Roast Cheer Squad

Surely though the real answer is not to have a go at the WA cheer squad but rather for all of you WA fans to get in there and scream your guts out at every home game from here on in?? Lord knows from what I saw when I was over there last most of you have plenty of gut-fat to scream off...

I don't the problem is with the effort, its all about coordination.

What they need is a sole person to get right up with a loud voice and start 1 chant and get everyone going together. I've heard from people the WA cheersquad say 3-4 people start up chants from different areas that never take off.

This is true, I sit a couple blocks over from the cheer squad and in my block there's this one guy with a booming voice who relentlessly tries to start chants all game long and when he's met with silence he bitterly remarks on the cheer squads impotence, this is the kind if person I feel should probably be in the cheer squad in the first place, if it was made up of people like him they'd produce decent noise.

Yes, but why should it be left to him to "probably be in the cheer squad" - surely all (yes ALL) of the WA Freo fans at the ground should be able to stand up, stomp and yell, cheer and shout, whether they are in the "cheer squad" or not?? No need for a designated sole cheer squad leader or choir master, just get off of you fair sized keisters , stand up and yell - all y'all!!

Please, everyone get involved and get loud, we really need you over the next few home games...

WOW. Step up and cheer. I don't live in WA and can hear the dramatic drop off of total crowd volume at games especially if we are not up. Don't be too quick to point the finger at the cheer squad, if your looking at them you're not cheering. Got a problem with the cheer squad, step up, pay $30 extra, support your club and join the cheer squad and make it better. Otherwise if you're not solving the problem, then your part of it,

People don't want to pay that extra to sit in the cheersquad (especially since it's alcohol free) when they can save themselves $30 and sit to the sides or behind and have a drink if they want. These people pay the extra money to sit in the CHEER SQUAD. It's in the effing name. It is their job to get these chants going. If you don't want to cheer then piss off to other parts of the ground or stay at home and watch on your bloody arm chair.

FWIW I can multitask. I can use my voice and my eyes at once. If I am looking at them then I am also able to cheer which I do.

This is part of the problem. The chants are always out of time. There are 4 blocks in between the 2 sets of races in the 3 tier stand and yet we always have one side start one chant while another starts a different or the same chant but out of time.

Can I just say it is not entirely the fault of the individuals. The club must support the Cheersquad - they used to provide them with flags, resources, etc. - what happened to all that support?

We are a wealthy club and if the club pulled their finger out and spent a little bit of cash I'm sure it would go a long way!

I cheer so much I lose my voice after almost every home game.

The cheer squad sit in what I consider to be the worst seats at subi. There is no way in hell I am joining the cheers squad.

Personally, the cheer squad isn't my thing (even if I lived in Perth) but to criticize them, considering they are basically volunteers, is just poor form in my opinion. Reminds me of my kids junior footy teams, all the parents quick to point out the things they do wrong, but disappear the moment their turn to help out comes around.

Yeah, I see your point. This is why it's taken me 3 months to start the thread.

But, I reckon, if you join the cheer squad, it's because you want to be there, you join because you want to be part of something, part of the club, and you want to cheer your team on and spurr them on to great things. So my question is why join the cheer squad and not make any more noise than the rest of the crowd? My intention in starting the thread was not to abuse, merely to let cheer squad members know that I can't hear 'em. (Hoping that one or two of them occasionally read these boards).

My guts have been screamed out at pretty much every game I've been to. I reckon the people who sit in block 105 near me make plenty of noise. There's no lack of generalised cheering. My point is that the cheer squad are supposed to make some extra noise and get the chants started to increase our home ground advantage. I'm not hearing many chants.

The "Oh my Darlin Ballantyne" guys in 105 are pretty darn awesome, I know in 106 we join in. I'd say our block makes a fair amount of noise throughout the game.

I sit at the Cheersquad end of the ground and rarely hear anything. The noise level is so low I can never figure out what they're saying. Probably not an effort thing, just organisation, the sound is always muffled as if they aren't all in sync.

No way I'd trade my seats to sit in the cheersquad area.

I'll probably get shouted down for saying this BUT, you guys should really go to a Collingwood match at the G as a neutral observer, their fans are quite obviously mad, however from their perspective their players can do no wrong. Every slight win is met with a huge roar, they easily have the best roar of all the supporters. Opposition players and umpires are going to cop it and the Collingwood players love it.
Did you all know that they copied the slow 'Collingwood' chant from our Freo? It appeared during the 2008 season, years after ours.
I'm not a closet magpie, but on the whole their crowds are pretty impressive.

Block 107 has "oh my darling" people in it, complete with banner. They sit behind me, the block usually joins in.

Have done. They are way better than us.

Good to hear that you cheer, why don't you get a cheer going in your block not 105? Theres no rule against starting a cheer in your block ? Ever done it or brought a banner to a game? Let us all know your block number and seat number and get the rest of Subi looking at you and your great seats.

Don't pay extra, Start the cheer, get them in time you are a grown man figure it out. "This is part of the problem" is you blaming others not taking responsibility and is just a cop out.

FFS $30 is what you spend on beers. Its not their job, they pay $30 because they're passionate and want to support our beloved team and its them trying to make a difference, Ask Seppo how much he sacrifices and puts in every game just to support Freo it just makes me angry to read this cr@p.

Yes, I have started a few cheers in my time and so have others who sit near me. I've never brought a banner. I'm not quite sure I understand your last sentence... I'm in block 105 Row MM seat 6. Why is that relevant? What's your point?
