Mega Thread Channel 7's Football Coverage

Can't wait for the footy to start up again, the one thing I'm not looking forward to is the shocking coverage on Channel 7. Their commentators are biased, and I think they really do a crappy job. Does anybody else agree???

Several things are a given when you watch a match on TV...

1) When the Swans and/or Kangaroos are playing and Brucie boy is commentating.... The opposition get a "lucky break" whereas the Swans and/or Kangaroos show "great skill"
Brucie just loves to growl... "CAAAAAARRRRRREEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYY" or "KEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYYYY", but ignores the star players of the opposition teams as if they are invisible...

2) Dennis Commetti has a LIKING for the Eagles - Doh

3) Graeme Cornes and Neil Kerley will show their bias to the South Australian teams every time (although Kerley will sometimes admit the opposition are playing well)

...All of these points add up to....

Yes, I believe that some (almost all) Channel 7 commentators show their bias on a daily basis..

The one stand out exception to the rule is SANDY ROBERTS....The man is great... He barracks for the GAME....not a particular team or player....They broke the mould with him, I'm afraid....

My two cents worth..

Actually I think Den hides his bias pretty well. It even seems occasionally that he's the other way (critical of us), but Í am completely one-eyed and biased of course!

'Robbo' is the worst offender by far, except he has a favorite state, rather than team.

At least Bruce now jokes about his Kangas obsession.

Channel Seven's football coverage and department will always be the best while Eddy reigns at Nine.

Rugby League and Union is on 9's main channel up here.

I'd love it if they simulcast the game on 7mate as well. I watched a bit of the rugby on gem last weekend and it looked brilliant compared to the footy on Seven. I can't change the shitty production values, but at least if it's in HD I can mute the commentary and chuck on 774.

They generally don't, at least I've never seen them do it throughout the year and certainly not the last few weeks. They've got two digital channel now, surely they can use one instead of a repeat of 'That 70's show'.

It was on 7mate here in Brisbane but the Adelaide v Fremantle game felt like it was on the main channel at times due to bad picture quality.

What was that crap camera angle behind Taylor Waller on half-time?? Couldn't even see if the goal went through it was that far away. Disgrace channel seven!!! the coverage has been so disappointing this season that topped it, can't wait what angles they got lined up for the Grand Final.

If you listen to his commentary from the 80's of Fox Footy Friday's it wasn't too bad.
So when did it change into the style he does now which is nothing more than a parody of himself?

It doesn't take much to be a better commentator than Brian Taylor.

Well say what you want about the saturday afternoon crew, atleast they are professional compared to this lot. Would prefer Basil, Hame & Tom over this lot tbh. Lingy deserves better.

Lie detector segment doesn't detract from the football - coverage starts at what, 6.30 these days? If you didn't want to watch the filler, start watching at 7.40. And usually they ask some funny/tough questions, like asking Gibbs "are you played out of position"

They need their ego's stroked - they do this by showing replays and talking through a passage of play.

What about Jetta chasing Dangerfield down! The hacks thought the ball had gone out of bounds but it had stayed in...they then showed a replay while the rest of the game continued.

It's amazing to think that in the past 20 years the quality of the coverage has deteriorated so much.

Basil is actually a pretty good commentator when he just sticks to calling the play but he tries too hard to be like Commetti, who is his mentor, by inserting wacky catchphrases.

Hamish aka Rompingwins is just a dud commentator end of story. He should be delisted from the Ch7 commentary box and stick to stuff he is good at like hosting Gameday and running over footy players dogs.

Can someone sow Brian Taylor's lips shut. What an arrogant, disrespectful, irritating piece of s***t he is. After interviewing Mike Pyke he comes up with "he only had five touches today" and "he's not doing that well". Pyke has been superb this year, Taylor is just fortunate he played in a weak era when fat f***s like him could get a kick. He wouldn't get near it in the modern era.
