His kicking is clearly the 2nd best of our mids behind Duncan and is excellent going inside 50 when he gets the chance. But he generally plays a more defensive role so gets more possessions around half back so that our less accountable midfielders can play more attacking roles.

Agreed. His role and strength appears to that 2-way running mid who is a really good link-up player

Duncan's finals especially in 2020 have been excellent. The idea he's a poor finals player is crazy.

Guthrie's stats look worse because he played either as a defender or a very defensive midfielder sometimes tagging until 2020. In our losses since then he's had 3 ordinary finals and was decent in the GF. He was pretty good in our wins. His finals the last 2 years haven't matched his H&A form whereas before that he generally improved come finals.

You got me. Guthrie is actually a finals giant who does a lot of scoreboard damage. It just doesn’t show in my misleading stats for some unknowable reason. 😁

Seriously though, my impression of Guthrie is he is a bit safe with the ball overall.

He's been terrible. If you look at this era Geelong, we generally lose the first final, beat up on a lower team second final, then lose the prelim.
Duncans performances are highly inflated by that second final.
When it's been tough or even semi tough he just changes.
Might still get enough of the ball but you don't want him to.

Oh fine.
Duncan has been a much better finals player than Guthrie.
His disposal efficiency which improves in finals and precision ball use contributes greatly to our continued excellence during games in September.
 
This is the Constable thread....now completely derailed. The last ten posts have centred on Mitch Duncan and Cam Guthrie...that being the case, I'll close this thread...at least for the moment.

We also don't need posters taking trips back to the past for the sole purpose of telling another poster he has made a "poor call"....such posts have drawn sanctions in the past....so just stop it.
