Did you try to get a ticket for the Port game, barmy? Or weren't you around for that?

Gee- they were pretty loyal, weren't they? To not write off the Cats much earlier ;)

Well, at least now you've got some happy memories of your first visit to AO :) Hopefully when you finally go there for an AFL game, you'll leave with more good memories.

I was over there last week and the locals are raving about AO

malaga 5; utd 1...

utd did score first though! just happened to be an own goal for malaga

still, just a pre-season friendly... and 4 of the goals were at our end.
Own goal? I haven't seen one of them for years!! (Don't watch much soccer but used to play in Kalgoorlie. Thank goodness I never kicked one- that would be so humiliating :oops::oops:)

the first goal at the world cup this year was an own goal... scored by brazil, as well. portent of doom evidently.

it was a header, though. fairly soft ball into the penalty area, and flicked into the corner by one of the defenders. enjoyable game though overall.

what do you mean by the bolded? i thought everyone in WA hated patersons...
I meant that the atmosphere at AO during the game we played against Port was extremely pro-Port and much louder than anything you'd get at Simonds. Very much like the WA crowd over here. (Wish the Geelong crowd could make as much noise!)
The thought is that the crowd noise can influence the umpires on the 50/50 decisions.

The goalie would've felt pretty crap :D
I've always enjoyed watching soccer more when I knew the players playing- haven't seen high-level games for ... 10+ ....years and now know none of the players. Not even the international stars.

right! theyve had two siren issues this year cause of the noise... KP crowds definitely seem pretty restrained every match. last time i was there was against port in '09. it was like being in a cinema.

Maybe it's just the Geelong way...

I went to the Geelong vs Collingwood game last year at the G. and sat with my young nephew and niece. There were empty seats everywhere near us. It was really really quiet. I decided to start stirring up the crowd near me by calling for 50s every time a Cats player took a mark and got a bump ;) My niece and nephew-who are pretty quiet kids- were getting really embarrassed so I eventually stopped, for fear they'd never ask me to go to the footy with them again :(

I quietly amused myself all the way back to the train station, by trying to guess which supporters followed which team. As we were walking (funnily, there was quite a big crowd all going to the station!), it was hard to avoid having contact with people around us. If we got a glare after bumping into someone, I'd mumble "Pies supporter" (my niece and nephew were checking for clues to prove which team the person followed) and, if I got a smile or a nod as I apologised, I'd smile and ask if they were a Cats fan. Couldn't believe it- I got almost all of them right. :) Despite their team's 6 point win, the Pies supporters were all really grumpy ;)
