To be fair to jack in the early rounds (cant remember which one) he hurt his ankle and there was a picture up on social media and it was almost double the size, he played the next week and the rest of the season culminating in Ankle Reco at seasons end, I am sure that along with playing up the field and having poor midfield service didn't help..

You don't know what actually happened though.. I think for Rance to unload like that, it was worse than just old school motivation... Come on, does Rance seem soft to you??

The club as a whole us soft, players play, coaches coach and CEOs CEO , whilst Rance may have had justification ( maybe). It is not his job to publicly take a coach to task.

The tail and the dog comes to mind.

It could have been done behind closed doors, not a three quarter time in a game that he was not involved.

Am I missing something? As a whole I found the interview positive highlighting how we definitely do have some talent while maybe we where indeed overcoached, which yes choco himself played a part in himself. Not sure what's people's issues are

I'm not bashing him and I applaud his honesty, but truth be told he didn't do much to fix the issue himself

If you're going to bash the assistant then you need to look at the head coach first.Personally i didn't think Chocco was being unreasonable and there was some constructive arguments there.

2 points firstly I agree this thread shouldn't be a choco bashing thread as he said nothing wrong or out of line. Secondly However as a development coach you yourself must take some responsibility also.

I cant answer for the due dilligence, but yes, with everything that's come out about him being disruptive then IMO we didn't as we were desperate for 'quality' assistants and said yes the moment he came knocking or we found he was available.

I dont dispute he was a big influence, IIRC he was one of the people dusty mentioned in his ill-advised GWS interview. On the dusty not leaving because Hardwick, i feel like some people lose track of the origins of that argument which IIRC was focused around the fact that Hardwick is the last positive influence of his early days left - Chocco is gone and Garry March is no longer at the club.

As Morro suggested, it was a fairly reserved interview with no negatives or bomb shells, mixed with a bit of constructive feedback and honest assessment of our chances and what was required.
Richmond supporters being Richmond, we have a real issue with anyone providing feedback or comment, especially anyone previously associated with the club (only have to hear the backlash once Wallace says something, anything).
As for Lennon and his opinion on Williams, who cares.
A first round pick who hasn't even come close to fulfilling expectations and what's more, has tried to leave our club two years running because he thinks he's hard done by. I could see why a hardened and steadfast soul like Williams would grate on a guy like Lennon who wants it all handed it to him and forever plays the 'hard done by' card.
I recall Troy Chaplin's farewell reference to Williams ... said he absolutely hated Choco at Port Adelaide, but conceded Chocco 'was right' with all the things he was hard on players with and Chappy was better for it. All class TC.

You're over simplifying things saying they are hated because people have negative comments.

I love lids and the work Chocco did with Dusty and other youngesters was fantastic. But in a terrible and negative year at the club they were not helpful with the fractures between people they were creating, at least from what I've heard.

It's nothing against them as it happens in plenty of sports clubs and work places where people can go from being vital to undermining the process for whatever reason.

I really do wish that lids wins a premiership if we don't.

You don't know the situation so how can you say Rance was out of line? It might be that he was but very easily it could have been Chocco being out of line and Rance as senior player has every right to step in if he believes that's the case.

The thing for me is if he identified that the players were overcoached ( I took this as too many coaches having too much input and not letting the players just play), yet why wasn't this rectified or attempted to do so whilst he was still there.

Seems like a pretty reasonable interview, and mostly positive in my opinion. Saying how the players are responding to the new coaching structure, saying Conca has the potential if he wants it... Have no issue with these comments at all, I like to hear these things.
As for the Rance - Chocco argument. Depends on the player and how everything went down. I know when I was playing badly an old school spray from a coach would fire me up. Being 25, this might be a more old school approach and I know many players I played with that would have gone into their shell from this. You need to know your players and how they respond best to criticism, basic sports psychology. So unless you know the player and situation, wouldn't jump to conclusions

It would have always been this way, trust me. Only difference is now they are more aware of individual needs (different to being too soft) and that different methods will work for different players.

You would have always had players who wouldn't respond to a spray, or went into their shell..its nothing new, just back then they would have been told to suck it up, ignored, called sooks etc etc...

Rance was there watching the game as a spectator albeit he us senior Richmond player, but none the less a spectator, he was out of line, if he was coaching or assisting different kettle of fish.

So was Chocco he was not a VFL coach. If a player needs a dressing down in front of a crowd of people at a VFL game it's McRae's job if its anyones.

If Jobe Watson/Brett Stanton/Dustin Fletcher had stepped in as leader to protect their younger teammates the club wouldn't have been a mess.

How do you know he had a go at Chocco? There are plenty of valid reasons for Rance to step in if he feel's a coach is out of line public.

Why is Chocco absolved for doing something in public and not in private? He maybe a coach but its the head coaches job to rip through players in public, can't think of any assistant coaches rip into players in public. But once again I don't even know what Chocco did so I'm not blaming him either. All i'm saying is you cannot draw conclusions about Rance or Chocco being out of line without knowing the situation.
