I don't mind the trade, it's something different. Perhaps he turns it over a bit but at the same token we have Salem doing safe boring kicks all the time. Atleast CJ may create run from the backline.

I’ve warmed to this one.

Effectively Spargo for Jiath is an upgrade no matter what way you look at it. Unless you have a fetish for short, injured players who can’t kick very far.

Also good to have a proper athlete in the backline to cover off some of the quicker players getting out the back with Snailem still probably playing every game

I Think its a good trade for you guys.

He brings speed, energy, defensive pressure, solid defence and marking. He is good enough to play but i think Impey and Amon have one of his spots.

Can play lock down, can rebound, good for an intercept.. and can play a bit taller if needed.

He is a decent enough kick.. the only issue with him is the occasional bad clanger. Think frost, but not as bad.

He has played plenty of high class games and is AFL quality easily with some really good attributes.

Great person, and highly loved by all his teammates.

Tom Bugg right at the start!

Highlights always look good but the pace out of the backline will be a pleasant change.

A few nice passages where he showed courage in the air too.

None of his kicks looked great. Executed a few nice ones but AFL standard stuff really.

He is actually very good in the air for a small. Kicking is not great and he can make some stupid decisions but at his best he can be a slightly better version of Hunt IMO

Finally, my obscure knowledge of Australian-made animated shows on the ABC has some use!

CJ is an 'almost' player. Elite speed and athleticism, sensational aerialist (rarely), can run and run and run. He relies HEAVILY on his athleticism to win the ball.

His kicking is average (at best), his anticipation and composure is poor - at 25 he still plays like a recent draftee and seems to struggle with the speed/intencity of the game. It's why Hawthorn put him up on the wing - his greatest attributes (speed/coverage on turnover) enabled us to play far more attacking/aggressive options around him (and he covered our SLOW onball group).

He's only 6'1, but defensively plays far taller - perhaps let down by poor body strength, but his man-on-man defence needs work. He needs to play loose and run/jump AT the ball. Offensively he's a pure receiver - will back fearlessly into a pack for a defensive spoil....then timidly hesitate to reach for the ground ball.

Not a shutdown small IMO. Could be the offensive role we used him as, but always looked like he doesn't understand the congestion well enough. Regularly gets 'lost' covering poor options (for example, runs boundary side of the contest, letting his opponent run unmarked past the pack on the inside/goal side).

I've spent five years waiting for it to click, and him to elevate to AA level. He has the physical abilities. In a simpler gameplan, with clear tasks and opportunity to exploit his athleticism, he could be a weapon.
