Opinion Chappys book

I wonder if the book includes a chapter where Chapman admits that he was wrong to go to Essendon, and should have pulled the pin when the club let him go instead, and retired a one-club player, or even played on a reduced contract, and have been able to help fast-track players such as Lang, Thurlow, Blicavs and Gregson via the VFL by him playing alongside them, and giving back to the club, the same way Tim McGrath did in 2002 (and McGrath was guaranteed of NO senior games that year, and still played on to help Ablett, Stevie J, Bartel, Kelly and even Chappy to become the superstars they became, and taste success in the 2002 VFL Grand Final. McGrath didn't sook about a maximum ten games, which I don't buy the club told Chapman either).

Does he also mention how he held the club to ransom in 2012 and 2013 for two-year contracts, when most players across the league over thirty get one year max, year after year (Brent Harvey is on his eighth or ninth one-year contract), how he said that he could have gone to other clubs over the years, while at the same time preaching about the team staying together for success, and acted like he regretted in hindsight not taking up one of the offers, since he accused Geelong of lowballing him, in both money and years of contract? Does he mention he accepted a one-year contract at Essendon, and less money than Geelong's initial offer, after turning it down at Geelong? Or how about how he hit Justin Westoff of Port in the 2013 S.F., getting rubbed out, and possibly his absence played a part in us missing the 2013 GF (even though Varcoe was made the scapegoat instead)?

I wonder if I can read these things in his book. Or maybe I should try to get hold of the old newspapers instead, where he blabbed to the media and aired our dirty laundry about the club's contract negotiations with him, and went to the media first to push his case, instead of the club.
J'accuse! That was a pretty decent spray.

Metal band? Def Leppard?
**** Rock.
Fear Factory is Metal
I love Def Leps first four albums. There guitar work was pretty intricate. But I would struggle to call them metal, even they say they weren't a part of the new wave of British heavy metal (which I think they where). But yes, metal in today's terms is fear factory, slipknot, etc

I bet if other players played there last season half-injured, you would want them gone. You just like Chappy because he stuck it to Chris Scott, who many here loathe. You people see it as another reason to sack a hated coach.

You'll have to clarify who 'you people' are. I speak for myself.

I never said Scott should be sacked. There are a couple of things I would like done differently. Big difference.

Already said this, which you must have missed. I'm indifferent to how Chapman or any veteran player are treated; but when someone returns from injury with 26 touches and 2 goals, and then 4 goals in a final, to me, they might be worth keeping.

The counter argument is Ottens 2011 GF - wonderful game but didn't mean he had another left in him. Maybe not an accurate comparison with Chappy but you get my drift. Even with hindsight I think that the club did the right thing for the long term position of the club. Indeed we will get more out of that decision next year, as the young players have more games under their belt.

And then goes and selfishly gets himself rubbed out, costing himself a final, and costing Geelong the flag (remember, Chapman himself said that Geelong would never lose to Hawthorn in any game he played in, and yet, he misses the PF against Hawthorn, and we lose to them, for the first time since the 2008 GF, and yet Varcoe got all the blame).

Think of this, in the form you say Chapman was in, then he would have kicked at least 2 goals against Hawthorn in that PF, which means we would have won. So his absence for his own selfish actions cost us a Grand Final appearance, and based how bad Freo played, possibly a flag as well (a flag he would have played in, since his suspension was one week).

I mentioned the 2008 GF. Well, in a way, Chapman cost us that too. Because Bomber brought Chapman back, we dropped David Wocjinski, who would have broken the lines against Hawthorn, and the result could have been different. The loss of Wojo was more significant than Chapman's contribution that day.

Besides, when I said "you people" I was being general, but include haters like Biggy Boy and other losers in that group, who have wanted to see Chris Scott fail from Day 1. Admit it, you haven't been the biggest supporter of our current coach either.

AFL player autobiographies can be pretty painful, I made the mistake of reading Wayne Carey's book a few years back and to quote Howard Moon from The Boosh 'That's not a novel, that's the scribbling's of a cokehead r3tard.'
EFA

I actually made the same mistake reading Carey's book too. They should have let him rot in that jail, at least would have made for a better ending.

I am definitely more concerned since the bungled 2013 finals campaign. And his comments after the late season Hawthorn loss last year made me wonder if he was even watching the same game. Strangely enough, I though, I still want the team to win.

As for calling fans 'losers', well it's delightful and charming of course, but they're entitled to their opinion.

I don't really like sportspeople's biographies. Have read many, I don't think I have read any worthwhile, even Tom Harley's still appeared like a semi-literate moron. Someone will probably give me one for Christmas and I'll read it in a couple of hours. Then throw it away.

Love Chappy, sorry he went. Would have preferred he retire to continuing with the Bombers, could have been worse he could have gone to Hawthorn or the Dockers. That is the way it is. He will always be remembered as a Geelong champion, nobody doubts that.

Amazing to think some hold it against Chappy leaving - no one here would knock back a two-year deal worth a few $100,000's just for the sake of keeping a few hearts warm.

Book should have been his footy career done as children's pop-up though - "Happy Chappy!"

ricky pontings was pretty good.

Years ago at a function, I won a book of Dermie's.
It was literally stuff like ' 'We went on the bus to Adelaide and Jason tripped getting off the bus, Geez it was funny and we all laughed.'
For the whole book.;)

I must admit, I quite liked D. J. Hawkins' expansive tome Hawk Namure Manure and still keep a treasured copy. Dermott even has a 'guest chapter' in it, wherein he regales the reader with a tale of Johnny 'The Rat' Platten getting dakked at the beach one day and marching proudly around in the nuddy.

You can still find it at your local Salvos or Vinnies op shop!

I've flicked thru it a bit, read a bit. Some nice photos, too many Essendone ones. Two things I found interesting, had a argument with Sam Newman at the Brownlow (2002?) and never spoke to him again. Denies being offered a ten game contract at the end of 2013.

It's a bit like movies, I've read (and have) great ones about boxers, but mostly ordinary about other sports.

Here's a question: If Chapman played at Geelong in 2015, but played to the form he did this year, would you have accepted CS tapping him on the shoulder? He was past it in 2015. So, therefore, he only deserved a one-year contract, so Geelong were vindicated.
They most certainly were vindicated in the end in only offering a 1yr deal, fair given he was over 30 and only played 8/24 games in 2013.

Hopefully in 2016 they're also vindicated in keeping Menzel, Cowan and Vardy at the club, it'll mean they're all playing footy. Let's hope that happens next year.
