Is he coaching there yet??

Just the fluffer I think.

Don't get me wrong, I love Lingy, I loved him as a player, I loved him as a captain, I reckon he's a top bloke, but I think the media have gotten hold of him and how pro-Geelong he was early and now he is doing a Tom Harley and being way over the top the other way.
It's interesting because if you ever run into him on the street or whatever he still bleeds blue and white, he's just a bit of a knob on the TV.

Yeah, I think that, like Sam Newman who presents as Sam and as John Newman, there's a "Lingy" and a "Cameron Ling" and they are totally different personalities. Of course, to his family and good friends, he's probably something else entirely. :) We all have many different faces- I guess as long as he sleeps well at night, he can be whatever he wishes to be to whoever he likes... it's just that some of us don't like one of the personalities that he presents.

Maybe next time I criticise him, I should identify him as the Ch7 Cameron Ling, rather than the GFC "Lingy".

On Tim McGrath saying that Chapman wasn't "right" that night.

I read in the paper that apparently, that night was the one year anniversary of Paul Chapman's brother dying in a car accident. As such, Chappy was a little upset, since he was close to his brother, and didn't feel like going out, so his teammates stayed back at the hotel to support him.

Also, the article said that the original plan was for the club to go to a nightclub that night- the Sari Club. Of course, that night the club was blown up in the Bali Bombings.

I remember thinking that, in one way, by Chappy's brother dying one year earlier, it actually saved the lives of not only Paul Chapman, but all his teammates as well, since they would have been at the Sari Club otherwise. So, if not for his brother's death one year earlier, it might have been Paul Chapman and co who died one year later instead. Eerie.
I read the same thing; i think some posters are trying to imply Chappy was scared to go out, but bluey indicated that the not going out that night was decided before the blast. Chappy i suspect will feel regret like alot of others there at the time for not doing more. I also suspect that Bali events and his brother dying made hime grow up pretty quickly and become a less self focussed player and person. Lets face most younge men are often self focussed. But then you grow up and boy did chappy make a difference not long after this period.

It was mentioned when Bluey was on 'Open Mike' that Chappy was a bit off and they were with him... then nothing else was mentioned.

We happened to run into Mike Sheehan at Lord of the Isles after the Sydney game (he was with Brian Cook) and asked him about that, je confirmed it was the anniversary of Chappys brother passing and the Cats boys all stayed in with him

AFL player autobiographies can be pretty painful, I made the mistake of reading Wayne Carey's book a few years back and to quote Howard Moon from The Boosh 'That's not a novel, that's the scribbling's of a r3tard.'
That is really funny blightyscats!!! :)

Haven't read the thread, but I feel a golden book title opportunity missed. "Chappy: Believe it or not"...average.

Ok, I would have preferred something along the lines of "The Chappy Pact"

Even if there was no pact.

I love chappy's honesty, i'd say there's no harm done between him and SJ just a clash of two very strong personalities. Did chappy move away from geelong/torquay when he played for essendon ? would love to see him back around the club again [emoji7] [emoji836] [emoji838] [emoji836] [emoji838]

Has anyone got this yet? The other autobiography I'm hoping to get is the Phil Collens one. (No, not Phil Collins). Does anybody have that one either?

Phil Collens from Def leopard?
Has my mother used to say def Sheppard lol.

Reading Chappys book now. Only a few chapters in but it's a pretty irritating read so far, it jumps around at random. Chappy starts talking about a game in 2004 and then starts talking about 2007, then 2010 etc etc. It's a little bit like 'oh and that reminded me of this time, which was a lot like this other time, which reminds me of when this happened'.

And? Out of 10?
See I enjoy all books from a players perspective, but the quality of the writing would have to be a 4...

As for the enjoyment levels. Quite high.

Chappy is going to have some familiar company in the WRFL - Shagga Byrnes has signed to played some games for Deer Park
Might see more of this then.
