Another point - the 'GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELOOOOOOOOOONGGG' chant is my absolute favourite, but the 'Been there for years, don't change a thing' people aren't a fan of it.

Try my best to get it going in the aisles after a win, though!

Massive shame because its amazing. If you can, push it because a cheer squad led "GGGEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLOOOOOOOOOOOGG" fills the stadium with noise!
The "Geelong clap clap clap" is like pin drops in comparison.

It's not quite a recruiting thing... From what I can see, it's pretty much full - of people who aren't going anywhere, but aren't prepared to get up and cheer, either.

As for 'bringing it up at the next meeting', the cheer squad isn't really run like that. There's a group of people who run and organize the cheer squad to make things go smoothly, organize banner making, run fundraisers, etc.

It's not really a 'open to suggestions' type organization - It's been run the same way by the same people for decades. These people haven't missed a game in decades, haven't changed the way things happen in decades, and aren't about to start taking ideas, suggestions and criticisms from a 19 year old who's only been a part of the cheer squad for the last 50 or so games.

As for the 'elderly, mature' look the cheer squad seems to have, that's spot on - I think the percentage of Geelong members, not just cheer squad members, are older than your average bear. They're the ones that have been there for years, and seem quite happy to just sit up the back and clap.

If young people willing to cheer are looking to join, they're welcome to! But I'm pretty sure the problem is bigger than that.

I would suggest that therein lies the problem.... full of old school members who don't want to change or take on any ideas..
Also does Catman have a girlfriend that dresses up like a cat also? And does he actually contribute in any real way other than doing that? I sat in the players stand this year a few bays round from you guys and I can confirm the stand gets loud.. but it seems to be a few in the cheer squad trying and the rest just waving flags.. the oldies probably love that they get to go on the ground and do the banners etc.. but really you need a bunch of LOUD supporters.. not just a few in a group

And Shell is also right Freo fans are arseholes

Imo you only do that cheer when you have the game won/ in the bag.

Does anyone else share this view?

Missus? o_O

Alright girlfriend then..

I'm pretty sure he doesnt have one of those either Shane..
Is he the other way inclined? I just saw a female hanging off him the other week who has the full face paint to match is all

I dont know him personally, but I thought he was gay.

Not that there's anything wrong with that...

LOL- one poster on here actually had a "run in" with him once at the MCG. Needless to say he is not her favourite person in the world. :D

Yeah the noise created by the much fewer in numbers Freo supporters yesterday did seem like more than that by our supporters. We definitely need something more than the 'Geelong clap clap clap' chant, something that everyone can do together and will create a lot of noise. Perhaps, "We are Geelong.."

Im as big a supporter as any I guess but im not the type to get involved in the cheer squad.

As such, i dont think it's fair to criticise those that get out there week in and week out and do the business.

I will say in general listeneing to KROCK yesterday however you could hear the Freo goons as much as you could hear us.

That is a comment on the the crowd as much as the cheer squad however.

Go Catters

Agreed but like I said, that "FFFFRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" chant just fills the stadium with noise, hence why I think we should employ the same (obviously Geelong and not Freo....) because as I see it the "Geelong clap clap clap" just doesn't generate enough noise.
Basically it is like a bass drum vs a tight snare.

Catman is 100% into bangers, rather than mash.

Spot on. Again, if I had any say, we'd be doing it after every second goal.

Sounds like a clean out needs to be conducted by the club.
The Pies did it.

They're perfectly capable of running it, and do a brilliant job doing so - they just don't cheer enough and don't like change.
Which is why collingwood cleaned theirs out.

Coooollllliiinnngggwwwooooddddd chant came after.

It should be (assuming 200 members)

100 sub 18.
50 between 18-30
50 between 30 and 40. (To pretty much run it and control)

That's it.

Once you hit 40. Retired.
