That's a no from me, it is an area we are stacked in and he missed half a season with injury yet again. Pods is the same age and gives us depth in an area we are shaky in and would probably come cheaper.

Chapman has played 19 games or more in every season since 2003, apart from last season. The area we are not stacked in is mental toughness when it counts. We have a grand total of two players who stood up big time on the day it counted.

If we don't do anything to address this situation and the same thing happens next season we are in big trouble. It doesn't matter about money Chapman would cost very little and so what if we pay over the odds. I'd rather not be in the position of saying "We could have won that Premiership but at least we saved ourselves $100,000".

I don't buy this ... Player A, B, C and D all had shockers in this Grand Final but you just wait till next years Grand Final and they'll be better for the run, argument.

I'm not against getting Pods either. I'd go for him too.

I'd rather play Chappy than Ballaz after his horrific GF effort.
It's true that Colin and Chappy would play the same role.. If it was a final, would rather have Chappy playing it

I've got no qualms admitting that Chapman is one of my favourite players of the last decade. He is such a mentally and physically tough player, very skilful and will always make any team he plays on better for all sorts of reasons. But I just don't think he'd be worth it for us. I know, in hypothetical world, I would have loved him in the team in the GF - as posted earlier, he probably would have made all the difference that's how good he is.

But on the other hand you've got back the team as a whole in that they'll be better for it. Balla aside, they all came out and played a solid Grand Final quality second half. Getting one player to fix a perceived problem rather than an actual one just doesn't sound right for me. A few years ago, for sure, with bells on I'd take him. But at this stage of things, I think it would be unnecessary.

Don't think Chapman's required, but would massively enjoy this aspect . Such a smug and arrogant mob.

Y'know I'm beginning to get a sense superiority.
I don't give a toss what other clubs' supporters think of us now.
Smugness and arrogance may have been the case when they played Fremantle ; I bet it isn't from now on.

Players like Neale could overtake him anyway if he hasn't already done so.

Nah, Chapman is far beyond his best. Freo arguably have the best midfielders and small-med forwards in the competition. Syvia is already the slight top up

Sylvia is the slight top up for what ? He's a midfielder who gets 19 possessions a game (in 2013 which is above his career ave of 17). That was an improvement on 2012 when he averaged 17. In which team other than Melbourne, could you even hold your place with those numbers ?

If Sylvia takes anyone's spot it will almost certainly be someone who finds more of the ball than him.

I don't get it. Chapman is one of the greats end of story.

Chapman WAS one of the greats. End of story.

Chapman doesn't address a need at Freo like Pods/Riewoldt/KPF type would. Not required.

It's not a case of either/or. I'm sure Chapman and Neale could both play in the same team. Perhaps Chapman could teach him a thing or two. I can't see why we are not going after Chapman.

They could play in the team together but I'd be disappointed if Neale, Crozier, Sutcliffe and Sherro miss because of Chapman who is on the decline while they are on the up.

Ross has given these young guys a good amount of games these past 2 seasons and it needs to continue for Freos list to continue to develop.

An area we are possibly lacking in is leadership on the field. That's why Simon Black, Lenny Hayes and Jonathan Brown keep on going around. These guys offer more than what they do themselves.

Our best leaders aren't in the leadership group and the ones's in our leadership group were lacking when the heat was on.

Yes, that's working a treat for Brisbane.

Geez Cam leave Ballas alone. He helped get us to a GF, we're all in this together. Chapman is a bona fide champion just at the end of his career. Ballas will run rings around Chapman next year and until he retires.

Chapman and Black each got far more of the ball that Sylvia last season and will do next season as well. If the main reason we are not going after Chapman is because we got Sylvia it's warped logic. You need depth. Players will be rested throughout the season. We have to look at our best 28 not our best 22.

OMG can we please get off Ballas case for a moment? He did not single handedly loose the GF for us, nor would Chappy be our saviour.

Enough said!

Sylvia has been brought in because of what he can do with the ball. Freo already have accumaltors.

Do you have next weeks winning lotto numbers as well?

Serious question Cam - why? I would settle for flags in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

They are very hard to win. When you have a chance you have to take it.

We are doing some great things BUT we have a different culture from Hawthorn. The salary cap means that things are different in the AFL the great sporting teams go all out to win next tears flag. In the EPL there is no standing still. In the NFL teams have sacked winning Super Bowl coaches.

In 2015 there will be no Pavlich, Sandilands, McPharlin. This grinding defensive style wears players out too. Collingwood and the West Coast were the best defensive teams for a year or so but it's hard to maintain.

Winning premierships can be habit forming. Losing them can be habit forming too.

We are favourites for next years flag but it's Hawthorn who seem to be active not us.

Sam Mitchell was a Premiership captain but people at Hawthorn thought that someone else (Luke Hodge) should replace him after they lost a semi to us a couple of years ago.

They (Hawthorn) got Stuart Dew because they thought he would have the body needed in a Grand Final. They were right. He won them the GF in a six minute burst.

They (Hawthorn) got Brian Lake because they thought he would win them a GF. They were right. He was the difference a week ago and he won the Norm Smith.

Light bodies don't cut it in Grand Finals anymore.

Our recruitment model is restricted to players younger than 28. It precludes any stunts like bringing Stuart Dew out of retirement or recruiting Brian Lake which won the Hawks 2 premierships.

Well, we had a chance this year and we didn't take it, does that mean that we fold up our tent and go home?

We have taken enormous strides in the last two years to go from 13th to 6th then to second. I have no reason to believe that the recruitment and coaching staff will take their eyes off the ball now. They have got a lot of things right in the last two years, let's give them the benefit of the doubt for this draft period.

Have faith Cam.
