Charmed Fixture - AGAIN

The release of the 2007 fixtures ( WHICH MAY CHANGE in some areas ) is one of the reasons why C/Wood footy club is disliked so much .

the wingers will not be happy untill the draw allocates losses for us and wins for them before playing
but I sometimes think that our large crowd spurs other teams to lift also, so our crowd can work against us, just listen to some of the interviews after the games and they mention how the crowd helps

It's basically no different than the past decade!

In that time we've had a spoon, a couple of Grannies, a few mid table fizzers, a few bottom four finishes and a final series. Fairly run of the mill I would have thought!

I am sort of under the weird impression...and please, correct me if I'm wrong...that it is more important to actually be good, than to worry about the one interstate trip more that most "non-sellout" Victorian clubs experience.

This always makes me laugh. Other teams supporters complaining about all our games at the MCG.

Before complaining they should do some research. The reason we have more games at The "G" is thanks to the AFL's prelim final deal with the MCC. To get out of that the MCC wanted more Collingwood games there. AFL agreed, deal done, interstate teams now get home prelim's if they earn them.

Then after browsing through some of the other club sites I come across the Geelong site with an article about their draw. It contains the following:

Geelong has expressed its excitement about being handed a plum MCG home game against Collingwood in the 2007 AFL fixture in what shapes as one of the blockbuster matches of 2007.

So obviously other clubs want to play the Pies at the "G".

If you check out the Collingwood site there are some impressive attendance figures to be found.

Collingwood blockbuster matches in 2006 attracted massive crowds:

824,000 people attended Collingwood matches at the MCG at an astonishing average of 63,378 per match.

A total of 1.243 million people attended Collingwood matches in 2006

The club’s all time attendance record for home and away matches was broken (1,159,532) and Collingwood fell just 3000 short of the all time VFL/AFL record.

581,718 people attended Collingwood home matches smashing the previous record of 557,000 set in 2002
.

This is why we are at the "G" so much. Collingwood want to play there, the AFL want us to play there, the MCC want us to play there and other clubs want to play their home games against us there.

So don't blame us.

I don't blame collingwood, if any other club was in the same boat they would do the same thing, I don't think it helps you guys out in the long run though, so many games at home means you could reach the finals with a more inferior team than the others in the 8 and like this year get smacked in the first finals round. Result is lower draft picks than you probably should get (except of course if you find a club stupid enough to give you a first round pick and a decent goal sneak for someone who averages 1.8 goals a game).

AND, nobody from Sydney should whinge , we all remember Barry Hall getting off punching someone in the guts in a prelim and there was no way they would have won in 2005 without him. That was the biggest 'GIFT' any club has ever got!

Not to mention the fact that for several years we have willingly given Sydney a home game against us at Telstra Stadium during the split round. That game is the biggest cash cow in the home and away season, so Sydney fans would do well to remember that.

We also give the Queens birthday match to Melbourne every year as their home game. Why? Because they want it, and the AFL obliges. 2007 will be the first time in ages that Collingwood get a home game against the Dees. Do we get any credit for helping a cash-strapped Victorian club? No, we just get people bemoaning our "charmed" draw.
