/high fwd only. Cordy and Le Young Im undecided. Would Naughts and Young back and Cordy and English forward work. Or maybe this week in Croziers absence Naughts, Cordy and Young back, Schache and English fwd.

To me this is the best chance we have at a win. Lachie Young is a fairly like for like Crozier replacement, Dickson in for Wallis and Lewis for Red allows us to plug holes where needed.

English rests forward, then one of Trengove and Lewis rucks while the other defends. When English rucks, one of the other two defends while the other goes forward. Move them around a bit early and figure out what’s working, then whenever one is on the bench, play Bont forward with one of Libba and McLean taking his spot in the middle.

Tbh I have very little expectation this week so will settle for coming out of it with a better understanding of players ability to play in different positions.

Edit: Stoked to get a look at Gardner so soon. Replace Lewis Young with Gardner and we’re good to go.

Wow very interesting, I hope Lewis Young plays also still. Has had some pretty good VFL form and deserves a run in the 1s. Gardner coming straight onto the list and ahead of him into the team would be pretty disheartening.

Schache on the other hand has been pretty average the last few weeks (before the weekend), so the calls for him deserving to be in the team are a bit premature. He really should be dominating a few VFL games in a row if he's hungry to get back into the AFL side.

If Dale Morris has 3 touches but shuts a star forward completely out of it then I’d argue Dale has played a great game.

If Gardner gets 3 touches but shuts down a key forward this week then he deserves to retain his spot.

Possessions do matter but they aren’t the be all and end all.
