Charcoal chicken

Only a 10min drive from Eltham and Blackburn so I might give a couple of these a try. Know exactly where Chicken on Bolton St is because I always used to drive past it on the way home from Bball.

Had it yesterday..

I had a quarter chicken wing piece and stuffing plus gravy on top. Also had scalloped potatoes which are to die for at this place.

They use Lylidale free range chicken and they put rice in their stuffing. It's fuc*ing awesome!

Place in my home town Ballarat called town and country is alright nothing amazing on the chicken from but do everything well.

What they do do though is Potato salad and use the day priors scolloped potato as the base, mind = blown best ever

****ing disaster tonight. Coming home from the gym, decided to grab some King Chooks.

Store not open Monday.

Vietnamese home delivery stood up to the plate. And delivered.

Tunstall Square Charcoal Chicken gets the thumbs up. Half chicken with salad and a water = $12. Big servings (just like Captain Gumby down a door or two = nice gyro meal here). Will visit Chook Stop on the weekend.

You seem to live near me as Tunstall is about a 5 min drive from me. Keep us updated on your chicken adventures ;)

This is such a big bonus, chips must be amazing though too, they can make or break a deal imo, with any meal.

A place in Geelong called Tasty Rooster is awesome for the chips, good chicken also but wow on the chips and spring rolls, so crisp and so much seasoning!

edit - also does fried chicken which may be better than KFC!

Lived in Waurn Ponds for three years when that store first opened. Once a week for three years, was awesome. Didn't have much business early on, but by the end was always busy when I went in. Quality declined a little because of that, but was still better than nearly every place.

When I was in High School the local Chicken shop had quarter chicken, chips and a coke for $5. Smashing deal.

Make my own charcy chicken. I have a stainless tub purposely built, thanks to my boiler maker brother inlaw. And a rack that holds two - three dozen juicey fat legs.I spice them up a bit with my own little mixture.

As i cook the chicken over the charcoal i frequently spray watered down, freshly squeezed lemon and lime juice over the chicken to keep it moist. The smell is exotic when its cooking. The dripping fat over the hot coals brings up some smoke which adds to the flavour.

Its a hit at family barbys or birthdays, or friends wanting a beer and a feed. It flys out the window and gone in 60 seconds.

One of the more important threads of the off season
For me Chook Stop in Croydon South. Tasty chickens, of course, but also have home made sausage rolls and egg and bacon quiche things at lunch time which are awesome. The girls who run it are great too. Near the corner of Bayswater Rd and Eastfield rd.

Got there around 4pm today, have a feeling it must shut early. I bought a chicken - it was nice. Didn't see any sausage rolls, will keep an eye out. Friendly service.

I'm not sure what it is called, but there is a chicken and chip shop on the corner of Williamstown and Ferguson Roads, Williamstown. Great chicken, but the chips and gravey are the best I have ever had.

The shop (inside shots only) is actually in the first Underbelly series where Carl and Roberta eat.
That place is good, but not as good as it use to be. About 10 years ago my mates I use to eat there all the time, but I went back about 6 months ago as I told my mrs it was the best joint ever. It was good, but not great.

The charcoal chicken next to the Millers Inn in Altona North has the best chicken anywhere.

Now in Essendon where I live the chicken places are ok, but not great

Went to Amigos Chicken, McAdam Square, North Croydon tonight. The McAdam Square vacinity was full of the great smell of charcoal chicken courtesy of the flu pumping out the smoke into the area. I didn't have much time to muck around, so I ordered the $6.50 "chicken roll". Immediately noticable is that it appears Friday evening must be busy at Amigos, as about half of Luther College's year 9 intake appeared to be working. Also noticable was the fast efficient service emphasised at Amigos Chicken and large chip servings that were accompanying the orders of chicken and chips. Down to the roll. A LARGE amount of charcoal chicken, fresh bakery roll and mayo. Gets the thumbs up though next time, I will request coleslaw to be added and mayo left off. I will also purchase half a chicken to see how that goes.

Friends, I've been giving Amigos a fair workout of late. I recommend the chicken roll, small chips (not very small) and a small coleslaw. Get it home, perhaps pull out a sauce of your liking (I've been using Pappy's BBQ Sauce from St.Louis recently) and dig in. I think Amigos is the best charcoal chicken in the Croydon area.

Chelsea Charcoal Chicken. Run by two young greek blokes. Awesome chicken, gravy and chips.

Glad to hear this store is still performing with the new owners, the old guy with ah eh, strange looking/sounding assistant used to be fantastic, if there still matching their quality I miss living down that neck of the woods.

Now in the off season I can speak freely on chicken related topics.
I can fully endorse King Chooks as the best chicken going around. Funny that I found out about it here cause it's the closest chicken shop to where I live. Awesome

I spent a lot of time working in Sydney last year and found they seem to have more charcoal chicken places then Melbourne. Because of this (and the fact they don't have dim sims) I developed my taste for charcoal chicken there.

There is a chain called Chargrill Charlie's which is pretty darn good.
I don't really remember any others up in Sydney

I heard the chicken tastes a bit different there apparently it's nicer??

I think the cook it differently or something.

Any truth to this?
