...As for Clarko, you only have to watch the clubs he has been with to see his style come through. As soon as he left Ports style changed.
Yeah you've got this rather "interesting" theory that it's the assistant coaches that determine the playing style. Clarkson determined Ports style and now in recent times Damien Hardwick has set Hawthorn's style. That's what you said when you told us that Hardwick would make Port's game style boring. How would you know unless you think that it's his style being implemented by the Hawks?

In fact during 03/ 04 when Clarko was getting acclimatised to AFL coaching under Choco, Ports game style was quite different to what we saw Clarkson implement at Hawthorn.

The problem is Port are the most unprofessional club in the AFL, they have no idea how to act and portray themselves in the big league on a national stage. They are still stuck with the SANFL mentality. The decison the keep Choco reeks of fear to make a tough call.

Its embarrassing for Port and their supporters though.

I dont think we are unprofessional, just unprofessional on this occasion.

I think it is a tough call appointing choco, not appointing him would have been the easy option.

No I said that Hardwick has learnt from Clarko. Which is a style similar to ours, one that is chastised by Tealsters, yet you are so keen to adapt to with Hardwick.

Go back watch some tapes (DVDs) of your team in 2003/04 and then the Grand Finals of Centrals and now Hawthorn. The Cluster is nothing new, the media just have a name for it now.

The way your club has handled this is sickening...ergo ...vomit. Build yourselves up to be professional, well Toots, what went on yesterday ...for nine hours...was about as far from professional as you can get.

The fact that this is gong on at all half way through the year is hilarious...ergo...funny.:D

And all you could respond with here yesterday was a tourism monologue!

The coaching decision took a few hours - not unexpected considering there was a review report that would have needed a fair bit of consideration. You take as long as it takes - no big deal.

Rooch and Shuttleworth mentioned it was quite unprofesional on radio this morning. They suggested Duncanson could have come out and said a decision has been made when Toop left at 5.45. No need to announce it just that it has been made. Rather than have all of Adelaide's media haunting Alberton oval for a snippet for so long. I guess it is one way to ensure bar sales on a Monday night at the Port Club:D........

Oh - boohoo - the media have to wait a while. srsly, who gives a ****?

It's quite professional to not make an announcement in the carpark straight after the meeting, but to inform people (including Choco and the players) before the media and supporters, then hold an appropriate conference today.

I think it also showed scant disregard for the supporters. They knew their fans would be keen to know...and they have basically ignored them....again.

Don't get me wrong...I'm glad if he stays ....more of the same and thats not worrying any opposition at the moment.

supporters are down the rung - Choco himself and the players have a right to know first

I agree with this. Dragging the media along when a decision had already been made is strange, port should be keeping the media onside as much as it can.

per above - **** the media

not unprofessional and far from embarrassing - due process has been followed - a call either way was/is a tough call

lol - as if Choco is not the key decision maker in regard to gamestyle. Yours was chastisted when it resulted in losing finals, just as Port's was in 02/03. The gameplan at every club would be under constant review - you can't leave it as it is for years on end because the game moves on. Regardless of assistants having input - and you'd expect they would (agains at every club) otherwise why have them there - the buck stops with the coach.

It's embarrassing for Crows supporters who are so hypocritical on the subject of coaches and reappointments that they have NO CREDIBILITY.

Following is the Adelaide Crows supporter songsheet as it currently stands....

Port were unprofessional when we didn't reappoint John Cahill in favour of Mark Williams...
But Port are unprofessional when we have reappointed Williams for nother 2 years because we are afraid of making a tough call...

But it's ok when the Crows don't reappoint Cornes less 12 months after making a PF... Or when the Crows push Blighty out the door so soon after dual premierships... Or when the Crows push Ayres out the door so soon after making PF's...

But Port are weak when keeping Williams in 2003 because the hard professional thing to do is to sack the coach who led a team to H&A success but consistently failed to win a premiership (but then won a premiership in 2004)

But Adelaide are strong in keeping Neil Craig because the hard, professional thing to do is to keep the coach who leads his team to 4 straight finals campaigns, despite bombing out in each one of them....

Hey seet pea...I wasn't one of the dozens of journo's who had been waiting for 9 hours...just to have the Head Honcho of your club basically walk straight past in a mood! Would have though if everyone was happy with whatever the decision was,an announcement would have been made. Do't tell me they spent 1 hour on Williams and 8 hour on other shit. Seems to me they have gone home and are trying to work out the best way to spin this...coz not everyone will be happy! No Choco....you would have got bigger crowds for starters.

“At the end of 2006 the club put in place a five year plan and we are half-way through that period. Mark deserves an opportunity to see that plan through.

“We have turned over our list by 50 percent over the last three years, including 12 new arrivals this year.

“At the same time as we are developing our list – and we know there will be ups and downs with that – we are still a very good chance to play finals.

...

Was never at any stage in doubt of being resigned. :thumbsu:
Now we all know that Chocolate had put a 5 year plan into place at the end of 2006.

That is true it should always evolve. The buck does stop with the coach, but he does have inout from his assistants. I am just saying Clarko's input was quite influential.

Under Choco Port has evolved from a tough accountable side that was a genuine premiership contender. To playing fast flowing "entertain me" style. I know you lost a large group of guys capable of playing the former style, yet no active recruitment to replace them.
You have him for another two years, as part of the five year plan to turn Port from a football side into a netball one.

Good luck with that.

Everything is peachy down at crowland... Craigy has been at the helm for over 4 years now & it looks like he's convinced the crows board that his ten year plan will work

According to some we dont have a plan. We are just "mid table midiocrity". Bumbling along each year making the eight yet heading nowhere.

Having a good balance of young players in most areas is just a fluke:rolleyes:.

Is this a quote from Choco or Terry Wallce 3 years ago. As I have said before Port are turning into Richmond (faster than I expected actually)

Crap - Choco has talked 'fast entertaining football' years before the premiership - he says it year in, year out! You're guessing how influential Clarko was - you wouldn't know unless you were in the coaching group. I admit it's likely he was more influential than any of the current group, but you give him too much credit because it makes you feel better.

There has been active recruitment to replace the lost guys - have another look at the current list. Every point you make is based on your twisted brain trying to make everything look as bad as it can for Port.

Any chance of the Hillbillys and Bogans coming to a comprimise?

Nobody gives a shit if you both fold tomorrow.

why don't you just stay out of our threads - your little jibes are more pathetically boring and repetitive than the crows fans'.

Craig is in his 5th year as coach... the clock is ticking .. tick tock ... tick tock!

Of course it is;)
Just read the comments on AdelaideNow.

No doubt some will be from croows supporters who will say they barrack for port.

I would think that given the current situation, you need the media more than they need you. Time to play nice, now.

Most announcements of any importance usually are done as door step interviews straight after the event.

A text "forward to all" for the players and a phone call to Williams....supporters down the rung? Thats just sad really, since they have tolerated so much grief in the last 18 months.

Then come out and say it was a tough call...don't make it sound like it was all sweetness and light in there, coz I'll bet it wasn't. I am sure some board members have not got their own way.

Yes...and has never bottommed out, never called it quits and is building a young squad to take over when the veterans retire. Your point?

Williams is in his 5th year as coach since Craig took over. Is the clock ticking for him too? Or do you have separate standards for him?

Didn't Choco win a premiership in his sixth year?

Nor did NC have a 5 year plan. His first 2 years he was taking an aging list as far as it could. If anything our rejuvination started in 2007 at the earliest I would suggest NC mistakenly went an extra year into 2007 having a final tilt at the flag and it was not unit 2008 that definite changes were made. Ports rebuild is yet to start.

There is no clear transition for the replacement of Cornes X 2, Lade, Brogan, P Burgoyne and Tredrea. Tough times ahead for the power. The tough thing though is Choco only has 2 years to turn things around and replace a third of his best22 and still remain competitive.

History would suggest this cannot be done this quickly particularly with the ruck division and key forward spotsdevoid of any future prospects. D one please do not evenmention Westhoff until you go to the Port board and post in the thread titled "Westhoff is Horrible"

Didn't Choco win a premiership in his sixth year?

he won the "interstate franchise start up flag" with players like

Tredders
Lade
P Burgoyne
Wanganeen
Kingsley
Wilson
Bishop
James

in the intial squad.

We won ours too, and then another, but compare that list with that of the Crows 1991 initial set up and 1997 GF list.

Choco didnt have to develop a sqaud. He added a few players but there was a decent core. He should have won earlier with Francou and Primus playing roles in 2002-03. When, like Geelong now, you were the best Home & Away side.

Neil Craig has achieved this. Choco has shown he cant. Take a few of his Golden Pass boys out and it is 13th bound. Will be very interesting to see if Port can make the finals whilst the likes of Tredders Chad Lade Brogan Thurstans and Peter Burgoyne play lesser roles and/or retire. Even Motlop will be nudging 30 when Choco's next contract is due. He has to be competitive to show the faith his board (and members) put in him. But list wise it is the worst he has had it.

But 9 hours.......come on.

the coaching discussion was not 9hrs - there was other business discussed
