Ah, I get you. No, I'm one of the chardonnay sippers in Level 2 : )
Yeah only cheer squad members get the expression of interest form while you poshies up on lev2 drink you chardonny

IMO it all gets back to critical mass ( no pun intended on recently sacked CS members) and until we start winning games and attracting lots more kids we will struggle for numbers. If the club can work out a way to identify to identify passionate kids who are willing to do the CS stuff then giving them a membership for a year or maybe a subsidised membership could help.

I like the tradition of cheer squads in our game and appreciate the efforts and commitment of our CS members and would not like to see that lost.

And it's pronounced - CARDONNAY. THE H IS SILENT !! :p

I went to a crap school... ;p

Ps: Didn't Eddie make every single Pies cheer squad member reapply a few years ago? He transformed the cheer squad member base.

He did and the Collingwood Cheer Squad is more pathetic than yours. Clubs trying to control and micro manage the cheer squad has killed any passion or creativity. Banner messages can't be controversial and must be approved, flags must be under a certain size, no snowing, no streamers, no covering of any advertising boards.

Clubs should leave it for the youth and stay well out of it.

That is something I agree with. That sort of organised support should be independent.

Its no longer 1976

Today football is about BRAND and a cheer squad can be a big part of that brand

All these changes make sense. I wouldn't call it micromanaging either. It seems pretty simple to me. Don't offend people, don't spoil the view of the people behind you, don't litter and don't cover up the advertisers who pay the clubs salaries.

Yep and that's why cheer squads are the way they are.

According to my daughter, who was in the CS for a couple of years, there were a couple of people who had built an empire from within. She left because she felt like an outcast, and I'm feeling that a few others might have felt the same.

I agree that it needs a revamp. I was a member many years ago when the same people were running the show and was actually embarrassed by some behaviour to a point where I left.

lets be honest who would have wanted to be in that cheer squad a few years ago when we where getting thrashed every week, not many .But if you create a place and community that you enjoy going to the football is second and the community that you are involved is just as important

I'm a cheer squad member so I'm in position to comment further than most...

I think the squad needs some new life breathed into it, It's really gone backwards in recent years, most of the reason being team performance but I think the people running it just seem tired and there is a district lack of enthusiasm, Club made the right call but think it could have handled it better.

On a related note I vote for El Scraggo to lead the new cheer squad, Free Mission Tacos for All.

I welcome the move so long as it's done in the the right spirit. Something had to be done and just because a few noses have been put out of joint, doesn't make it wrong.

Eddie and Collingwood have had alot to do with this, for many years Eddie has help our club with alot of off field stuff, to a point that we have gone to collingwood for some help on this matter and on advice from Eddie and Pert. This is yet another positive in moving forward imo

The two members who have run the cheer squad are not that particularly friendly, it is pretty cliquey, which is unfortunate in driving people away.

WT?
That's all fine, but all these issues are AFL and Stadia directives to their stakeholders, not the other way around. The clubs are instructed to enfoce it.

Last time I checked it's NOT the 70s anymore, why on earth would they allow "snowing", huge flags, banners covering Adverts etc.. One of the reasons we got $1b for the rights is because of advertising rights and the image of the game.

.

My two cents:
These fellows are clearly passionate supporters who have kept this CS going thru thick and thin.

But in meeting them once, my impression was they distinctly lacked communication and people skills. It is still a sad day for them and would have come as a complete shock no doubt. Whether it was possible to complete this transition in a nicer way we can only speculate as it is unfortunate the guys feel miffed and angry.

The club should try to repair any rift and show them some love - maybe a free membership ticket for the year or some other gesture would be appropriate.

But a change was overdue.
