I'd love for you guys to check out my band, Philadelphia Grand Jury - www.myspace.com/philadelphiagrandjury - any feedback is welcomed (although positive feedback is much better for my ego).

When I heard the name on JJJ the other day, I thought "I swear I've heard that name before". Sure enough, there is it.

Huge congratulations on the BDO/Unearthed thing!

hey guys i know this is only vaguely related to linking you to our music, but i've already done that at the start of this thread. I just thought its worth putting this message up here in case any drummers close enough to our area to practice read this at all.

Just a notice to let you all know that we are in urgent need of a new drummer. We have recently been offered unbelievable opportunities to travel overseas (America) and have our EP recorded and released for free under the sponsorship of a marketing company, who are interested in using our music on a TV show and DVD they broadcast in the States.
This is an opportunity we don't want to pass up on so if you are a drummer or you know of one, please let us know asap so we can organize a practice session. Just Private Message me and we can talk further details.

Thanks again and stay METAL

Damo,
Ayera Vocals.

Not really "My" stuff. But they're friends of mine and I'm their manager. They've got quite a following in the local music scene. Really good stuff. They only have one song up at the moment but yeah, check it out. It's bloody good.

Their Myspace is www.myspace.com/theoutcomes2
Heh... much like Beat Happening... and not necessarily a good thing.

The drummer needs to play with some people of equal skill to him.

He's playing with a few IMHO. Lead guitarist is pretty great, not sure what songs you've listened to, so I don't know if you've heard any of his good stuff. The keyboardist is friggen incredible, doesn't really get free reign to show off in the band, but when he does, it's great.

Just heard about a Melbourne based band called "The New Breed"
Saying they are a 70s & 80s influenced band and have a different sound.
They have a few originals and are talking about a tour in September this year

I have a friend in the US who kept telling me about a musician she likes by the name of Ari Hest. In 2008 he embarked on a project called 52 and I decided to subscribe, even though I hadn't heard much of his music at all.

What it involved was the release of a brand new song every week of the year. There were varying levels of subscription, the minimum cost being USD20 so I thought I would give it a shot.

I am sure other artists have done this sort of thing before but it was certainly the first time I had come across it.

He ended up getting over 1000 subscribers and each week, along with releasing the song, he would post a brief blog on how it came to be written, along with the lyrics.

What made it interesting was the fact that at the end of the year every subscriber was able to vote on what they thought the top 12 songs were. From that poll, the top 12 polling songs would be touched up in the studio (the original songs were recorded in his apartment) and then would comprise his new album - effectively meaning that the subscribers selected its track listing. The album has just been released and is called Twelve Mondays.

I was amazed by the quality of the songs released during the year. Of the 52, there were probably only 8 that I didn't like or thought were average. Of the ones I really liked, only 4 made it onto the album - so there is plenty of material left over for another album or two from the songs not chosen.

Anyway, I just found the whole experience pretty interesting, especially given that I only subscribed out of curiosity and wasn't expecting much - plus I don't normally go for music like this.

Here is his myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/arihest

Cheers.

Re: Check out my band

The guys above have recorded a 6 track EP at Melbourne REcords and shall be releasing it soon.

Thanks mate \m/. When the Myspace is re-designed in a week or so a couple of tracks will be up which will alternate each week, the EP itself will be available for purchase after printing/pressing in 6 weeks or so.
