Welsh 12 goals in 3 games.

Perrie 1 goal in 3 games.

And yet Perrie gets the nod, despite the fact that he can barely bend down and he's badly lacking speed, and Welsh has been playing great for the Bloods. Unbelievable.
What are you talking about?

Welsh is a certainty - named to play FF, with Roo out.

I was talking about both Bock & Perrie who were named on the bench as possible replacements for Hentschel if required.

1. It was a joke.

2. He gets destroyed at SANFL level? You’ve lost any credibility you had, and I bet you’ve rarely, if ever, seen Meesen play this season.

Actually Skipworth's form in the SANFL has been quite ordinary; he went a few matches without even getting 20 possessions. Douglas had 34 possessions three weeks back, 24 a fortnight ago and happened to have a quiet one last week. It’s all about timing; there was a spot open because Burton got injured and Douglas had a poor game, while Skipworth had a ripper.
Also we need seasoned players, Skippy has done it at AFL level while Douglas has not. It is too risky to risk blooding youngsters when we are in Finals mode.

Do the Crows usually play games with the SANFL sides? If not why are all 6 ins not in their SANFL sides - McLeod, Hentschel and Biglands all to miss and Clarke to ruck solo?

presumably because they are all injury related. if they are not playing for the crows this week, then they wont be playing at all.

And IMHO Douglas would give us a better chance than if Skipworth was playing.

Do you remember the 97 grand final?

The AFC had a 19 year called Kane Johnson playing...
and IMHO you are way off beam. Skippy continues to play well in the SANFL when he is not a travelling emergency and he has ggod skills. It's a bit late for Douglas this year but his time will come. Have a look at the nember of young "stars" out injured this year. I think some clubs don't protect their young bodies as well as they should.

Skip played something like 3 SANFL games in 7 or 8 weeks through travelling as an emergency with the team and one for hamstring soreness... Not much of an opportunity to press for selection, and when he has been with the Eagles he's played well. Deserves a chance this week with the absence of Roo and Burton.

Yep:thumbsu:

Skipworth may or may not be in good SANFL form, but his lack of pace for a small and lack of kicking penetration makes him a non-event at AFL level, and these are the reasons he's in and out of the side.

I don't see any evidence he's improved in these areas so why would this week be any different?

Numerous times Crows changes have not been obvious by SANFL selection. Many players have been listed as outs from their SANFL side yet they still line up for them.

Looks like the 'Tiser is saying McLeod for Hart, Welsh for Ricciuto and Skipworth for Burton.

Key forward Trent Hentschel, who was tested by fitness coach Stephen Schwerdt at Max Basheer Reserve yesterday, will have to prove he has overcome a back complaint.

And ruckman Rhett Biglands will have to re-assure his coaches he is not at risk of a hamstring injury.

The consequence of this uncertainty is significant. Craig needs insurance policies - and last night he called key position player Nathan Bock, key forward Ian Perrie and defender Jason Torney out of the SANFL to be on standby.

Questionable is whether any of Bock, Perrie or Torney will be released for SANFL action tomorrow or kept on ice in case of a last-minute need by the Crows for the 12.40pm clash with the finals-bound Dockers.

So if Hentschel drops out, Bock would once again be his replacement (my opinion).
If Biglands drops out, do we risk a fine and bring in Maric/Meesen or do we rely on someone else to do the ruckwork. McGregor and Stevens are probably the next two tallest in the side after the ruckmen, and would it really matter considering they won't get close to Sandilands height. Pity Burton isn't playing or he could have gone into the ruck Ormond-Allen style.

Or do we concede the ruck and rove to Sandilands?

And Douglas had 34 touches and 4 goals 2 months ago. Then got injured.

Craigy wants to 'develop the list'. Come on Neil!

Skippy is ahead of Douglas. Skippy played some very good games last year and has been on the fringe of the team all year

You don't blood a teenager four weeks from finals.

Good to see you back posting on this forum. There aren't a lot of Skippy fans around here so I feel like I've been flying the flag myself. :p :D

Welsh all set; McLeod likely
12:17:16 PM Fri 11 August, 2006
afc.com.au

Scott Welsh is a confirmed starter for the Crows on Sunday and coach Neil Craig is confident Andrew McLeod will also be ready to return.

Adelaide will not finalise its 22 to face Fremantle until after Saturday morning’s training run as it waits on tests for McLeod (foot), Trent Hentschel (back) and Rhett Biglands (hamstring).

But it seems almost certain McLeod will be back just 20 days after having surgery to remove a bursa from his foot, the speedy return even surprising Craig.

“We sort of budgeted for three, possibly four weeks, but the healing process has been much, much quicker, obviously, he said.

“And Andrew trained on Wednesday and did pretty much the full session apart from the last ten minutes.

“At this stage it looks pretty good. He will need to train on Saturday morning to just get the final check on that but at this stage we are pretty confident he will be available.

Hentschel and Biglands did not train on Wednesday but Craig said he would be surprised if they did not play: “They need to do some more work tomorrow morning just to be absolutely sure.”

Welsh, the Crows’ leading goalkicker last season, has not played an AFL game this season because of a stress fracture in his leg and then quad injuries.

He has played the past four games in the SANFL with West Adelaide and Craig said he deserved his chance.

“He’s been good Scott. He’s been patient and he actually now looks in good physical condition, which is important,” Craig said.

“And his form in the SANFL has been very good. So the way it’s turned out it’s appropriate for him to come back in and he’s earnt the opportunity to come back in also. So we look forward to Scott playing, and our supporters I’m sure will also look forward to seeing him back on the ground again.”

Spot on.

Ladhams used to dominate at SANFL level too and he was a waste of space in the AFL.

I agree and I am an Eagles fan. In fact I think Skippy will be delisted from the team at the end of the year, who else could it be?? He has been around for a while now!

WHat a crap example.

Despite of what you might think Ladhams was one of the most talented players on our list and if you talk to people at the club that were there in Chris' time, they would tell you the same thing. Ladhams' failure has absolutely nothing to do with his actual football ability but its rather others aspects that were severely lacking.

Ladhams has played some brilliant games for us both as a small crumbing HF and a midfielder. Pitty he didn't have the attitude to go with his talent.

Skippy is quite the opposite. He doesn't have anywhere near the talent that Ladhams has but he has work ethic that allows him to get the absolute best out of his somewhat limited ability.

For such a heck, its interesting that he has either been in the Crows side or been an emergency for every week this year that he hasn't been injured. Come finals time, I would prefer the experienced players than kids with potential.

Ladhams has never played a brilliant game for the Crows! And neither has Skippy. I think Porplyzia is doing better than Skipworth at the moment.

Oh my how some have short memory

Here is a simple question for you, how won the game for us last year against the Kangaroos at Footy Park?

I am not going to go any further back than that, but I am sure I could blow your claim right out of the water when it comes to whether on not Ladhams has ever played a billiant game for us. There was a real purple patch of 8 or so week going back 3-4 years.

I knew you would bring that one up. One goal he got which bounced back better than a Warney wrong 'un and 2 he sharked off the back of the pack. Good play yes but not brilliant. He is still only a fringe player and he would have to be a strong chance to be delisted this year.

He couldn't have been that bad considering he picked up 3 brownlow votes in that game ;)

I never argued that he is more than a fringe player or that he will or will not be delisted. I am arguing against people who think he is useless. If he was useless he wouldn't be on the verge of getting a game every week.

Wow. I never thought I'd meet an Adelaide fan who was also an admirer of Chris Ladhams. Replace "talented" with "arrogant despite all evidence to the contrary" and you'd be closer to the mark.

When Neil Craig took over full time in 2005 Ladhams didn't get a single senior game despite excellent form in the SANFL. That was where my comparison came from rather than any physical/ability similarities between the two. NC and the coaching staff had obviously put a line through Ladhams name in 2005. I thought they would have done the same with Skipworth by now. Obviously not.

Are you really using that in your argument against him? What I would give to have someone shark two goals off the back of a pack. It's been a while since we've had someone who can do that. Skippy isn't really that sort of player but he was nothing short of brilliant that day.
You conveniently didn't mention his other goal on that day which was 50m out with a swirling breeze and a wet ball. Well beyond his typical range but he slotted it through. That goal literally won the game for us too.
Yes, he probably might get delisted this year but that is probably more indicative of the strength of our list because I can say with some certainty that if he entered the PSD he would get picked up by another club.

I dont know if McLeod will play.Does him being named in the starting 18 lead to a fine if he doesnt play? Torney to run his flank

Welsh is FF with Hentschel next to him. Play McGregor at CHF with Perrie on the bench to swap with KMac. Skipworth on the bench for a midfield rotation with VB starting

I agree with you for the most part, but he do you suggest drop out to be replaced by Skippy?
