I can't recall for sure, but I think I feel as though I've only ever seen you post on topics like board movements, voting, guernseys, logos, and generally deferring to those in authority.Am I allowed to not like it? I think with solid maroon at the top, and then solid white at the bottom, and then solid white pants, it just looks odd - the whites run on too much, and since it's not primarily white like the adelaide's new one, I just don't think it works. In daylight games, the lion won't work either. Yellow on white wasn't a good choice. If only we could get them to play under carefully controlled photo studio lighting like Rich is in in the shot above...
Even if you didn't like the paddlepop, at least with the white on top and the maroon below, it broke it up nicely.
I can understand why they did it this way, same as I can understand the reasoning for the paddlepop and bringing back the old Fitzroy lion, but I don't overly like any of them... Ah well - maybe sometime down the track the club will have a jersey I like... I doubt it, but I can always hope...
I suggested something similar about a year ago in the hubbub of the Lions Roar movement, but got shouted down. Then I suggested a gorilla, and got shouted down again.I'm a bit of a soft c**k, as Blighty once said I actually couldn't give a rats tossbag if the club decided to play in maroon and blue polka-dots, again, that's just my opinion, each to their own hey?
Looks like a weird cartoon rather than an emblem :/
Particularly a fan of the watermark in this design on the maroon areas.
What a great throwback.
Wait. Nutella's not healthy?!In other news, The Lion's Roar killed Kennedy, faked the moon landing and were the architects of the scheme to market Nutella as healthy.
Ribena?Wait. Nutella's not healthy?!
Lol. Cheers Haso. Sorry - I know i can be long-winded.I can't recall for sure, but I think I feel as though I've only ever seen you post on topics like board movements, voting, guernseys, logos, and generally deferring to those in authority.
Do you have a football related opinion regarding the football club that we both support? And is it positive? Because I've not seen either from you.
Before you respond:
1. No, I'm not saying you can't only post on those topics, and
2. No, you don't have to have a positive thought about anything
Just curious. Feel free to leave a long-winded, negative reply.
I have to give you kudos spot, that was actually a good response.Lol. Cheers Haso. Sorry - I know i can be long-winded.
I don't post much - it's true. I usually post to ask questions or post opinions. I don't like posting for the sake of posting though. I've posted positive and negative questions and opinions on drafts and trades, as I find forums a decent source of info and discussion on drafts and trades. I was quite positive on the Beams and Patfull trades... harder to notice though, as most on here were. I don't post a lot about footy games, because I prefer to chat with a few mates on the couch rather than post on forums about it.
I do post a lot on corporate governance and board makeups, etc, as it is my work. I work in finance and accounting, and have filled several roles around governance and business consultancy. I'm also a company director and secretary - nowhere near the size of an AFL club though. I try not to, but often get sucked into posting when I read a majority opinion that I believe is significantly misinformed. Unsurprisingly, this happens quite a bit on forums dedicated to football. The 'deferring to authority' thing is a bit harsh - I'm in favour of not judging things before you actually understand what's happened, which is hard to do. A great example is the Springfield deal. Was the Springfield deal a way to line their own pockets, or was it actually the opposite - the directors had the ability to get a better deal there? I don't know, and I'm not going to assume the worst. I'm not going to assume the best either, which is why I haven't really commented on the training facility. The jumper - for one I think the old lion is dated. For two I think the paddlepop lion was a deliberate marketing strategy that had merit, even if it didn't greatly tickle my fancy. In a non-football state, I think targeting kids was a smart move, as opposed to Victoria, where tradition as a marketing strategy works, because you are targeting the progeny of existing members.
If you want a football opinion though... I was surprised by Stef Martin in the end of the year, but I still rate Leuey as our best ruck. I thought Robertson showed some very good glimpses, and am looking forward to seeing his development. I thought Patfull deserved his first B&F, but not his second. I'll be very interested to see how Rich goes next year, as I think Rocky and Hanley both overtook him, and so freed up a bit, we could be in for a treat. I think GAJ deserved the be All-Aust this year, and more deserving than Priddis of the Brownlow, such was the quality of his first half of the year.
Most of those opinions aren't unique, and adding them to any thread will contribute nothing - especially given that, while I enjoy football, and can chat about it, it's not something I have any special expertise on over anyone else here. And if I don't think sharing something will contribute to a conversation, I don't, so most of them I haven't.
Cheers mate - appreciate it. One team, many opinions I suppose.I have to give you kudos spot, that was actually a good response.
Always.Cheers mate - appreciate it. One team, many opinions I suppose.
Looks very good in this photo
Have to disagree on the watermark. For me, the watermarks on all of the new guernseys make things just a bit too 'busy'.
However, the old Lion is a vast improvement on Paddlepop, and I reckon the clash guernsey will grow on me too.
Interesting thought TFB. In my work, I work almost exclusively with for-profits. I would agree that there, profit is a driving force, and maximising that profit is key. Outside of work though I also do the books and provide a bit of advice for a charity working with the poor. In fairness, it's not a sporting organisation, I'm not a director, and I don't attend board meetings - I prepare the books and reports for the CEO. Despite their aims (which are absolutely not profit based), finance is a huge factor for them. It affects the number of centres they can operate and workers they can employ. The board consists of business leaders, a politician or two, and the CEO. None of their workers or volunteers attend (except the office manager to take minutes), neither are the people they serve - we have no homeless people on the board.Good response spotthedog1 .
It seems you're commenting from the perspective of boards that oversee financial operations. I'm assuming these are companies set up purely to make money. Do you see the distinction between those kind of setups and sporting clubs where, sure, there's a large financial component to things, but for the shareholders (in this case specifically the members and to a lesser extent non-member supporters) that the dividend so-to-speak isn't financial, but emotional? Hence the guernsey debate. Hence the possibility of having someone on the board who more of a conduit to the members and supporters.
