Asia China's growing influence

And if they invade Taiwan, no one in the Western world is going to buy chips manufactured in Taiwan either.

It simply doesn't match the long game China tends to play to take Taiwan by force. China work on plans that take decades, and they'll be acutely aware of the failures Putin has made and support that Ukraine has received.

TSMC makes 55% of the world's semiconductors t's more a case of electronics manufacturing will be crippled for a very long time....

China wouldn't make a move to cripple electronics manufacturing unless they saw a likely positive outcome for them from it IMO.

They know they can't stand toe-to-toe with a US led alliance in an armed conflict, and if the PRC is seen as a bad actor on a global stage it will only force more countries to move manufacturing away from China.

More likely they'll try to capitalise on the Ukraine conflict by offering to rebuild Ukrainian infrastructure post-war, and/or trying to land-grab traditional Chinese land back from the Russians, all whilst installing themselves as Russia's largest trading partner such that they can bully Russia in to supplying cheap commodities and doing China's bidding as required.

Nobody in the western world is going to buy chips manufactured by China.

On top of that , chip manufacturing is not easy or cheap. TSMC and Samsung are really the only players in this space at the highest level. (between these two they manufacture all the cpu/agpu in iphones, androids, xbox, ps3/4/5, Intel, AMD plus everything else you can think of.

To the point where I believe TSMC got a US government grant or something to open a production facility in Arizona, specifically because of the tension with China.

EDIT: TSMC actually already has fabs in China, but I suspect those are for local markets only.

So

No one will buy chips from China,
China takes over Taiwan and chip factories,
People stop buying Taiwanese chips as they are now Chinese chips.

Seems kinda counter productive.

It may be remotely possible that China could take over Taiwan. And if that remote possibility actually happened all the chip factories would be reduced to dust. China would not be selling s**t to anyone.

Only because he want his own vanilla ISIS mob calling the shots.
More from Scomo, and hes on the money with this

If you look around the most vocal China hawks at the moment, Pompeo, Morrison, Truss, all of these people were actually in position to carry out what they're calling for now but bottled it or in Truss' case overall incompetence caused her to be booted before she had the chance. Now they're out there with the big I am in the hope people don't notice that.

What value does Taiwan have to China?

Is that value worth risking being cut-off from Western markets?

The PRC aren't stupid, Xi isn't Putin. They'll play the long-game here and slowly chip away at Taiwanese sovereignty before they bother invading a (relatively) worthless island IMO.
The trouble is that people are expecting Xi to act like someone in their culture. He is a narcisst like many pollies but is even more ruthless, paranoid, has put himself in a position (for now) where he has absolute power but he also knows eventually failure won't be rewarded with a cushy pension like here - he will get disappeared or have a sudden disease like his rivals have been experiencing.

As part of his coronation, he essentially promised Taiwan will be part of China by the end of the five year and the 100th anniversary.

He won't be thinking of reducing the impact on the CCP, he will be working out if the CCP will be hurt less than his rivals.

To mobilise his people and help them ignore his growing list of failures, he makes out that every concern about his psychotic behaviour is an attack on China (helped of course by scummos clumsy wording)

He will assume that any sanctions etc will be short term as he considers his rivals to be weak and easily influenced economically and socially. Hence his efforts to buy into key industries, media, universities, politicians and to claim any concerns expressed are racist (hence the focus on AUKUS and ignoring the Japanese and Indian role in the QUAD) It is not just a coincidence that a lot of Hollywood movies now have Chinese people.as heroes helping to unite people against evil white Industrialists/generals (the reverse of the equally incorrect situation of the past) The CCP has made it clear that if you want to make money tapping their growing movie audiences, you must not contradict their message. Same with Tik Tok, subtle manipulation results in disunity or problems in the west being highlighted but Tik tok campaigns about CCP abuses go no where.

He is also looking at the same strategic decision as Hitler - he has started one of the largest military build-ups in history and has managed to delay his rivals response. So he is working out when his advantage is at its maximum before his rivals Japan, India and the West mobilisation starts to catch up.and eventually over take him.

They’re only doing it now because they’re not in a position of power where China bashing and subsequent loss of trade would affect their re-election chances. Being a speaker on the international circuit along with a bunch of neo-con hawks is as useless as **** on a bull in this situation.

For the future direction I’d look at Olaf Scholtz and his rapprochement towards Beijing in recent months. Wang Yi is in Europe lately and making peace with the Germans, French and Italians, kicking AUKUS to the kerb.

Europeans have done well out of their rapprochements with dictatorships so far...

So you reckon Morrison and the rest of the fools are on the right track? If you look domestically at China you see more road blocks to their international ambitions trying to keep their population in check than any sabre rattling from a bunch of has been politicians could do.

Spy balloons Hahahahaha
America the brave.
Love that Aussies have now become stupid Americans and believe what they see on the newz (my misspell).
Hahahahaha

The yanks couldn’t defeat a bunch of farmers in Afghanistan or Iraq, no surprise despite all the trillions spent on their military they have no idea what their $100 million aircraft destroyed……

The US military is just the end product of weapons manufacturers and their need to have an enemy to make profits.

Nope - I didn't say that. Morrison is probably my least favourite prime minister ever and is a complete idiot who achieved very little either as prime minister or afterwards. Doesn't mean authoritarian dictatorships run by egotistical maniacs aren't dangerous

This is a very simplistic explanation of events and really undersells the problems and how a 'win' would look.

ASPI has an article discussing the background to the PRC balloon programs in some detail.

CCP are laughing, silly yanks should have just set-up death camps and killed/arrested any resistors and their families like they have done to tens of millions in Tibet, Xinyang, Hong Kong etc
