This time next week our first game for the season, I honestly cannot wait to lose my voice, wave my flag until my arms hurt and most importantly be apart of the beginning of something special.
Carn the Saints

Can someone please confirm that we got rid of that ultra cringe slow chant before the start of the game? Was embarrassing last year when they played it over the speakers and next to no one got around it
Was that that thing that started with the "Knock Knock... Who's There... Owen.... Owen Who?... Oh When the Saints..."?

If it is then yes, I 2nd the notion to get rid of that wanky intro & horrific slow chant rubbish

Yeah that was it - if people want to start it then they will, we don't need that rubbish playing over the top on the speakers. Just as bad as when teams (including St. Kilda in 2015) played recordings of crowds cheering whenever they kick a goal to make it seem louder, I hate that garbage

I loved the slow chant of "Oh when the Saints go marching in" if that's what you mean - was inspiring

It was embarrassing at the ground there were about 10 people actually singing along. In full stadium it would have rocked but when 10000 people are there and canned crowd noise comes on it's a bit painful.

Me too...but not the whole knock, knock thing.

I was the brainchild of that slow chant (well i at least put the idea forward), and it was all inspired from the rousing Tottenham Hotspur "oh when the spurs" chant. It sounds amazing. Only way we are going to build it up is by keeping to push it until all the people get it..

It will work and will be great once it catches. needs more promotion tho (knock knock part was crap tho)

I mean it was a great idea and all but at least last year was very poorly executed by the club. This is AFL, not the English Premier League. AFL fans don't generally take to singing/chanting like that like football fans do

The kids love it.

The miserable old grumps & the too cool for school twenty somethings whine about it.

For the future of the club, the kids win.

Give it a go this year when there's hype. I think it'll work. We're expecting a packed house at Etihad on Saturday and with the build up of strong JLT performances and our impending rivalry with the Dees, I think Saints fan will make some noise.

If a packed cheer squad lead it then it might work - piping it on the loudspeakers never will.

It was very rushed last year because they sorted it out in December 2015 where typically the club plans the following year around June/July...I'll get you guys to help with another review and send it to the club around mid-season so they are able to plan properly.

If the afl want greater fan involvement that should start allowing safe standing in the cheer squads just like in football all around the world. Sitting and chanting/singing don't really go hand in hand. I feel they're are a lot of passionate people out there who would enjoy getting into the chants a bit more but don't bother because it's pretty half assed and you look like a minority when it should be the other way around!
