Proud of the boys - i thought the effort was fantastic. Some Dogs fans need some perspective. Remember that there's 2 teams out there - at times the saints forced us to play a certain way

Supporters like you make me want to spew. The opponents did not make us mark inside 50 and then pass it backwards or turn it over. Nor did they make us mark on 50 and not make the distance. The only opponents were in their head and they failed to beat them miserably.

Is it just me or it seems that when we have teams on the ropes, we just can't put them away. It happened against Brisbane and it happened against St. Kilda tonight.

I said to the old man halfway through the third quarter that we were a goal away from really taking control of the game, but we just couldn't take the opportunities.

WTF was Eade thinking? Our gameplan tonight was absolute rubbish. I wouldn't blame the players for that. Gilbee and Harbrow were outstanding. I cannot see the logic of attempting to maintain possesion, waiting until we turn it over, in favour of quick ball movement into a forward line which has players capable of taking a grab. Atleast they would have a chance of scoring if the ball was in the bloody forward 50. Stupid stupid fools deserve to lose that one, and im blaming the coach.

I agree with you Godzilla regarding the coach's game plan however I do believe that the players are responsible as well. A little of this has got to do with the culture of 'close enough is good enough' for the team. The Saints showed us yet again what they're about... That is, a hard running, hard tackling, never say die attitude that will probably win them a flag and deservedly so. They take players in and change them... Look what they have done with Farren Ray??? He is far more competitive and harder than what he was with us...

There are too many weak links in our team.. Whether they are weak with their skill errors, or their ability to function under pressure, or their mental toughness .... They are weak. Unfortunately, the introduction of Bazza has actually created a little bit of complacency with a few of our forwards.... Has Aka kicked any goals this year? Has Murphy had a consistent game? Has Johnno added value since his return? Did Eagleton even play? Did Gia make the right choice with the attempted pass to Johnno over the player on the mark? And that's just the forward line.... Let's not even discuss the middle.....

The more I think about it, the more I get depressed. I really don't think that this team will win a flag in the next two years.... I know the season is long and perhaps our physical conditioning is such that we may benefit in the 2nd half of the season, but I just don't think that we can overcome our many physical and mental deficiencies. I remember Rocket saying when he first took over that, one thing he wanted to achieve was to get our players to believe in themselves and overcome the mental demons that seemed to plague their psyche and effect their confidence and concentration.

Unfortunately, judging by the performances we have had this year against the Pies, Lions and Saints, I don't think that this has happened or ever will.....:(

Gia missing a crucial last quarter chance in a tight, low scoring contest against St Kilda. Sound familier anyone?

The thing is, it shouldn't have even been a tight, low scoring contest. We dominated so much and St Kilda didn't know what to do with the ball when they got it and we still managed to lose the unloseable.
I was actually upset that we weren't going to win by more than 3-4 goals and to lose was just unfathomable.

My membership is toast http://img192.imageshack.us/i/img0279tu.jpg/
i don't think I can bring myself to go to another game after that embarrassment.

was Gia to blame for the bullies kicking 2.7 in the first quarter? I think not.

Gia bashers should F off right now. He contributed enough tonight. 29 touches and 10 tackles. He was far from being our worst player. Blame Hall if you like, for giving away a STUPID free kick and costing us a certain goal. Blame Griff for not getting a touch in the last quarter. Blame Eagleton. Blame Eade most of all. Stupid game plan.

Yep, gotta agree with the general consensus: same sh*t, different year! The life time of mediocrity continues.

I blame four, Gia for not having a shot from 30 out would have sealed the game, Williams for constantly turning it over and Cross because he has no skills and cost us when it matters.

Oh by the way coaching staff we really needed Boyd tonight! you idiots!

No point playing someone if they are unfit to play. If Boyd played tonight with a broken hand then his skills would have been worse than Cross' apparently bad skills.

I think Gia killed us (SAINTS fan) in that 1st half big time, dont understand how we over ran you guys when thats meant to be your forte. Only just back in the side but the playing legend of your club is looking far far too slow for the game IMO

I am so dissapointed, I could many things regarding the players specially those that went missing in the final quarter but I think the real culpable for tonigh is the coach.

How can Eade let a game like this go, why didn't we go long to our tall targets?

All other teams kick long when the games get difficult but Eade had our players spotting targets in a flodded forward line. How many times in the past we have lost games due to a last contested mark to the opposition?

Why didn't we kick from fifty?

We will never are going to win or even to get to a final if we don't play to win the games until the final siren and stop and rest/celebrate before the game is won.

Eade needs to have a good look at the way he is coaching our guys and the pressure he puts on them to finish the games strongly.

Although there's always a problem with out team sometimes we start to slow and get too far behind in the first quarter, other times we get tired to soon and get run over in the third or fourth quarter, I can't remember the last time I saw a game when the team had a strong four quarter win.

Frustration, dissapointment, sadness and fury are mixed feeling us Bulldogs supported are too used to suffer and unfortunately we are going through it again. Not to mention the sense embarrassment we experience everytime we get proven to be not good enough.

Once again all those expectations goes down the drain and it will be another year of almost but not quite.

I ask myself, was it the right thing to become a bulldog supporter many years ago? Will ge ever see in our lifetimes our team win another flag, at times like this I lose all hope.

Now I'll have a drink and I'll continue wandering offline about the meaning of life as a bulldog supporter.

Excellent post on so many levels.

We actually kicked 2.2 in the first term. However, your point is valid - lessons haven't been learnt properly.

That handball of his which led to the first of St Kilda's final term goals was horrible.

When you aim to play on at every opportunity, there's a fine line between butchering the ball and playing like a well-drilled unit.

Some of the hand-balling tonight reminded me a lot of Adelaide. We're obviously not 0-5 or playing as near as badly as they are, but I think that if the brand of footy we play is going to stand up in September, errors like that really need to be addressed.

I can't ever remember being so disappointed/frustrated/angry/upset after a match as I was tonight.

We did choke. If I was more optimistic, I would kid myself by saying the players will be hurting and they will learn from this, but I'm sure they won't.

There was that famous match in 2007 when Geelong lost to the Kangas and they drew a line in the sand and the rest is history.

Our side needs to do a similar thing right now.

It's time for them to wake from the slumber, end the crap, and realise that they are actually a very good football side, and if they don't seize the moment this year, they may never get another opportunity.

Was thinking the same thing. Quality post :thumbsu:

I tend to disagree. Our main problem tonight was that we tried to copy another team. What we needed to do was back our own style of play. The Bulldogs aren't St Kilda and shouldn't attempt to dish up the same shit that they do. We don't need to copy St Kilda, or Geelong, or any other team in the comp. We are good enough already, if we back ourselves and play how we can and should play.

Gee i sure did miss Boyd out there tonite. Could've, would've, should've. but we didnt so lets move on. im dissapointed as the rest of u but we need to move forward, we cant change the past. It felt like last years prelim all over again, havin my heart ripped out. but tomorrow is another day

Oh, dear, the usual BF manic-depressive syndrome.

If Fisher had missed that last shot at goal this board would be full of how we're on terms with the Saints, we're on our way to the GF etc etc.

But instead it went through the middle and so: "we choked", BF posters are burning their membership cards, it's the end of civilisation as we know it, etc etc

Get a grip folks!
Yes it was a very disappointing loss but we didn't choke. (Unless you mean by choking that we lost a close game against a good side - that's not my definition of choking.)

Don't forget last year everyone (players included) were celebrating how we were regularly winning such games "as good sides do" and coming from behind etc. They said how it showed maturity, character and self-belief. Has everyone forgotten how upbeat they were after the NAB Cup win?

We haven't lost all those attributes in one night.

I like the "line in the sand" proposition, mentioned earlier. The team should put this game behind them and come out with some steely resolve that propels them through the rest of the season like Geelong did in 2007.

We now have the big forward but never kick to him quickly enough that he is in a one on one contest, instead we wait and wait and wait.

For the 2nd half their was always 2 players on Hall. Where was our player?

Our players did not choke, they outplayed the opposition but the opposition coach out coached Eade. Simple.

When we meet this team again we will win comfortably, comfortably because Eade would have learnt loads.

Straight up I ****ing hated that game. One of the worst losses in a long time. Never felt that angry at a game before other than the 97 prelim. ****KKKKKKKKKKKK

There really wan't much you guys could do to score with the way the saints were flooding/zoning. Hall needs the ball out on the lead and not in contested pack situations, unfortunately the saints just clogged up the forward 50.

Dal really got away from cross in that last qtr.

Anyway, at least your losses have been against the top sides in the comp. Still Picken,Boyd and Ward to come in aswell.
