Assume they are talking about with academy and compensation picks? Heard today Eagles might not even get a pick till pick 4
They said 6 to 11..

How do we end up with 6 “with academy and compo picks”.. we aint dropping to 16th!..

Unless they considered the compo/nga in the higher number but not the lower number..

I’m in the “I just want to flog the living daylights out of them” camp. Get Tex a dozen goals and finish 9th with a huge percentage. Do not for one second let the AFL or anyone else think “oh well, they wouldn’t have made finals anyways”. The only way to keep this story alive is to be a big fat wart on the end of the AFLs nose.
We are the only ones that care at this point.

No-one else has thought about it any further than the fleeting attention it got at the start of this week.

Sure some stalwarts like Gerard who hate the review system (for good reason) and are upset his Cats can't play for finals this week will still refer to it ... but most pundits are back to worrying about their own.

At the best of times we are an after-thought to most of the AFL community, nothing will change in that space no matter what happens this weekend.

Out Hinge (rest the knee): In Nankervis
Out Sloane (cooked): In Cook (Ironically not Cooked)
Out ROB (Can't mark to save himself): In Strachan
Out Murphy (Omitted): In Berry
Out Smith (Omitted): In Pedlar
Out Borlase (Omitted): In Dowling
Out McAdam (INJ): In Newchurch (just to see him play 1 time)
SUB: Gollant

Tex kicks 14 goals, we still lose by 2 points. Finish with pick 6
I think if Tex kicks 14, he probably outscores west coast on his own.

Would love to see Dowling get a game - but we will probably go for Ned.

Would be happy to see Schoenberg play SANFL - so he qualifies for finals.

I'd guess Gollant will come in for McAdam.

So I'm guessing it will be:

OUT
Sloane
McAdam

IN
McHenry
Gollant

But I would add in Dowling for Schoenberg
Nicks said there wouldn't be a debut... so Dowling unlikely.

Strange that we wouldn't throw a debut to Dowling in a game like this

Has had a good season. Would be great to finish on a high.

Schoenberg has already qualified according to AFC site. Apparently, we have 19 AFL players qualified but are only allowed to play 16. (Un)fortunately, the three injuries take care of the three who miss.

beat me to it!!

Confirmed no Sloane this week or McAdam but they have 'moved on'
Nicks really didn't want to go there about the keays goal. I don't know why he finds it hard to say that we probably would have won if not for that umpire and the AFL not having a failsafe in place. He keeps talking about the misses at goal and first half but no team plays well for 4 quarters and you expect your goals to be counted as goals. In saying that we do need to get a lot better at goal kicking and not giving up score.

Disappointing. Dowling has something. Would be good to give a game to see the next level.
Also gives a player an idea what level they have to get to over the off season.

I just don't get this attitude. You'll forget a dead rubber win in like 5 minutes whereas our draft position has ramifications that could last years.

Why do people keep making this argument? The game against West Coast is now a dead rubber and matters not a single f&*$. The result has no bearing on whether we’d have made the 8 or not, and it’s not a question that can ever be answered after Saturday’s AFL-sanctioned debacle. We have nothing to play for (other than losing draft pick 6 and exchanging it for 9 if we win). Geelong have nothing to play for against the Bulldogs. Essendon have nothing to play for against Collingwood. There’s not an alternate universe where we beat the Swans and go into the West Coast game needing a win to make the 8 (barring the AFL suddenly deciding to replay our game against the Swans). Just this rubbish universe where a goal umpire behaved like a cocky twat and refused to send his blatantly wrong decision to the AFL review centre.

Whether we win or lose this week we can absolutely continue complaining about missing the 8. Dead-rubbers in footy are called that for a reason. They’re completely meaningless, and for the Crows this week that‘s a particularly galling thing to get their heads around, because their season should have been well and truly alive when they ran out against the Eagles.
It is in the AFL's interests that the Crows lose this final match, because it puts to bed any claim that we would have made the 8 but for the stuff up. If we lose, the fix is in!

Nicks said there wouldn't be a debut... so Dowling unlikely.
Listening to it, he was more coy about it. He didn't categorically say there wouldn't be a debut so I think there is a slight possibility. Got to let the marketing team do up a debut tweet and announce it tomorrow.

not sure if you know this or not, but there's 4 points on offer this weekend plus an opportunity for a % boost. Best team available and full throttle at the win, plus, round 24 isn't a good time to be piss-farting around with continuity credits.

As a supporter I’d enjoy seeing the Crows get up this weekend too. But the narrative that we ‘wouldn’t have made the finals anyway’ if we lose is clearly false.
The "narrative" changes, week by week.
What's possible after Round 22 becomes impossible in Round 23 (and Rounds before that, looking ahead) and that's true for several teams. There's no 'true' or 'false' about it.
Essendon and Geelong were 'alive', before Round 23. Now they're kaput.
As of last Friday, 18/08/23, we needed to beat both Sydney and WC to finish 12-11, and have other results go our way to finish 8th.
At that time, we all knew we had to beat WC, contingent on also beating Sydney first.
Lose to Sydney ==> the narrative changes.

It's the outsiders, the Vics, the Crow-haters that will laugh at the Crows if they lose to WC this week. If the Club attempts some behind-closed-doors negotiations with the AFL after losing to WC, the AFL will say,
"You're JOKING arencha? Your mob couldn't even beat the WCE in the last game".
The dynamic of the game is different, for sure. A win won't get us into the 8. That's gone.
Nicks, the players, the Club and you and I have to deal with it as is. Nothing you or I could say will change it.

That's why we must hammer the Eagles this week, to be the best side out of the 8, with the best %, and the ability to claim definitely that we missed the 8 because of the Sydney loss (AND the high hit on Dawson that was not called).
The loss that wasn’t against the Swans definitively ruled us out of contention heading into the final round, rendering the result against West Coast this weekend entirely meaningless. How can you compare the result of a now dead-rubber to a live match with finals on the line? You can’t, and you’re better off ignoring anyone who claims otherwise. We missed the 2023 finals off the back of Saturday night’s mistake. End of.
We were 10-11 going into the last 2 Rounds.
Our Ladder position at the time was as a result of that Win-Loss record and %.
You and others want to ignore the 11 losses, the poor goalkicking/mystifying selection/the big leads that got eaten away into losses etc and blame it all, ALL OF IT, on that mistake.
I can tell from your writing that you're too smart to really believe that and I'm mystified as to why you're fixated on it. It's an accumulation of factors, not just one.
