First thing this makes me think is "According to what standards, and who sets them?"

According to regular testing and/or results.
No links, but I think it was Australian data I was looking at.

 

[Pessimistic]

The Government should push towards a widespread International Baccalaureate rollout in schools.

Getting the government the hell out would be a good move. Too much culture curriculum and pet techniques (phonics etc)warfare which, lets face it, bores the arses of kids anyway.

I like the call for the need to move on from an industrialised society when some schools and tertiary places are still geared up to produce university professors.

Also kids carrying computers around as well as another persons weight in books and still mainly handwriting work when the adult world has moved on seems well extremely stupid

Why does phisiotherapy need y12 maths btw?
