I think they barricaded themelves in there for 8 hours so it looked like that whatever decision they have come too will be "well thought out" and made sure they have "checked all the boxes"....they've probably been watching 5 seasons of Seinfeld DVD's for all we know!

Or 5 seasons off All saints

I swear, if they come out and say that they've put off making the decision til after the season finishes.........I will dead set vomit on the spot.

But I'll bet thats what it is. They'll give Choco the option of looking elsewhere, but will take him back on if he does ok for the rest of the year. This whole saga smacks of desperation.......typical , really. But still funny.:)

taken in the proper and accurate context that is still a correct statement. who wants to live in Siberia or Pittsburgh when compared to California or Provence? other than you, but you're special.

why do people spend the money on Olympics and World Cup bids, its not for the economics its for the profile, the tourism, and the feel good factor of the population. maybe you can find me some iconic australian imagery used to promote the country that uses or refers to mining? idiot....
It's possible to have both a mining industry and the feel good factor of wine and food tourism.

The fact that we've got Olympic Dam somewhere out of sight and hopefully some other big mining projects getting off the ground in the next economic upswing will not hurt our image. Instead the royalties will allow spending on infrastructure including an interesting sports stadium, interesting buildings etc etc .

We're good now but money from the mining industry will make us better and more attractive to tourists. We'll still have the Clare and Barossa valleys and the southern vales, we'll still have Wilpena Pound and all the rest regardless of having the world's biggest open cut mine and other projects besides.

Sadly the wine industry is set for a shake out due to increased overseas competition and over production here. This is contrary to your original assertion some time back that the industry was booming which was contradicted by ABARE analysis at the time.

So is it funny or will you "vomit on the spot" ? Quite incredible really how important this decision is to so many of you non Port people. ;)

I don't think he'll come here...he left Brisbane to play in Vic...

But....

Maybe he will..who knows.

If we can convince buckley his best career path towards becoming a coach at afl level would be as an assistant at Port this would no doubt please the collingwood faithful :D :thumbsu:
So far under the Mark Williams coaching school of excellence we have churned out 2 afl coaches - Al Clarkson (premiership coach) & Dean Bailey

The way your club has handled this is sickening...ergo ...vomit. Build yourselves up to be professional, well Toots, what went on yesterday ...for nine hours...was about as far from professional as you can get.

The fact that this is gong on at all half way through the year is hilarious...ergo...funny.:D

And all you could respond with here yesterday was a tourism monologue!

Doubt to many people will agree that Clarko learnt a hell of a lot from Choco. Some might say it went the other way with Centrals, Port 03/04 and now Hawthorn playing similar style of Footy. Do you really want to take credit for Bailey.

Since Clarko left Choco has preferred a free flowing, non defensive netball style. Compared to the defensive sometimes shut down yet direct style of the Clarko assistant coach era. Remember all premierships are built around a solid defence, Port was no exception.

Bucks will not be an assistant to Choco. It wont happen. I dont really understand the whole idea that Bucks is a "Port person". He played one season to get AFL drafted. He did win everything at Port in that year, but he has hardly been seen at the club since, nor shown any affiliation. He turned down the offer to play there in 1997 as quick as he could. He loves Collingwood.
It could be argued Clarko also used Port as a stepping stone. He was there for two seasons to get a name as an AFL level coach. This was after coaching Centrals to a couple of flags. His time at Port was fruitfull though as he took Hardwick as an assistant and Stuart Dew, whom he had at Centrals and Port and now at Hawthorn.

I thought that the deadline was today, not yesterday. The time spent in meetings yesterday (ie not June 30) - who cares? BTW, you should do a straw poll as to how many coaches have an equivalent clause in their contracts - you might just be surprised.

The "professional" decision would have been to spend 5 minutes sacking him - ala Shaw, Blight, Ayres.

exactly, he doesn't consider himself a 'Port person' any more than he considers himself a 'Brisbane' person. He has only ever considered the traditional Vic clubs as worthy. Port and Brisbane were only ever a means to an end, penance. This, more than anything is why Choco will get re-appointed, because they know they cant get Buckley.

And where is the 2010 FIFA World Cup final gonna be. That’s right Johannesburg. The largest metropolitan economy in the southern hemisphere. And what is the main industry in Joburg? Mining. Idiot.

It’s also a fun place to visit.

though I like your toady obsessive habit with book marking everthing. all the real winners do that. lol

I'd have thought in all the hours you spend quietly squirelled away in your bedroom, bookmarking, and waiting for the day when all this filing will (hopefully) come to your rescue, that you might have noticed that Kingscrow is not exactly from the top drawer.

There’s a really good search tool on Bigfooty … however you require an IQ above room temperature to use it.

Besides that thread is a laugh. It was a SA vs non-SA thread until you chimed in and then everyone, non-SA supporters, Port supporters and even Camry Crows supporters, all bag the shit out of you. Funny stuff indeed.

This has to be the most hypocritical post I've seen on Bay 13.
I couldn't find your response D_One what do you think?

Criticism coming from a hypocritical Camry Crows and opposition supporter is just water of a ducks back.

Poor old cmnopqrstab, got a bit upset at me for pointing out that Chipscab McLeod is over the hill … but somehow he never has a go at fellow Camry Crows supporters who denigrate non- Camry Crows players. It smells hypocritical, it looks hypocritical, and it tastes hypocritical, it is, it is hypocritical.

However criticism from a fellow Port supporter would be noted and actioned. Cue KingsCrow

+ no one likes you Crow Mo. Your like leyton Hewitt. Just give up on life. You have no friends and your an embarrassment to your state and your country.

Top Draw stuff that.

Problem is, if someone spent 9 hours deciding on whether or not I kept my job, I think 'd feel just a tad insecure. It obviously is not a unanimous decision, wichever way they go...not exactly a vote of confidence.....a review was conucted, but made no recommedations...why do it then? No-one sacked Blight. Shaw, goodbye and good riddance, as for Ayres, there was already a succession plan in place....Craig was always going to get the job. I'm wondering how many phone calls were made in the last week to see if there actually were any other candidates actually wanting Choco's job.

As for the June 30 clause....whats the point of that anyway? Club not happy they can always sack the coach. Only person to benefit from all of this is Choco...not the club, not the management being forced to make a decision half way through and not the players who were in limbo for about a month. I don't care who has that clause, I think it's stupid.

So because you were keen to know the outcome and you didn't get it soon enough that makes the club unprofessional. The decision, if reports are correct, was made by late afternoon. The board then discussed other issues which you would think were also related to the coaching position and the football department.

What's it matter to you when the decision is made? Choco's contract specifies he gets told mid year what his future is. It's been done this way throughout his tenure and this manner of doing it was agreed by Choco and the club. Think about sister, coaching speculation will not be something haunting our club for the rest of the season.

Your third comment regarding my post about tourism shows that you are unaware of some of the subplots unfolding on Bay 13. ;)

You're a low functioning "contributor" to this board, IMO, and your quoted post is an example.

Hey seet pea...I wasn't one of the dozens of journo's who had been waiting for 9 hours...just to have the Head Honcho of your club basically walk straight past in a mood! Would have though if everyone was happy with whatever the decision was,an announcement would have been made. Do't tell me they spent 1 hour on Williams and 8 hour on other shit. Seems to me they have gone home and are trying to work out the best way to spin this...coz not everyone will be happy! No Choco....you would have got bigger crowds for starters.

Rooch and Shuttleworth mentioned it was quite unprofesional on radio this morning. They suggested Duncanson could have come out and said a decision has been made when Toop left at 5.45. No need to announce it just that it has been made. Rather than have all of Adelaide's media haunting Alberton oval for a snippet for so long. I guess it is one way to ensure bar sales on a Monday night at the Port Club:D........

Surely even you know that Buckley was all set to join Port when we entered the afl in 1997. He even said that it was going to be great going back to his old club. Word got around that he was going to move... Eddie panicked & a mega deal was quickly put into place including sponsorship with crown casino.. if you can look back at the footage on the footy show Bucks resigned a contract with collingwood on the show but before he did he put on a crown casino hat. The thing is he wanted desperately to play in a premiership side & if he would have stayed at the Lions he could have had 4 premierships medallions around his neck.

Bailey is going ok considering the list he has to work with. He has turned over quite a few players since arriving at Melbourne & is getting game time in the players he sees taking their club forward. They have been more than competitive in quite a few of their games this year with maybe just that touch of class & decision making being the reason they haven't won more games. Remember Bailey hasn't taken over a list anywhere near as good as what Clarkson inherited.

Big Al.. sure he knew quite a bit about coaching before he joined Port but he has gone on the record as saying that before he was given the job as head coach of hawthorn that he had taken what he learned at port & implemented it into hawthorns game plan along with what he could learn from other sports.

I think it also showed scant disregard for the supporters. They knew their fans would be keen to know...and they have basically ignored them....again.

Don't get me wrong...I'm glad if he stays ....more of the same and thats not worrying any opposition at the moment.

I agree with this. Dragging the media along when a decision had already been made is strange, port should be keeping the media onside as much as it can.

Excellent News.

Not for 50% of your supporter/membership base (and most of the Port Board on BF).

Watch the memberships drop off now. Port need a complete refresh of thinking.

Successful sporting clubs / organisations make the tough calls when they need to (just ask Chris McDermott, Tony McGuinness an Andrew Jarman) even when unpopular at the time.

Good on the Port board for alienating even more of their supporters and ensuring the gold pass system lives on:thumbsu:

The problem is Port are the most unprofessional club in the AFL, they have no idea how to act and portray themselves in the big league on a national stage. They are still stuck with the SANFL mentality. The decison the keep Choco reeks of fear to make a tough call.

Its embarrassing for Port and their supporters though.

All I know is that Buckley came to our footy club on a Pie and Pasty night and was asked by President where he will be in five years time. He said he would be at Collingwood winning Premierships.

By the Way Eddie was President of Collingwood from 1998 onwards. Not sure what he had to do with keeping Bucks at Collingwood. Dont you remember the bet that your club had with the former president (name slips my memory at the moment, McCallister??) about getting the black and white back if you ever finish on top of them in the ladder. Which Eddie promptly said is void after taking on the role.

As for Clarko, you only have to watch the clubs he has been with to see his style come through. As soon as he left Ports style changed.
