Slight tangent but did anybody think Astbury was absolutely woeful in the first half on Saturday?

Was being taught a lesson by VFL level forwards.

Big debate about it on the review/changes thread. I thought he looked poor. Some posters thought he was good. Guess we'll have to see more games from him to determine whether there's a spot. I'm not prepared to right him off just yet.

He moved well, looked composed, like an AFL player. Was just caught out of position a few times and hasn't quite adapted to the speed of the game. He's definitely worth persevering with imo, it's experience he lacks not talent.

Fair call - was caught out of position 3-4 times which lead to shots on goal though - we cant afford for this to happen in the bigger games... hopefully he continues to develop.

He was out of position because he's slow. Made Markovic look like a competent player, which he is definitely not.

Was more his reading of the play I felt, which comes with experience. Remember Rance was AWFUL once upon a time and had the masses all over his back (dud delist!) now we'd be a shambles without him. Astbury has all the tools and the right attitude, needs the game time.

That's a relief. I'd rest him this week. Dea, Bachelor or Griffiths in to look after Kosi. Rance has the tank to go with Jack's cousin, and no milne.

So far he's had Markovic and Jenkins and he's been beaten on both accounts. It might not show on the score board as they got poor delivery but he was constantly trailing both players by a good few metres. If he can't improve his speed during the off season he won't make it as a KPD. He busted up his knee which is a mitigating factor but slow is slow, and he's ****ing slow.

Has Todd elton even played well enough for a call up? Sending the wrong message if he gets selected.

He's looked good as a defender. QUICK, reads the play and a very good contested mark. I'd give him a go before Griff, as he knows how to play defense and win a 1v1.

How come he never gets a mention and I've never seen him in the bests for coburg. There's a few ahead of him at this stage

Does anyone see it panning out as a Collingwood-Richmond Elimination final.

Chaplin probably the bloke who we most need to rise as a player through the year for us to grab a victory and a second week.

The concept of Cloke bundling us out of the finals hurts more when you can remember pre-1983

He was in the bests in rd7 against port.

Once , still needs to do more for a call up. This isn't a personal thing I hope this guy gets up I just don't want players being rewarded ahead of others that have earned it more. Plus isn't he a forward?

Those first two sentences totally contradict each other

He moved well in that he looked unimpeded, fully fit; composed in that he didn't fumble and hurriedly flop kicks on to his boot.
He was caught out positioned by his direct opponent on occasion, and he wasn't completely there with the pace of the game - to be expected from someone coming back from injury and just being reintegrated into the senior side. My point was that he didn't look out of place, not that he excelled.

Doesn't help when the oppo gets 100 inside 50's a week. Does a good job week in week out without dominating.

Have done a predictor about 3 times and everything suggest Rich v Coll certainty for week one of the finals. Unless the wheels fall off Essendon or Freo, its a monty.
