AFP bust alleged child-stealing ring in NSW, Queensland and WA
    BY NICK DOLE

Three men have been arrested over an alleged plot to help women abduct children, portray their fathers as child abusers and then hide the children from authorities.

    Key points:
    • Police said the group allegedly aimed to help women abduct and hide their children
    • They said 10 children had been safely returned home after being abducted
    • AFP Assistant Commissioner Debbie Platz said more people may have been involved without knowing it
Australian Federal Police investigators raided properties across Australia, including Dubbo and Grafton in NSW, Townsville in Queensland, and various locations in Perth.

A sailing boat was also searched.

Police said during their two-year investigation, 10 children had been safely returned after being abducted.

Five of them are linked to this particular group, police say.

Police allege a 64-year-old man, arrested in Grafton yesterday, acted as the key financier of the scheme, which aimed to help two women abduct and hide their children, in contravention of family law orders.

A 63-year old man, also arrested in Grafton, allegedly acted as the co-coordinator.

Police claim he sent money to the women and then used social media to portray the children's fathers as child abusers.

Both men will appear in Grafton Local Court today.

An 83-year old man has also been arrested in Townsville and charged over his alleged involvement.

He is due to appear in Townsville Local Court today.

    Extracts»
Dr William Russell Massingham Pridgeon, a Grafton GP and the founder of the Australian Anti-Paedophile Party, which ran senate candidates in the 2016 federal election, was one of the four people arrested and charged on Wednesday morning.

It is alleged the rural doctor was the key financier and organiser of efforts assisting the two women and concealing them from authorities, in contravention of family law orders.

A second Grafton man, Patrick O'Dea, was allegedly a co-organiser of the scheme, who provided the women with money and used social media and other public forums to actively portray the fathers of their children as child abusers.
An 83-year-old Townsville man was charged for allegedly assisting the two Grafton men, while a prosecution notice was also served on a 78-year-old Perth woman.

The group is said to have used a variety of phone messaging apps to communicate and plan the alleged abductions.

Ten search warrants were executed in the NSW towns of Grafton and Dubbo on Wednesday, as well as in Townsville and Perth, at locations which included a yacht.

It is understood the group was fitting out the yacht and had concocted plans to use the yacht to covertly ferry children around the country, possibly taking them to New Zealand. However police discovered no firm plans relating to any specific children.

On Thursday The Courier-Mail reported the man took sailing lessons, and spent $140,000 to buy and fit-out the yacht, with plans to sail it to Tasmania "to help mothers and their children start a new life in New Zealand or Zimbabwe".

Well, that's interesting. How did they intend to make these children invisible within the system so they couldn't be found?

I stay away from these groups, there's a lot of them over social media. They're so intense, self righteous, short on facts and with a strong vigilante bent.

Here it is, changed their identities. Another interesting charge, dealing in the proceeds of crime.

Police allege that for the past decade the group, headed by a doctor from Grafton, has operated a sophisticated syndicate of "like-minded people", who used clandestine methods to abduct and move children around the country; including dying their hair, changing their names and altering their dates of birth.

He has been charged with conspiring to defeat justice and dealing in the proceeds of crime worth $100,000 or more.

She said the ongoing investigation had found the network had links overseas, to both New Zealand and South Africa, describing the "intelligence picture" investigators had determined regarding a yacht owned by Dr Pridgeon.

A quick scan of stories in this "news site" in conjunction with what this "journalists" has stated in the story suggests that they might've carried some of these fake pedophile stories that the group planted to convince the gullible to help them.

I've archived the current version of the article by Dee McLachlan in the wayback machine due to it containing something which might be of interest to the the AFP in regards to the Operation Noetic investigation.

    ...
"One of these calls was from a South African/Australian, Patrick O’Dea. He seems to have dedicated his life to helping keep children safe, so we chatted for some 30 minutes — and I offered to write, in the future, about any miscarriages of justice...."

"and used social media and other public forums to actively portray the fathers of their children as child abusers."

"...the AFP believe many more “like-minded” people and sympathisers helped the group in its mission to contravene Family Court orders."

"Detectives say the investigation, Operation Noetic, is ongoing and there could be more arrests."

    Correction:
This doesn't appear to be a newsite as in accredited MSM and the progenitor doesn't appear to be an actual journalist.
    http://web.archive.org/web/20181019052922/http://www.deemclachlan.com
Furthermore, it doesn't appear that any stories have been posted after the writer had the alleged discussion with the accused in September if this article is correct. http://web.archive.org/web/20181019...tic-afp-arrests-patrick-odea-and-dr-pridgeon/
But it might illuminate how the alleged child abduction network worked to manipulate others to carry what the AFP are alleging as false accusations.

Doctor accused of masterminding child-stealing syndicate granted bail in Brisbane

"The alleged mastermind of a network that smuggled women and children around Australia will be forced to wear a GPS tracker when he is released on bail."
"Dr Pridgeon is charged with conspiracy to defeat justice and dealing in proceeds of crime. On Friday, police added charges including stalking and child stealing."

"The level of sophistication with this case, especially with encryption communication, is quite high," Commonwealth prosecutor Christine Wilson said.

"Prosecutors said they were willing to accept Dr Pridgeon's release on bail if he agreed to report daily to police, not come to Queensland unless for court matters, hand over his Australian, New Zealand and Zimbabwean passports and stay off social media.
He is also not allowed to contact witnesses or other co-accused."

Charges made over group helping parents abduct own children http://www.dailyliberal.com.au/stor...er-group-helping-parents-abduct-own-children/ via @dailyliberal

    Extracts»
Assistant Commissioner Platz said this type of criminal activity had shown to cause long-lasting impacts for children.

“The actions of these people is not to protect children, what it does is potentially endanger the safety and well-being of these children,” A/C Platz said.

Police believe the group was helped by others who may have provided transport, accommodation and food.

“We know from this investigation that some people in multiple states across Australia have assisted the group without realising they were committing serious criminal offences,” A/C Platz said.
“However, we have been surprised by who has been prepared to risk criminal charges by knowing and willingly providing support to this group across multiple states in Australia.

AFP manager of Crime Operations Commander Justine Gough said police believed the “sophisticated network” used a “cash economy” and encrypted message applications to operate.

I do wonder if this investigation is a spin off of the William Tyrell case?

So this case is people abducting children for money on the premise of child alimony?

No, I think it's mostly hiding children from their fathers and breaching custody arrangements/court orders.

A Townsville mother who allegedly went on the run with her young daughters is the latest to be charged by Australian Federal Police (AFP) officers investigating a syndicate that has allegedly smuggled women and children around the country.

Three women charged late last week had "active roles" in the abduction of three children, the AFP said.

"Police will allege these people provided assistance to the group's organisers in providing transport, accommodation and other support to allow two mothers to evade law enforcement detection," the AFP said in a statement.
