So you're now trying to reshape the entire competition by saying that minor premierships are as nearly as important as actual premiership. Shall we make up the rules as you go along. You can bet that you would get an argument on this one from 15 clubs and their supporters. Face it mate, your minor round premierships don't mean squat, they just magnify the severity of your choke.

:D

Winning a minor premiership is similar to starting first in the grid for a grand prix race. It just gives you a headstart. Means ********-all, otherwise.

no, what it means is that when all 16 teams were going flat out, over an extended, 6 month period, you were the best of them all.

yeh, its a nice achievement, but sure not as nice as a flag.

when you finish top & then take out the flag 5 weeks later, you'll know what i mean - its been a very satisfying season in that we were undisputably the best team over the ENTIRE season - both minor & major rounds.

next time your team is playing for top spot at the end of the minor round, just remind yourself, your fellow supporters & club members & players that "it doesnt mean anything".

cheers.

It doesn't.

Unless you win the flag, it means f*ck-all.

What it does mean is that it sets a team up nicely to get to a GF via 2 home finals - as was the case with Port in 2004, and could have been the case in 2003 as well.

It's only a means, not an end. As simple as that.

if port manage to take out the 05 premiership, suddenly going "back to back" with the addition of 3 consecutive (hopefully 4) minor premierships included just about puts our efforts over the years on par with brisbanes 3 in a row & any of the "teams of the 90's".

that scenario also allows us to rightly claim that our "back to back" premierships were a greater achievement then yours.

oh, thats right, 97 & 98 you dominated over a 5 week period - what am i talking about?
I think I would need to also factor in the way that the finals series was fought......ie
Paps - 2 years of having seasons set up for them but couldn't convert
Paps - this year 2 home finals then an away GF

v's

AFC - 2 home finals...then an away final - then an away GF
AFC - 1 losing away final....demoralised and on the brink of collapse...then 2 gutsy away finals followed by and away GF.

(just to clarify in 1998 thats R22 in Perth - then Melbourne - Sydney - Melbourne - Melbourne).....not a bad effort

I think these are important factors to be considered.

Ultimately it's difficult to compare eras - and teams from those eras

surely this minor premiership hobby horse of yours is just about dead ???

do you not get the impression that no-one gives a ******** ??

Now you've gone and spoiled that Xmas spirit captain.

Every one knows that the Crows were not the best team in either year, BUT to go top from 4th and 5th respectively and on the road to boot, would make yours (IF you achieve back to back) just two from two. ;) Beat That.
You cant.

Thats all you have to do.

Also, keep in mind that Port have still yet to beat an interstate team on their home soil in a final.

Port have a 4-3 record in home finals
1-0 record in neutral finals &
0-4 record in away finals

Crows...
3-0 in home finals (along with Brisbane, we are the only team never to have lost a home final...mind you, Brisbane are 11-zip at home!)
7-7 in away finals (this is the best away record of any interstate team: Brisbane 5-6, West Coast 8-14-1, Sydney 1-7, Port 1-4, Freo 0-0)

Port have done much better than us during minor rounds, but when it comes to major rounds...heeeheeeee....

Still, winners are grinners and that's what they certainly are at the moment.

No, it doesn't actually - because you didn't play everyone twice. There are eight teams - count 'em, eight - half the league - that you play only once.

Say for example, Geelong and St Kilda had exactly the same draw except that
- Geelong played Port twice (and lost)
- and St Kilda played Port once (and lost) (and Hawthorn once, and won)

and if St Kilda finished one win ahead of Geelong, does that make them "better" than Geelong? 'Course not.

The minor round is a handicapping system for the finals. It is nice to finish on top because it gives you an easier path through the finals (provided you can * cough * win your first home final). It is not a measure that says "you are the best", even in the minor round.

Bloody good point Arrowman. Unless you play each side twice (home-and-away), you can't definitively state that you are the best team during the minor round.

i dont believe it.

obviously you dont play each team twice - but how can you say the team that finishes top at the end of rnd22 aint the best up until that point?

so by your logic, the team that wins the premiership isnt the best team either - because they lucked into the finals by not playing certain teams twice?

the system is flawed but geeez guys....

Yes I'm sure Choco is watching very closely, very closely indeed.

I'm sure you already posted this comment in this thread Koppy? You're starting to repeat yourself mate. It's an afflication commonly found in spineless weasals.

Anyway, Chocco wouldn't have the time to read this board, between all his complaining and writing the follow up to "the night Marcus was given the flag", where would he find the hours.
