Player Watch Charlie Dean (Delisted 2025)

Out of contract at years end

Behind Frampton and McInness in the order

… after Reef barely trained 6 months in that 2nd/3rd defender position

… which says a lot

And with talk of a MSD key defender pick up

Doesn’t bode well… Needs a big year

This season is the best I've seen Charlie play. I know he is third in line behind Frampton and Reef but credit is due, he's done enough for me a least to feel comfortable if given the chance he will succeed. Good headache for the club to have!
I really want him to succeed. Had such high hopes for him when we first drafted him & he unfortunately had those awful foot issues.

Agree although Reef has not done anything. Just as good VFL form as Dean has achieved.

I thought he had a good intercept game against the BHH, good kicking too.

Yeah he’s had some good form
In the twos… just doesn’t get a look in… to the point where pies will change their structure and go in shorter than play him… as was the case when Moore was out and reef being long term out

With a hand full of senior list spots needing to be freed up each year in order to fit in draftees and trade targets… in this context Dean is likely to get delisted… especially if most of Peddles, Howe and Sidebottom play on

I haven’t seen watched much VFL to be fair, didn’t realise he had been playing at that level for a while.

Perhaps they’ve assessed that his VFL form just doesn’t translate to AFL level

Injuries probably ruined his chances, also lacks a yard. See him as too good for VFL but not quite good enough to cement a spot in the AFL. Handy depth that can be called upon of needed.

Still might get another year, but it’ll be a very late call if it’s offered.

Jason Croall.

Excellent bloke, solid reserves player.

Dean seems of a similar ilk.

Unlike Collingwood's stacked midfield, there were several opportunities for a KPD to shine. Just couldn't bridge that gap.

Timing is everything. Both Frampton and Dean wee behind McInnes during the preseason. Dean behind Frampton when McInnes got injured. We’ve seen Frampton take his opportunity so I'm not sure why we shouldn’t have faith in Dean if senior selection comes.

Jason Croall was the captain of our 1986 premiership winning under 19s team (that featured Gavin Brown, McGuane, Crossisca and Monky).

What a shit team to have to come up against as a recent school leaver, bloody hell
