Andy D said today that he has no power over the TV networks to get them to show games live. I would have thought as the owner of the product you can say "if you don't plan on showing every game live, don't even worry about bidding".

With 3 stations I think Andy could play hardball and have the entire viewing public behind him at the same time and 7 would find a slot available me thinks.....3 channels and 2 shows (AFL & BHG) aint hard to get going.

They're saying that if Demetriou tells 7 they have to show the AFL live they'll decrease their bid, and we all know how money hungry Demetriou is so he's getting pissy about it, but it's unlikely he'll do anything about it.

As a rule I agree with you. Although I do like some of the sitcoms and 32 has been good for foreign flicks which sbs had been cutting down on before HD. You get some value out of some of the ABC shows too. Not great but not everyone can afford pay tv. Too much tv isn't a good thing anyway.

I was specifically talking about the three commercials. ABC and SBS both have excellent quality programming, although ABC3 has decided to employ program hosts who seem to all suffer from ADHD and take speed at the same time for their afternoon viewing time slot. People wonder why the young kids carry on like nut-cases? Look no further than the TV set.
More than once I have turned off whatever my 5 yo was watching because the hosts were carrying on like mental patients and I'd prefer my kids to have half a brain. For the record the 5 yo is out the back playing dress-ups in the yard...much better for the brain and body.

I get the whole economic reality of delayed telecasts, but the extent of the delay up here is ridiculous. I can accept them not showing the game live and holding it back til after 10pm, but to start the telecast at Midnight is stupid! Now I know you're all wondering what the visual feasts Ch7 requires that the game be held back til midnight so let me share with you the magnificance of Ch7

Damn straight! Channel 7 are responsible for me feeling like sh!t today because i was up til the wee hours watching the game. I don't want to record it and watch it the next day, i want to feel as though i'm atleast some part of it by watching it on the same calendar day.

Although it likely to be a game they will at least show live into Melbourne, being as it is likely to be in Perth vs West Coast.

But you just know they will **** up the coverage nation wide somehow.

Some relief may come for those with Foxtel, as I'm almost certain they have equal rights to the game next week, meaning they will show it live, even up against Channel Seven.

Just heard a rep from Channel 10 state that they cannot go live on a Saturday (during the season) without the AFL permission. Channel 7, well they are a diferent breed. Apparently they can go live but choose not to. By not going live they can slot in as many ads as possible.

To delay a NAB cup match by 90 mins is a joke. I for one can only show my obection but refusing to watch and just listen to the match on radio.

Perhaps one way of getting our message across is via the TV station's sponsors. If we petition them and state that we will not purchase their products for supporting the TV station this may change the status quo. I am sure it is not just us Colling wood supporters that feel this way.

Yep, 7 are shit, but it seems the AFL are going to put money ahead of it's fans once again, and sign up with 7 and 10 on the same 4 game deal (Foxtel will get the other 5) in a few weeks time.

All I can say is hopefully Foxtel get more Collingwood games under the new agreement, because Seven simply will not show live Friday Night or Sunday games.

And I hope they get bugger all foxtel because I am not going to pay $60 a month throughout the year for a bunch of channels with crap programs. If you get foxtel just for footy, you are effectively paying double that amount just for the footy, as it is useless the other 7 months of the year.

No one would buy Foxtel just for the footy, you are right there, it isn't worth it.

But I'd be surprised that anyone who actually has Foxtel is just an "AFL" fan.

Before I had Foxtel, I hardly watched or followed any NBA, MLB, NHL, NFL, EPL, A-League, Tennis, Golf or the numerous other sports that simply aren't covered on free to air TV.

For pure "sports lovers", like me, Foxtel is a must IMO.

I looked into getting Fox this week. $100 per month for HD Sports package. Screw that. $80 for SD package, which is pointless as i have a HD TV.

I had this conversation today at work (in Canada) and we could not imagine the NFL having a delayed telecast of Monday Night Football. Just would not happen no way no how.

It is the number one sport in a country that is mad about sport. The AFL needs to step in at some stage. And I don't believe that it is because of BHG either. Plenty of successful shows have moved timeslots before and you can't tell me that the people that watch BHG would suddenly stop watching it and boycott C7 if it got moved to a Wednesday Night. Christ Neighbours moved from 7 to 10 and did ok?? ADVERTISING and that is all it boils down to. Can't flood us with ads when it is live.

That is so expensive....I work (actually at work now) for the largest cable company in Canada and the cost for HD channels and the reciever is only $10 combined. (the reciever is also a recording reciever which lets me pause, rewind and fast forward live tv). You get 70 channels in HD as extra.

If you just want HD and a "normal" reciever so no recording or pausing and stuff it is only $4.95 per month.

If I could only get more AFL I would be even happier.
