Hey watching the past few geelong games and chappy looks a good suit for your forward problem (not that its that big)

i know he usually plays closer to there but

permanent kpp forward?? i have no doubt he could get about 70-80 goals a season playing there

his body strenth is astounding very hard to nudge him out and he doesnt mind flying every now and then

would this be an option or is he to important to elswhere in geelongs game plan??

KP forward? no. dude is 5'10.

Umm, Chappy has played most of his career as a lead up/small forward to great success, however his return to fitness has seen him push up the ground to devastating effect, so I think he will be sticking with that and we will leave Hawkins and Mooney to develop some chemistry as our two key forwards.

I have to admit, I'm a little concerned that he's playing this well this early.

I'm not suggesting anything should be done, but it crossed my mind once or twice last Thursday night, '...what's he going to look like @ round 22, is he pushing too hard now?'

I know that anything can happen injury wise. It was just an involuntary thought.

See my thinking is now he is healthy, coupled with the drive he has, by seasons end will will be ripping teams apart with Gaz.

Gaz at fullback and Scarlo in the ruck sounds promising too.

Byrnes can go into the ruck. Of course he's likely to win the tap out, rove his own ball, speed into the forward line with a couple of bounces and kick the ball straight to his direct opponent :)

The usual customers (including Chappy) will rotate through the forward line, Steve Johnson will rotate through the midfield.

Chappy is good enough to play that Brad Johnson type role if worst comes to worst but given he's a sensational kick, I'd prefer him kicking it into the forward line and nailing goals from 50 rather than hanging around the goal square.

Whilst I'd agree initially, that he is the missing component in our team, I'm unsure if he would 'fix' our forward issues. He is so much more than that as shown on the weekend. Extremely strong in packs and willing to throw himself into it, means that he is just more than a forward.

He is an onballer, whom like Ablett will rest in the forward line and kick loads of goals. He wasn't healthy at all last year and really struggled. Looks different this year and ready to rock.

naa its grat he is up and firing early. When he won the B&F he was great all year.

THats the benefit of a full pre season. He said it himself he is fit for the first time since 06

& he ripped it up in 06. Was the lone shining light from a pretty poor year.

If Chappy, Ablett & Stevie J continue like this, we are going to be EXTREMELY dangerous when the others start to hit their straps. To think Big Cam didn't have a pre-season. Joel Selwood has been dazed a little bit from that hit in round 1, started to work out of it against the pies. Bartel isn't firing yet, but will. Plus Varcoe & Hawkins are starting to look like they fit & will only get better with confidence.

I can't wait to see what we do in 09 once all our pistons are pumping!

Mate, he always plays like that. He was kicking your butt in round 17 last year until he did a hammy, and was limited by an injury in the grand final and was largely ineffective as a result. When he's fit, he's the barometer of our side, pure and simple. When he's firing, the team tends to play well.

Nice to see you've finally realised his worth to our side though.

Must admit I had a good chuckle at that. :D:thumbsu:

chappy deserves an AA spot this year.. He has played good in patches over the years but always had hammy problems.. If he stays fit this year look out 15 other clubs.

He's effectively been a pseudo CHF for most of his career.

I know people don't like Chappy and SJ pushing too far up the ground, and I'm one of them, but I wonder if it is a deliberate tactic to break the flood/zone/cluster. If they play deep they can be swamped and swallowed up by the extra players but running through the midfield they can go forward and punch through the holes in the zone.

As dumb as it sounds ....... no its as dumb as it sounds.

To be fair I know what you mean , for his height he is strong overhead and is built like a brick doghouse , and most importantly he is great setshot. But you still need height and size to be the main target thus he is better suited to roving the spill or being on the lead as a "Power-small". The other consideration as you have refered to , at his best he is important to us elsewhere.

The way the game is played now, players who have great touch by foot , players who have the ability to pass it low, hard and accurately, players who have the ability to kick it round the corner to target are vital in the midfield and Chappy can do this as well as anyone.

For mine , when he is up and going the more time he can spend on the ball , the more time we will have precise passes coming inside the 50.The Cure, no but he is another dimension to our setup that was missing in the finals last year

In ways Chapman can be like Judd in the way that he can lift the team spirit. When Chapman plays well you can see and notice how the team lifts. And if he can do that consistently I would love to see him be captain for the next 2 years. But it’s too hard to make a decision like that because we are a great team regardless.

Seems like it could be a deliberate tactic alright. Good observation!:thumbsu:

fair enough but mate........

stop being so F**king humble i dont think you midfeild would hurt without chapman in it

ITS THE FREAKING BEST IN THE COMP

it dominates everyteam (most times;)) im sure hmm lets see

abblett
selwood
ling
enright
just to name a few

wouldnt mind if he played a permanent forward role

so your saying you need a good kick in your team? to pass it to players im pretty sure chapman isnt the only one who is good at it at geelong??
