I guess it's a bit of an exception when this thread is 15 years old.

Not much has changed though has it. Which idiot said a week is a long time in football?

Channel 9 are already already heavily exposed to the NRL rights deal which despite the poor crowds has very successful viewing audience ratings.

AFL - 5 year deal, $1.25 billion agreement
2014 AFL GF: (Edit) 3.51 million viewers

NRL - 5 year deal, $1.025 billion agreement
2014 NRL GF: (Edit) 3.95 million viewers

To have a stronghold on both would potentially be an overload on resources while having one agreement is manageable. That is probably a minor reason compared to more high level issues.

Interesting. But the NRL is great for the TV. Less than two hours, action packed, atmosphere is great because they still to a degree have actual home stadiums, and it just is more enjoyable I'm finding.

Does anybody know the state of play with the AFL coverage agreement? In other words, when can Channel 9 get a shot at covering the sport. Channel 7 has had the game for too long. They take what should be a simple sport to cover and make it too complicated.

Their commentators are for the most part annoying and overexposed. I will put up with Bruce but how many chances do Sandy, Drew, Dipper, Couchy et al have?

Dermie needs to learn that his role is that of a commenatator - not an analyst. We all are pretty good analysts at home - we don't need another arrogant opinion.
I can't believe you singled out those commentators over Ling, BT, Darcy and Matthew "IQ of an apple" Richardson.

Bring back Drew Morphett

Were you intentionally skewing the viewing figures, or did you make a legitimate mistake?

I believe Channel 10 are going to bid for the rights next time around. Surely they can't do a worse job than Channel 7.

It truly is the peanut gallery in Ch7. I watch any of their broadcasts with disdain. From the bias calls to their fellow employees (Watson calling for Yarrans head on a pike at the MCC entrance yet Hodge is "nah that was an accident" get him off call cos he's a fellow Gameday employee) to the absolutely shite commentary by McLachlan, Zemplas, Ling, Darcy, Taylor and of late McAvaney. The naff "special" commentary is as as bad as anything Kirk did. "If you didn't notice, kicked the ball beautifully to the forward to set up the goal"... Yes this is an actual "special" comment repeated by the genius that is Cameron Ling.

Fox Footy has their own king of cringe Russell, but I'll take his crap with the rest of FF than the embarrassment to AFL that is everybody in the C7 box.

The epitome was the half time panel on Friday night... Ling, Lane, Darcy, Richardson and Molloy... Off the TV went

An hour of Lyon stand up is more bearable.

Well when the OP was posted Ling was just out of the Geelong Falcons footy factory, Darcy and Richo were still playing and BT was just starting out on radio

For those wondering how TEN could afford to make a winning bid as their debt continues building, there's a good chance Foxtel will inject some much needed money to tune of $85 mill into TEN which will account for the maximum allowed 14.9% share of the network. If this goes ahead then this should be able to encourage other investors to inject additional cash into TEN as it's believed more capital is req'd to turn the network around than just from Foxtel's investment.

Channel 7 is so bad. In a time where social media makes it almost impossible to avoid finding out the scores through twitter, facebook and a host of other ways, they still play Saturday and Sunday games a couple of hours delayed. I have foxtel so I don't mind but for people who don't it must be horrible.

Also, the first payment isn't until about mid-2016, so they will expect to have a bit more in the bank by then.

You have to do a complete social media blackout, as well as avoid checking your phone in case one of your mates ruins the result, such a farce.
