My position is Australia’s position, so take it up with Albo and Penny
Australia’s position is that China is a threat and we’re buying big bloody submarines to counter that threat, so take it up with Albo and Penny

Australia’s position is that China is a threat

Is that the stated position of the current Australian government?:

PRIME MINISTER: I regard the relationship with President Xi as warm and engaging. We have had four bilateral meetings, but have also engaged at other times as well on an informal basis. That's a positive thing. President Xi sent a very warm message of congratulations, as did other leaders after the May 3 election.

Quotes attributable to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese:

“This visit marks another important step in the Australia-China relationship.

“A stable and constructive relationship with China is in Australia’s national interest.

“We will cooperate where we can, disagree where we must and engage in our national interest.

“Strengthening our security and economic interests with our largest trading partner will boost Australian jobs and support Australian businesses.

chinas constant threats to attack Taiwan are not those of a peace loving country, so we must remain on out guard at all times.
Lucky we don't recognise Taiwan as a country.

China's last war was over 45 years ago and they bailed in less than a month. How many has peace loving Australia engaged in?

Which ones?

Korea? I'd call that direct involvement though there was some silliness about a volunteer force.

Well that was all the way back in 1950, and China had a lot of justification to intervene in the conflict.

Korea was fighting a civil war, North vs South, and the U.S. under the guise of the UN intervened on the side of the South. They quickly rolled up the Korean Peninsula and approached the Yalu river, the border with China. Now the Americans were being led by Douglas MacArthur; the “hero” of WW2 who was quite an aggressive leader. He wanted to cross the Yalu, fully invade China and take Beijing well in excess of the UN resolution. Also openly floated the idea of using nuclear weapons against China (the USA being the only country with deployable nukes at that time).

China, seeing a warmongering general talking as such and advancing towards their country made a justified decision to intervene in Korea. They sent troops (which caught the Americans off guard as they arrogantly thought China didn’t have the logistics to transport them) and they attacked the American in the “Second Phase Offensive” in which they ambushed and defeated the advancing U.S. and RoK armies. It was such a rout the “world’s greatest army” was embarrassingly pushed back to the 38th parallel in the longest retreat in U.S. military history, in which you’ve probably never been told of.

MacArthur was later fired by Truman after Douglas publicly criticised Truman for being too ‘weak’ against the Chinese.

That was the last time China was involved in a major war against a near peer adversary. Same for America, as since then all their wars have been mostly against insurgents or bombing third world countries without an air defence. And they’ve still had their asses handed to them several times.

Any conflict in the SCS would be devastating for the entire globe but I don’t think the U.S. has the capability to establish dominance over the area at all.

while america's position and influence in the world depletes, china's is growing

Trump has pulled America out of the WHO, the UNHRC, UNESCO, Paris Agreement, plenty of other UN and international groups. China is just filling the void.

Even if a future Democrat rejoins them (assuming they are allowed to win again) the deeper international community would be very suspicious of any American intents in the future.

Good to see the crayfish crew up and about.

Wonder if the children of current fisherman will be happy after the Chinese eat all our crayfish and there is no fishing grounds left and a bunch of old fisherman telling stories of how much money they made.
Environmental disaster that's happening now and not one government official trying to stop it.
