Chocco

if this was a couple of years ago, i would say yes. Still a good coach tho.

and i think not.

mostly because he's not the best coach in the game and then there's the fact that Bailey is contracted and we can't afford to pay out Baileys contract and pay for Chocco at the same time

Bailey is doing a good job developing the kids. Things are going to take time, just have patience.

Agreed.

Let the man see out his contract, the last thing we need at the moment is instability when we have such a young list. If at the end of next season we are still in the same position then re-examine the situation then.

I have been involved in discussing Dean Bailey previously. I mentioned that if we won only 1 game this year, that at least a complete coaching review would be required.

While I completely agree that sentiment around the place would suggest that he is doing a good job, a poor season deserves a review. At the end of that review, if he is the best man to lead the club then we should keep the status quo. Simple. If he is not, and there is someone that can do it better, they should be appointed.

While I am accutely aware we are not in a position to 'afford' paying out someone early (DB is contrated next year), I think that it is stupid logic to simply keep someone because they are contracted. The wrong coach (and I am not saying DB is this) could kill our list if we dont improve.

All I would say is: dont let the fact that someone is contracted stop you making an independant decision to bring someone else in. The review should assume in the first instance that DB is not contracted. If he is then the right man for the job on these assumptions, then that is great.

While we're at it, we should delist Addam Maric at the end of the season as well...

If we're going to give Bailey the flick after 1 & a half seasons for not producing, we might as well get rid of Maric because he hasn't become an elite AFL player in the same time..

Why don't we just delist Jack Watts? He's clearly not up to it either..

Strauss & Blease?? Let's delist them too, they haven't even made an appearance in the seniors.

In fact I think we should delist every player under the age of 21 and see if we can extract Daniher from his role at West Coast to come back and coach us..

Been on fire of late Colin... Its good to see people actually fighting off this Richmond type implosion!

Gold Colin.

Lets be patient and give our list time to develop. Next year at round 13 if we are 1-11 then we have grounds to start asking questions but at the minute leave it be. I think Bailey is doing a great job and is developing our list of younger players well.

Its the crap at the other end of the age scale that are letting us down

paying out Bailey would be 250-300k at most

anyone whose name is COLIN has got to be an idiot

I'll re-iterate - seems from the outside that DB is doing a good job down there are Demon land.

BUT - if we lose a mob of games from here and end up being uncompetitive toward the end of the season is it fair to say that a review needs to be undertaken?

No need to make any decision until the end of this year when we have had time to see 2 full seasons of performance.

I just cant (and will never) say that a 1/11 record is good. There are a million resons behind it (i.e. the train wreck as some describe it which DB walked into when he took the job etc) but as a club that is vunrable at the moment, we need to always be monitoring situations which could cause harm. Another 10 losses this season could have potential to harm the club. (Sponsorhip, membership, TV time slots etc).

DB definitely deserves every opportunity to make the MFC a great football team again. I am just sick of people saying "he's contracted so there is nothing we can do if he is not the right person for the job".

So its more of a philosophical argument to say:
1) Melbourne does not simply accept mediocrity
2) Melbourne will always make sure people are accountable and are reviewed in both good times and bad times.

As for the "Richmond-esq" call, I for one would not like to think that we throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Any way - lets hope we win some more games this year and are more competitive in the ones we dont so that this thread becomes irrelevant very soon!! Go Dees!

we are the most patient supporters in the world and if someone goes against that usual conservatism we get slagged off. So l suggest everybody start rejecting crap just once in a while.

Fair point we are patient we put up with +1-1=0 or ND for 10 years and we are in worse shape then when we started.

You get slagged off because it's a ridiculous suggestion, you claim that we are the most patient supporters in the world yet you want Choco to coach after only a year and a half of Bailey who inherited a disaster.

Doesn't that reek of something?

One word: Loyalty

We need to show some faith in our coach & give him time. The last thing we need is the media getting wind of supporters turning on Bailey & next thing we will have Carro, dirt digging Hutchy & co calling for his sacking.

So this is what they say when they use the old "insiders say" quip....

Colin is about as funny as dogshyte between the toes

That's pretty funny actually. I'll take that.. :thumbsu:

With the kind of 'cutting-edge' in-depth analysis of all matters related to football you deliver UP, it just seems a crime you're not employed by, say, Channel 7 to do special comments with Buckley and Matthews.

Its probably because you'd embarrass them with your incisive wit & superior knowledge of the game..
