Nicks doesn't really care about draft picks, he cares about win/loss and an extension. He will go in unchanged unless there are injuries or he needs a different structure. The players are competitive so they will go out to win, tbh the players don't care about draft picks as well. I think we will finish in 10th and end up with pick 9. Sloane needs to be dropped for good but I doubt he is.

I think they will want to finish off the year strongly for membership in 2024 and also to finish as high as possible to prove to the AFL that their pathetic system they have in place for incorrect goal umpires decisions cost us finals. Then we can leverage that for a better draw, better timeslots, more games on the mcg and other concessions next year. Hopefully the umpires will actually give us a fair run next year out of guilt. I dont want any more than that, just a fair run instead of the usual biased umpiring we receive.
Completely agree with what you have said. The Crows will go the soft option. I'd love to see them take a hard lined approach for next season straight away. The circumstances of us missing out on finals this year were extraordinary and the position we have as a result is what we've been left with, we should do what we can to ensure we are as best prepared as possible for next season (and future seasons) to win the premiership.

There's no chance we are going to 'tank' against a side we beat by 20 goals earlier in the year to go from pick 12 to pick 9 or whatever. Absolutely ridiculous idea. The only kind of tanking that ever happens or makes sense is when you've decided your season is shot a month or two from the end so you 'rejuvenate' your list in a way that ensures you lose a lot. The throwing a single match version for an established mid table side is supporter fantasy stuff.

Besides any arguments the club has about the umpiring error costing finals are predicated on winning this game. If we just go and lose to the Eagles it means we'd never have made finals anyway.

Gollant will be in for McAdam now that he's injured but I wouldn't expect too many changes beyond that. Maybe Dowling gets a debut at a stretch.

In a bit of a pickle now, losing takes away any leverage we’d have for finals compensation.
Yep if we lose and results go "our way " with us making Finals had we won Saturday, the AFL and media will say it didn't cost Finals.

I think the attitude at the club will be to smash the Eagles to ram that point home.

How can you compare the result of a dead-rubber against the Eagles versus a game where a spot in the finals is on the line? The season ended for us (and several other clubs) on Saturday night rendering the results in round 23 completely moot for the affected clubs. The Bulldogs could fall into the 8 beating a Geelong side that now has nothing to play for. The Swans no longer need to beat Melbourne to stay in the 8.

If we lose to West Coast it tells us nothing about how the game might have played out it were a live game with a finals spot on the line. All it is now is a meaningless bookend to a disappointing season where our reward for winning is likely dropping from pick 6 to pick 9 in the national draft. Good times thanks to the incompetence of Gil and his AFL cronies.

I'd give any SANFL crow that we are going to keep on our list next year a game, and rest all the older guys in the AFL side (except Walker because of the Coleman chance). That means Brodie Smith, Rory Laird, Rory Sloane, Matt Crouch etc. can have an early season break.
Bugger that

Crouch has qualified for SANFL finals so unless hes being delisted or traded id play him in the SANFL finals

Lord so we do need to win this if we have any chance of leveraging compensation for Saturday’s fiasco, but what if we do and all other results mean we would’ve finished 9th anyway? That’s a draft pick three places lower and probably no compensation because the AFL are frauds. To think none of these mental gymnastics by us and no doubt the club would be taking place right now if it weren’t for complete umpiring incompetence. I’m not getting over this debacle for a while.
Olsen also alluded to the last Collingwood game as well. Where the AFL apologised for the non-paid free to Dawson in the dying moments

But yeah, winning this week is still important.

A loss to West coast could be sold to the AFL by the crows as evidence that last weekends events have had a detrimental effect on the mental health of the players.. and they just couldnt get up for the West Coast game…

“The young crows side was mentally drained and disillusioned after being denied a chance at a finals berth due to the AFL’s complete and utter incompetence”…

That would be the perfect first or second paragraph in any artice on the front page of the Advertiser after any loss to West Coast..

Do you think the AFL might get wind of something suspicious when they see Murphy line up in ruck at the opening bounce?

I'm pretty sure he hasn't, there is a rule around if you are in the AFL team at the end of the year you don't qualify - unless the crows are in the finals. Heard that on the radio last week. I'm not the expert though.

Well…. Murphy does fly for ridiculously stupid marks that are 100 times more difficult than his talent allows..

So… Murphy having a go at rucking may not be that far out of the question..

Sold to the AFL..................
The game is over, move on. What goes around comes around.
.
I can remember when the same umpire paid a goal to the Jenkins on/after the siren that won a show down a couple of years ago.
Where Jenkins said after: My grandman taught me not to lie, it hit the post.
He said he thought it hit the post. Also the umpire correctly reviewed the decision that time.

The rule is for clubs not contending for AFL finals:

"To be eligible, AFL-listed players must have played more SANFL matches than AFL games across the minor round while also fronting for at least three SANFL appearances after June 30."
