The courier mail had an article in the paper today how channel seven are bidding for the WC rights in 2008 ,i think this will be fantastic if seven get the rights, instead of nine walking all over us all the time :D .Lets just hope it comes into fruition.:thumbsu:

I wouldn't hold my breath . . . it's more like ch.7 trying to push the price up so nein don't get them at a bargain price as the sole bidder.

btw...seven can stuff up a broadcast along with the best of them, eg. Australian soccer

there is a league world cup
Yes, there's been one since 1954. First final was France v GB in Paris. RL actually owns the rights to the name "Rugby World Cup", but our administrators are too stupid to use it to our advantage.

The rights for the WC we're not included in the new NRL deal as they are the property of the RLIF.That would mean that UK,OZ,NZ,FR,PNG, FIJI, TONGA would decide who gets the to obtain the rights for the RUGBY LEAGUE WORLD CUP COME 2008.

Interesting to note the new development in the media ownership rules in Australia.

Channel 7 (announced today) have taken on a private equity partner who have injected $4 billion into that organization. There could be benefits for ARL/NRL in this latest development.

At least they could force Channel 9 to pay more for the International component. The international RL games I don't think are covered by the present agreement -- the WC isn't anyway.

Just look at the uwc and other sports they have done, pathetic, could you imagine having to listen to bruce and co.
Seven would probably be willing to show most, if not all the games live across Australia. Nine would be reluctant to show more than about 2 games live in the tournament, and even then, it'd probably be only in NSW and QLD.

a different subject but related to this topic. is the cup only going to be hosted in sydney and brisbane or will it be spread out throughout the country including AFL states (WA, SA,etc). If the latter it could give a lot of exposure for league in those states and even could help the game to expand.

I would say it would most definitely be spread around the country, and matches could be held in NZ.

However, there are only going to be 15-25 matches depending on what format the RLIF decides for the 10 team World Cup.
